About this listing
The much loved hostel Lao (currently a top rated speciality lodging on Trip Advisor and top rated Mendoza hostel) brings a stlyish and luminous ensuite double, Tango, to the Airbnb community. The room is a large comfortable well decorated space with ensuite bathroom and airconditioning. Sheets towels and a varied buffet breakfast are included and complete use of our home/hostel.
We treat our hostel like a home and ask you to do the same. It is our escape from the rat race. A home from home where you can relax and meet travelers. A comfortable base from which to explore one of the worlds great wine capitals.
Please note this listing was formally used for several individual rooms, but now is only for 1 room, Tango. If this room is not available we may offer you an alternative, but we never hold a different room without first asking guests.
When you stay with us you can access your room and you have complete use of the house as if it were your own. Including a fully equiped kitchen, two living rooms one of which has cable TV, free internet, wifi, garden, hammocks, plunge pool(in summer!) and a traditional Argentine Asado pit.
Interaction with Guests
Celeste and I work in the hostel but are not always there! Our reception, weekdays open (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) then (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), weekends 24 hours; is always staffed by great, knowledgable people who will be more than happy to help or just chat.
The house is located in a busy western section of the city centre. Just two blocks east from us is main commercial street, San Martin, filled with great shopping. A little further (15 minute walk from hostel) and you reach the main café lined Pedestrian Street and central plaza, Independencia, complete with artisanal market. To the east, ten minutes walk, is the main bus station. Our area is special because is just beyond the main tourist fare of the 5 star hotels and big party hostels that dominate Mendoza. We are surrounded by great local shopping, from wine to vegetables, meat to fresh breads, cold cuts and pies, antiques from the week day antique market just 2 minutes away to local cheeses and ice cream. You will find a huge range of cool and fresh local produce, at local prices, just outside your new home. We are also within a short walk of the main bar strip and even closer we will direct you to a host of great local restaurants and bars. Just ask and we will show you the way.
10 minutes (walking) east from your front door is the bus station where all long distance bus arrive and depart from. 25minutes north in a taxi is the airport. Across the street buses leave to Maipu and 1 block away to Lujan (main wine districts). So getting to know the city by foot and avoiding costly transport fees from tour companies in favour of local transport couldn't be easier!
Other Things to Note
Reception closes between 2pm-5pm for siesta weekdays. We are open at all other times. If you arrive during siesta please let us know so we can arrange for someone to meet you. Keys can be provided so all guests can come and go as they please.
There are two rescue dogs on the premises at all times.
Enjoy our home like your own but please take care of it as you would your own. We ask that you do not feed the dogs and that you do not smoke inside the house or the rooms. You are more than welcome to smoke in the garden. Guests are only allowed inside the hostel with approval from reception.
