The Space

Individual room available near Plaza España (5 minutes walking), Magic Fountains of Montjuic, Park Montjuic and all of its museums, gardens, Olympic Stadium, Fortress and many other sites of interest.

Near several lines of transport including Barcelona Sants Station, Metro lines 1 and 3, Aerobus (easy transport to the main airport, El Prat), Barcelona City Tour (bus that takes you on a tour of the city's many touristic attractions), and numerous other bus lines.

Walking distance to La Rambla and the old center of town or a quick trip on the metro ( 3 stops)

Charming early 20th century flat with lots of natural sunlight.
Lovely view of the city and Park Collserola with its emblematic Tibidabo and Church, Temple de Sagrat Cor.

We are also near numerous supermarkets, some of which are open 24 hours a day as well as several bars and restaurants. You will find all kinds of shopping possibilities near by such as Arenas (old bull fighting arena turned into a shopping mall), and the Hostafrancs market (traditional Catalan market selling fresh produce, meats, fish, local specialities, etc.)

You will have your own single bedroom (interior, but we are up quite high so the room does get some light) and may use the whole house (kitchen, living room and shared bathroom).

WE ALSO HAVE TWO OTHER ROOMS AVAILABLE IN OUR FLAT FOR RENT. CHECK THEM OUT HERE: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1110256

We are a young, friendly house and look forward to meeting you!

  • I was so pleased by my stay with Mary and Starsky. At first I was afraid the room might be too small, but it turned out to have plenty of room. The apartment is located (email hidden) and with wonderful access to the entire city. Mary reminded me to not miss the Magic Fountains which turned out to be amazing. Mary and Starsky were so friendly and welcoming and made me feel right at home, so much so that I actually almost forgot when I had to leave and didn't get to thank Mary and Starsky in person for so wonderful a stay. Thank you! My only regret was that I didn't have more time...

  • The best thing about this place is the convenient location: Walking distance from Train station. The airport but stop right by the apartment. That'll take care of lots of stress about traveling. Plaza de Espanya is 5 min walk. If you want to make a day trip to Montserrat, R5 train leaves from here. 3 metro lines go through here. Magic fountain (you must see the music fountain show, from 9p-11:30p Thur-Sun) is 10 minutes walk. The apartment itself is very clean and well cared for. Beds are very comfortable. Everything is clean. Mary and Starsky as hosts are very nice and accommodating. They really take care of the airbnb guests. Two of the 3 guest rooms are quite small, but OK for 1 person. The double room has a US full size bed (not queen size) and is quite spacious. The only minor draw back is that down below is a very busy street with quite heavy traffic and it gets quite noisy. Also, the elevator door bangs when people use it, especially in the morning or at night. So if someone is very sensitive to noise level, you could get frustrated (If you use ear plugs, it is much better). Other than that, this (email hidden) to stay in the center of Barcelona. I had a great stay. Thank you! Mary and Starsky!

    Response from Mary:

    Marcia,

If you had read the house rules, we clearly stated that the hours for quiet time in the flat were between 11pm and 7am. I believe you had an early flight Sunday morning, and we were playing music Saturday night until 11. When you asked us to turn it off we did just that. I'm sorry you had such a difficult time sleeping. If you would have asked for help, I could have shown you how to open the window properly as well as supplied you with a fan. As we live in a warm climate we do not always know when our gusts begin to feel the summer heat, so a bit of communication would be helpful as we are more than happy to accommodate our guests needs to the best of our ability. Please also remember, you get what you pay for. To find a private room equally well located in Barcelona city center for such a low price is basically impossible. This room, as stated on the room description page (very important to read this information) is described as small and interior, so this should not have come to a surprise to you. There many air-conditioned, larger rooms available in BCN city center but you will definitely need to pay substantially more for them.

  • Host was not welcoming. I asked to arrive 39 minutes early at 1030 and got to the flat at 10:22 her first response was, "you are early, I thought we agreed on 10:30." I had been traveling for 12 hours, what does 8 minutes matter? She wasn't helpful with directions or activities. I would not stay here again! Sorry, it was cheap but really not a welcoming experience (email hidden)!

    Response from Mary:

Wow, Desiree, your experience quite opposite the other 100 or so comments I have received. To clarify, check-in time was 11am. You asked to check-in at 10am (because you had scheduled a bike tour ahead of time) and I agreed to 10:30, which you said would be "perfect". You rang our doorbell at 10:10am, yes, only "20" minutes earlier than the agreed upon time, but our home is not a hotel with 24 hour reception service. My husband and I both work full-time jobs and have other obligations to consider. I believe it was kind and flexible on my part to agree to an earlier check-in at all, which I am by no means required to do. You deliberately ignored our agreement, which is not a very good way to make a first impression I might add. We do our best to accommodate our guests check-in requests, but we can't be available at all hours. In the future, if you have a very specific check-in needs, you should clarify this before booking. If you would like to feel welcomed (email hidden)" you should also be respectful of those hosting you.

  • Had a wonderful stay with Mary n Starsky. The apartment is in a great location close to the Metro n on a nice busy street. So no problems or concerns go to apartment at night by myself. Room was clean and comfortable. The apartment was clean and accessible. Freedom n comfort is yours. Other guest there so it gave me a true feeling of staying at a Bed n Breakfast.

  • I had a great time (one week) at Mary's in Barcelona. The appartment is very well located near many bus and train stations. There are a lot of little supermarkets and shops in the neighbourhood. The room was as seen on the fotos, cozy little clean. I'liked it. I felt very welcomed by Mary and her husband. Thank you :)

About
I'm from Portland ,Oregon, USA and I've been living in Barcelona since June 2011. I studied a master's degree in Translation Studies at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and am currently working as a freelance translator/english teacher. My interests include, hiking, camping, cooking, soccer, dancing, el Camino de Santiago, yoga, running, foreign languages, and of course, world travel. I couldn't (email hidden) in the world, there are too many wonderful things to see and experience; however, next on my destination list is the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. Although I'm new to Airbnb, I have lots of experience living with people from all over the world. Previous roommates of mine have come from countries such as China, Nigeria, Kenya, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Iran and Mexico. Looking forward to meeting more travelers from all over the world! Peace
