3 bedroom charming cottage centrally located, 12 minutes from downtown KC, 5-6 minutes from Country Club Plaza. Mixed quaint neighborhood with shops, homes and businesses most of which are within walking distances in nice weather. Brookside, just 4 minutes away, is an old fashioned English Tudor style neighborhood of small boutiques and restaurants. Waldeaux Cottage is decorated in Country French decor with two queen beds and a set of twin beds. Healthy, gourmet organic meals can be provided by prior arrangement. Spa/salon services can be arranged for couples or girls getaways or bridal attendants in the separately locked off & separate entrance to an intimate salon. Salon is located in the lower level of the home and is by appointment only. Spa packages with discounts for multiple services can be arranged. (Presentations Salon & Rx Day Spa) I offer workshops on how to make your own basic skin care from the kitchen and the garden. If you book a stay at any of my properties, and send in a $25.00 membership in to Slow Food, I will give you $25.00 of Spa services/products of my choice. Slow Food is an international organization that promotes local food sources and teaches nutrition to underprivileged children in inner city as well as other non-political nutritional pursuits. The Waldo/Brookside area is within a block by foot. Coffee shop, restaurants, doggie day care 1/2 block away for visiting well-behaved dogs ( by prior arrangement). Country Club Plaza is 4-6 minutes north of this Waldo location. This is such a centrally located home and is good for the more budget minded guest.
Even though I have an intimate salon and spa downstairs and has its own entrance, I only work part time by appointment only . On the other hand, for girls's getaways and couples who want to have spa services for a day of maintenance pampering, the house can be opened up for easy flow. I also do drop off catering of organic and locally sourced food. I am a board member of Slow Food and try to promote local dining and farmer's markets nearby.
It is a quirky neighborhood with charming English Tudor cottages nearby and small independent businesses that provide mom and pop services . Shopping is both efficient and fun. Weekends you will see baby strollers, walkers and joggers.
There is bus service 1/2 block away. I can also recommend a drivers service if you are interested for airport pickup.
The Waldeaux Cottage is a 50's style ranch home and is sandwiched between little businesses and duplexes. Predominantly surrounded by residential bungalows is is a nice place to walk. The English Tudor homes are predominant in this Waldo/Brookside area. People who live here in these neighborhoods are supportive of the local businesses and look out for each other.
I hosted a small get together for my friend's bridal shower. Kathleen was a great hostess and the house was perfect for our group of five ladies. It was just down the street from lots of stuff. We had a great dinner at Aixous and grabbed coffee from the Roasterie the next morning.
Kathy was a very kind and gracious host and even made us soup during our stay. She was easy to communicate with and very responsive to our issues (the water wasn't hot enough and she had it fixed within a day, we thought we left something and she offered to send it to us etc.). That said, this house is quirky and folks should know a few things before renting: 1) All of the windows are painted/nailed shut. You can open the front door for air but at night that's not really an option. 2) There are some pretty strong perfumes from the salon downstairs if you have a sensitive nose 3) The stove is very old and most people opt not to use it. Kathy has provided A LOT of electric appliances you can cook with instead.
The cottage was PERFECT. We had 2 adult couples and 2 children and each room fit our needs perfectly. Fully furnished kitchen with an antique oven/stove, bath towels, cable t.v., you name it! Also, a brief walk to nearby gas & convenience.
We were staying in KC for Christmas week, so it was an ideal place to set up for our home base. We spent most of our days with family, but it was wonderful to be able to come "home" to the cottage. Our only big disappointment was that we didn't have time to take advantage of any of the spa offerings that are part of the Spa, attached to the cottage and in the basement. They looked great!
We would definitely stay here again and have already been making plans!
