About This Listing
A private home lodging located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a spectacular post card ocean/ jungle view.
We have 2 rooms with shared baths and 6 rooms with private baths. . A short walk to the beach and the National Park. We are not a hotel so if you enjoy staying in a home this is the right place.
A full kitchen is available for your use but breakfast is service in the main house. A large deck overlooking the ocean and tropical rainforest is a wonderful way to see wildlife or just relax with a cold drink and good book.
We also now have three new rooms with private baths and A/C. Each has a double bed and a single bed, sitting area and of course a shower with hot water and some of the best views in Manuel Antonio.
Manuel Antonio and the National Park is internationally known for its breathtaking beauty and abundance of wildlife. Without even moving from our deck you can see monkeys (3 kinds), sloths, coatis, tucans and lots more in their natural environment. Our garden has many species of tropcial plants including heliconias, cinnamon, allspice, papaya, bananas, pineapples and orchids. We are a 10 min walk to the beach. Everything you need can be found within walking distance. A small supermarket, banks, gift shops and some of the best restaurants in the area are a short distance away. Looking directly at the National Park we have one of the best views in Manuel Antonio. Our very small friendly bi-lingual staff with many years of living in Costa Rica, can make any tour reservations for you. If you would like to go sailing, river rafting, parasailing, horseback riding, kayak through the mangrove, or swing through the canopy we can arrange it for you.
All our guests may use the deck and livingroom/kitchen area of the teak house. The view is spectacular and there is a hammock and lots of deck chairs to sit and watch the monkeys passing though the trees.
I would not recommend it for anyone that is not physically active. There are a number of stairs.
I will only receive guests after 6 pm by direct request, so ask first if you plan on arriving at night.
Sorry no arrivals after 6 pm
Please no noise after 10 pm and no unregistered guests in the room.
Anita has a very unique property which is spacious and very vertically-oriented. Her background is vast regarding Manuel Antonio having lived there for over 42 years as of this writing. I was amazed at stories of the area dating back to the area's re-electricity era.
Great place to stay at Manual Antonio. Loved the views from the common area. Anita was a great host and took care of all our needs.
Nice stay. Accomadation (our room) was simple, but very clean and in a very nice surrounding... In the jungle where you can see monkeys from your room.
Bathroom was simple but clean and spacious.
Facilities ok. Nice kitchen for cooking own food. Nice veranda with hammock and relaxed chairs overseeeing the jungle.
Location was great. Near supermarket, near 2 beaches on walking distance, 2 miles drive to park.
Breakfast is ok. Fruit with scrambled eggs and toasted bread.
Hostess is very nice.
We stayed at Anita's for 2 nights and had a great time. We had a rental car but her location is very nice and central and we didn't drive the car once during our stay here. We walked to the beach, about a 10 minute walk down a steep gravel road, and walked to the National Park, and restaurants and the grocery store. The National Park was about a 30 minute walk, first down the steep gravel road to the beach, and then along the beach for about 10 minutes until you cut back onto the road and follow the signs to the park.
This is a gorgeous property, there is a common room with an amazing open balcony that lets you see across the trees and out to the ocean. We were able to see monkeys climbing through the trees about 100 yards off the balcony.
Anita was very helpful and answered any questions we had about the area. I would definitely recommend staying in one of the AC rooms on this property like we did, it made the stay a lot more enjoyable as we were able to easily escape the humidity when it got to be too hot for us. The breakfast was nice and consisted of a tropical fruit bowl, eggs, juice, toast, and a pastry.
Our room at Casa Buena Vista was simple but comfortable. It is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars and the beach via a steep path that you can walk or drive down. We were there in early March and were VERY happy to have a room with air conditioning. A continental breakfast is included.
When you're on the way, please read the other reviews about locating the property, as we also found it slightly difficult. The Barba Roja sign is very small but next to it is a Falafel place as well. Across the street from the turn is a small Casino sign. When you see that, the street will be on your right. If you pass a brand new looking shopping plaza with a super market in it, you've gone too far. I hope you enjoy your stay!
Anita was a wonderful host! The place was beautiful and our room was very comfortable. It was also located pretty close to the main area of restaurants and it was a short 15 minute walk down to the beach. Anita was very helpful and gave us great tips on things to do in the area. We would never have thought to walk down to Playa Biesanz, without Anita's suggestions. We would definitely recommend staying at this place while visiting Manuel Antonio.

About the Host, Anita
I discover Manuel Antonio 38 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our (website hidden) We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
