The Space

The flat is situated only 300ft from the beach and not even 5 minutes walking from the Monterosso train station.
It's organized with:
1 king size bedroom
1 double bedroom
Also the living room has a pull out couch if needed. (only upon request)
The location is really good, there are plenty of restaurants (Miky's one of the best in Monterosso), bar or pizza places.
Anyway if you're not planning to eat out the only supermaket in this part of Monterosso is right out the building entrance , which makes it really easy.

The apartment is unique as we're in the 5 terre, Monterosso to me is the best out of the five, not too small and really neat with a great view.

  • Great apartment in a great location. Fantastic as a base to explore the cinque Terre.

  • Great apartment, close the train station and the beach! Location was great for getting around. The apartment had everything we needed, lost of space, and a really good shower. It was always easy to get ahold of Leopoldo, great host!

  • Host was not particularly communicative prior to our visit - did what was required only. Never met him. Met his mother.

Place was more run down than appeared on the listing - for example, there was a sheet covering a worn sofa. Also, we did not realize that people were actually living there and had locked closets and storage areas upon vacating for our stay. There was minimal storage space for our clothing. The bathroom ceiling had a leak. Leopoldo responded to our notifying him about this but could not fix it until we were gone. I thought he knew about this before we arrived and should have had it fixed.

Neighborhood convenient as described but noisy due to trains running all night. We did not realize that.

Toiletries and breakfast offerings were very limited. This was a surprise and not very welcoming.

We did not find any literature about the town and area.

It was expensive and even though the town is an expensive tourist area, I do not think it was a good value.

    Response from Leopoldo:

    Dear Stan,
first of all I would like to remind you this is not an hotel or anything close so the breakfast is not something I have to offer but a plus, same with the welcoming part which could have definitely been more exhaustive but could have also been less than this one. My mom waited in the place for a while and we never let guest waiting outside.
I did respond to all the mail and it's not written anywhere that I'm the one who has to welcome my guest, especially when is the real owner of the place that welcomes you despite speaking no english.
Of course we live at the place during summer and since it's our vacation house we have a locked closet.
The leak has been repaired 2 days after you've left and no, we didn't know about it until my mom came to clean the house up the same morning you came to check in.
Finally about the price, an average 3 star hotel with a double bed and bathroom cost about 50% more than my apartment, which is one of the cheapest on airbnb in the 5 terre, so I don't think there's anything wrong about the pricing.

I'm definitely going to put down some more information and get a better sofa's cover,
    thanks for staying

  • This is a lovely apartment, in a great location, perfect as a base for touring the area. While we didn't meet Leopoldo, we did meet his mother who showed us where to find everything and how things worked. The apartment is 2 mins walk from the beach, and the train station with a small grocery shop on the ground floor which stocked all the basics. It was ideal for our stay.

  • Leopoldo and his family were very accommodating, the apartment looks like the pics, if not better. There is a grocery downstairs and very close to beach as it said, This house is quite big for cinque terre standards, suitable for those who want to be 1/ close to transport (ie. train), 2/ don't wanna go thru steep hills and stairs with a 20kg luggage (it's on main road and w a lift), 3/ group of 3-5 (with kids included). If you are a light sleeper you may notice the trains when they pass by but if u are from a city like NYC or Hong Kong u will be fine. :).
Wifi does disconnect occasionally but by replugging the thing it will work again at once, don't worry.
Note: Remember to confirm contact number/person and the name of the flat (Italians use their surname to identify flats, not numbers).

  • Great location and great host!

  • My husband and son and I stayed at Leopoldo's place for four days, a few weeks ago. His place was pretty clean, quite large, and the location couldn't have been better… we were just a few blocks from the beach in the new town part of Monterosso. There were about 2 flights of stairs up to the unit, but there is a small elevator you can take up and down with your luggage. Make sure you read the directions instructions for when you arrive, we didn't and didn't know which apartment bell to buzz when we arrived.

We loved the sweet child's bedroom which our son stayed in. The washing machine was very convent and the kitchen was stocked (email hidden) essentials and some snacks. We were very happy with Leopoldo's apartment and will recommend it to our family and friends who visit Cinque Terre.

  • Great location! Clean and spacious apartment!

  • We did not get to meet Leopoldo however communication with him both prior and during our stay at his apartment in Monterosso was excellent. We were met on our arrival by his aunt Mariangela who "walked" us through the apartment. A few little nuances around the power and hot water but all was fine. We are a family of four with children aged 10 & 8 so the unit was most suitable for us. Would not recommend for four adults as the beds for the children are small. Safe and secure and conveniently located to the station and beach. The only downside was the proximity to the railway line which proved to be an initial distraction but didn't worry us too much during our stay. The apartment is not in the main area of Monterosso which we felt was a benefit as it was nice and quiet and a lot more convenient as far as getting from the station with luggage. We certainly enjoyed our time in Leopoldo's apartment and can recommend it for small family with plenty of room for four persons. Clean and tidy it was like staying at someone's holiday house. • Location, location, location!
Absolutely perfect location - close to beach, great restaurants, and the market downstairs was very convenient.
The apartment was clean, the rooms were good sized, and we agree with the comments below from Peter. Overall a very good experience and we would definitely return.

Hi, I'm an italian guy who love to see new places and discover the world. I've been in lots of places for my young age but I still haven't seen the far east and the Oceania continent, which is where I'll head soon. I enjoy traveling mostly during summer so I don't have to bring lots of stuff and I don't have to worry about the weather. Everytime I speak to somebody on my trips I try to speak the local language and I'm always keen to understand something new, a language too.
