The Space

A private home lodging located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a spectacular post card ocean/ jungle view.
We have 2 rooms with shared baths and 6 rooms with private baths. . A short walk to the beach and the National Park. We are not a hotel so if you enjoy staying in a home this is the right place.

A full kitchen is available for your use but breakfast is service in the main house. A large deck overlooking the ocean and tropical rainforest is a wonderful way to see wildlife or just relax with a cold drink and good book.

We also now have three new rooms with private baths and A/C. Each has a double bed and a single bed, sitting area and of course a shower with hot water and some of the best views in Manuel Antonio.

Manuel Antonio and the National Park is internationally known for its breathtaking beauty and abundance of wildlife. Without even moving from our deck you can see monkeys (3 kinds), sloths, coatis, tucans and lots more in their natural environment. Our garden has many species of tropcial plants including heliconias, cinnamon, allspice, papaya, bananas, pineapples and orchids. We are a 10 min walk to the beach. Everything you need can be found within walking distance. A small supermarket, banks, gift shops and some of the best restaurants in the area are a short distance away. Looking directly at the National Park we have one of the best views in Manuel Antonio. Our very small friendly bi-lingual staff with many years of living in Costa Rica, can make any tour reservations for you. If you would like to go sailing, river rafting, parasailing, horseback riding, kayak through the mangrove, or swing through the canopy we can arrange it for you.
All our guests may use the deck and livingroom/kitchen area of the teak house. The view is spectacular and there is a hammock and lots of deck chairs to sit and watch the monkeys passing though the trees.
I would not recommend it for anyone that is not physically active. There are a number of stairs.

I will only receive guests after 6 pm by direct request, so ask first if you plan on arriving at night.

  • Super séjour, bel accueil, déjeuner bon avec une superbe vu! Lieu magnifique. Grande chambre avec air climatisée, près du parc Manuel Antonio, parking accessible. Anita est géniale!

  • Location was good and a 5 min walk to bus station that takes you to Quepos or Manuel Antonio beach. Room was clean and beds made on a daily basis. The comunal areas (living room, kitchen and terrace) however were filthy and the kitchen equipment old and rusty. Anita's place has potential however in need of some general maintenance works.

  • We loved our stay at Casa Buena Vista! We were there 4 nights. The area is a bit touristy but the people are genuine and there is great food and fun to be had (favorite spots - Cafe Milagro and Pizza Pata!) Anita was wonderful and inviting. She gave advice on things to do in the area, including the Canopy/Zip line tour which was fantastic - I can't recommend it enough! We got a room with AC (#6) which is great if you're there in warmer/more humid times (we were there in May). We would definitely return! The breakfast was also wonderful, really substantial and a great time to chat with everyone as (website hidden) to all and we hope to be back someday!

    Response from Anita:

This person was only in my place for two nights and never said anything about not liking anything at all. Most people love our breakfast and we certainly don't force anyone to eat with us. There are various cafes up the road if anyone doesn't like ours. Yes, our place is rustic and we don't have new furniture but we don't charge $200 and up like all the other hotels on our street and the monkeys and wildlife that people come here to see don't seem to mind it at all.

  • We were incredibly pleased with our stay at Casa Buena Vista! The Casa is CLOSE TO NATURE and we loved it. Bats, howler monkeys and humming birds are a common sight from the patio and there were plenty of other critters close by to see. Next door was a dog who adopted a raccoon baby, on her own! The owner Anita is very nice and helpful, every place she said we might be interested in proved to be very fun for my husband and I! Also everyone knows her, she's an institution in the area. She serves a wonderful casual breakfast with fruit and eggs (I also lucked into French toast one day!) where she will chat with the guests about their plans for the day and provide tips about off-the-beaten-path places to go. I wish I had been able to spend more time with her, but I got a bad cold and skipped the breakfast for the last half of my trip so I didn't spread my germs to the other guests. Anita can also help you arrange any tours very easy, she set up a sunset sailing tour for us in 2 minutes! The room was clean and comfortable, the AC worked very well, and there is a great patio area called the Teak House where there are a couple of rooms as well as the communal kitchen, but it was best for meeting the other guests and doing some serious monkey-watching. I highly recommend staying here, Anita has been there since the 70's and it has a charm about the place that some of the newer hotels don't. I love the cute colony of bats she has and you can see them very close! Many people walk to the beach nearby, although my husband and I found it better to drive there. We're from flat Florida and everyone else seemed to be quite used to 35 degree climbs! The beach is amazing, catch the sunset and watch the surfers. Thank you Anita for the wonderful vacation, your casa made it extra special for us. This was our first experience with Air BnB and we are very happy with it!

  • I spent a week at Casa Buena Vista in room 6, and it was wonderful. The room had AC, was clean, spacious, had a large shower with hot water, and an additional sink and sitting area by the large sliding glass doors. Clean sheets and towels were provided whenever requested. The housekeeper, Nuria, made up the room each morning and did a great job. Breakfast was provided every morning, which was one of my favorite times to talk with Anita and the other guests and enjoy the beautiful view. Eggs, toast, fresh fruit, juice, homemade jam, coffee, tea, and sweet breads were provided. Anita (email hidden) and I loved talking with her. She was kind enough to offer me a ride from the supermarket one night, and she booked an amazing horseback riding excursion for me. The B&B is located a ten minute walk from the beautiful beach. It is a steep downhill walk, but an inexpensive bus ride brings you back. Manuel Antonio is breathtaking, but everything is elevated from the beach. Be prepared to do uphill walking and climb stairs, or pay a little extra for taxi or bus fare. I thought the views offered by the elevation made it very worthwhile. I would highly recommend Casa Buena Vista, and hope to return to Manuel Antonio.

  • Anita was very accommodating and the place was very clean. It has a spectacular view and lots of local wildlife on the property.

  • A lovely host, a clean and comfortable room, amazing views and a great breakfast. What more could you want?

  • It is a very nice house with an awesome view and great atmosphere. However, my experience was not very good. Wi-fi did not work on my phone, bed sheets were smelly, and the worst part is that my Nikon SLR camera was stolen from my room even though I left the door locked. That same night, a laptop computer was stolen from another guest who left it in a common area. Anita was sorry for my stolen camera and did not charge me for a second night, however, that does not make up for my stolen camera.

  • A really nice spot with multiple buildings that gives it an intimate feel. I stayed in one of the AC rooms, which was definitely a wise choice, since it was in the mid 80s and very humid. The home is a 15 min walk down a gravel road to a quiet strip of beautiful beach which was free of commercialization (with only a small local surf shop). 15 mins the other way is a nice supermarket and chinese restaurant (really worth going to - you'll need a break from the sodas - local diners). Daily breakfast was lovely with Anita sitting with us and trading stories. She gave us good suggestions on travelling and helped arrange a taxi for us on the last day.

About
I discover Manuel Antonio 38 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our area. (website hidden) We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
