About this listing
Available mostly year-round. Both long-term and short stays are welcome.
I am a musician, lots of fun, and enjoy meeting new folks. I have a cozy private bedroom with a double bed and private entrance in a 1919 bungalow in Hyattsville's historic and arts district, which is less than two miles from the D.C. border and within five miles of the University of Maryland College Park, Catholic University, Howard University, Gallaudet University, and Trinity Washington University. Also about 20 minutes from NOAA, NASA, Discovery Communications, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington Navy Yard...It's one mile from the West Hyattsville metro on the Green Line, which is 1 stop outside of DC (15 minute ride to Gallery Place, 10 minute ride to U Street). A shuttle bus to the metro is just a block from the house, which operates on weekdays.
The house is within just a few miles of major thoroughfares such as 495/95, 50 (to Annapolis), and 295 (to Baltimore); 30-40 minutes from BWI; 25-35 minutes to Reagan National Airport, and about an hour from Dulles International Airport. We are about 20 minutes from Union Station.
Two neighbors also rent rooms on Airbnb, so groups of friends, or guests of our guests, can stay next door and still be close!
The house is also walking distance to the new Arts District development - Busboys and Poets restaurant and events venue, Yes Organic Market, Tara Thai, Franklin's Brewpub, Chipotle, Elevation Burger, a frozen yogurt place, and a yoga studio. We also back up to Magruder Park, with walking and bike trails connecting to DC. We are within a few miles of the Chocolate City Brewing Company, New Columbia Distillery and new Union Market. On Sundays, you can go a mile away to Arrow Bicycle and join a 32 mile group ride for free.
We are also in the middle of the burgeoning Gateway Arts District, with the Washington Glass School and Studio, Glut Food Co-op, & Joe's Movement Emporium (drop-in yoga!) just a mile away.
Parking space available.
Interaction with Guests
I like to spend as much time as I can with you or as little time as you like.
Basically, please clean up after yourself, no smoking in the house (outside is fine) and that's pretty much it!
We had a wonderful stay in DC for July 4th. Janine was a great host and provided us with valuable advice on parking, the metro, and Washington in general. We would definitely stay with Janine again!
Janine was great! Her place is BEAUTIFUL and we loved our stay. She gave us a great recommendation for dinner and it was perfect. We were only there for one night, but it made our experience with Airbnb wonderful.
Janine is great host and her place is lovely! Wish we could have stayed longer in DC.
It's a wonderful trip in here! I hope I can stay here for every holiday. Janine just like a friend and like a mother, she took care of us with her sincerely love, not too much, not too less. I really love her and her lovely George, her house is a paradise to enjoy your day. Thanks to Janine, you are the best host forever !!! May I come here next time?
Janine was a pleasant host and provided exactly what I had read in her listing. This was my first airBnB experience and I was a little nervous.Janine demeanor set me at ease and from there I was ready to try other airBnBs in the greater DC area.I wish that I could have attended one of her musical engagements but it just didn't fit in my itinerary.Thank-you again Janine!
We loved staying at Janine's place. It was in a great location, so close to the metro which has free parking on the weekend. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean and comfy and the whole house was so interesting with so many unique things to see. The best part was that Janine was RIGHT on it when it came to communication. She had recommendations and made sure we knew how to get to where we were going in DC. We will definitely stay again. Thanks, Janine (and Georges, the cat heh heh)

About the Host, Janine
I am an award-winning performing musician and songwriter in the region. I love flea markets, thrifting, vintage styles, cooking, gardening and just having loads of fun in general. I originally had two cats, Henri and Blanche, but earlier this year got suckered by an adorable stray that started coming around the house and I decided to take him in. His name is Georges. And, yep, I'm a big ol' Francophile - and with good reason, my great grandfather was from France - so it's in my blood. I wave the French and Ohio State Buckeye flags proudly (I'm an Ohio girl). Yes, I've had folks from Michigan stay in my guest room...
I love meeting folks from all over the globe and making them feel welcome in my home. I've been told numerous times that my home is cozy by friends and people visiting for the first time. That makes me smile.
I love traveling as well. I am comfortable traveling in style or low budget. It's more about the experiences instead of wear I lay my head! My favorite places are Paris and Texas so in tribute I like to say my house has the style of Paris, Texas. Still need to take a trip there!
