Welcome to city São Paulo
I stayed in Andre's flat together with my girlfriend for 1 month. The price for 1 month was very reasonable for Sao Paulo and the location seemed nice, right in the center. On trips before, I have been staying in 3 other apartments in Sao Paulo so I can actually compare Andre's flat to the Sao Paulo reality.
Andre's flat is quiet small, it seems bigger on the photos. The bed nearly takes all the space, there is a wardrobe, a table, two chairs, a TV, a Freezer, Kitchen and Bathroom. The kitchen has no proper cooking space, there is only a microwave! The bathroom is dark and gets quiet humid, difficult to clean up, the shower worked fine all the time. You have no air condition but there is a Ventilator at the ceiling that works fine.
When arriving, the apartment was not very clean, something that also happened in other flats. The floor was dirty and had to be cleaned by us! Cockroaches appeared every 2-3 days even if you use the Spray to fight them, the whole building is infected. Do not leave food around unless you want them to appear daily!
The sheets did not seem to be washed, the blanket definitely was not and smelled badly. We had to wash everything ourselves! Fortunately the doorkeeper are very nice and let us wash everything, normally you are not allowed to wash blankets and can only wash once per week. Of course, if you not speak Portuguese it will get very difficult to talk to them.
The biggest problem though turned out to be the street the house is located on: This is the Main Gay Zone in all over Sao Paulo! Parties start Thursday at night and will get on until Sunday at night, always until 2-3 am at least! In general, the street is very noisy on every day of the week, being the center. The area itself is very dangerous, after dark it is risky to wander around the streets, especially the nearby República Square and smaller streets. There are hookers, dealers and lots of homeless people. You will see a lot of travesty, gay and lesbian. We were not robbed but a lot of strange people approached us, if you are not gay it gets quiet uncomfortable. Everyone knows about this street in Sao Paulo being the gay street and being dangerous, you just ask around and they'll tell you. During the day the street seems normal, some businesses and offices are located nearby but at night it turns into something completely different.
If you have any business to attend nearby and stay just a couple of days I guess its an affordable choice. Otherwise, if you stay for a longer time and want to stay safe and quiet at night I recommend you to choose at another place, there are just too many downsides.
Apartamento realmente muito charmoso e acolhedor!
