Beautiful sunny room in a great Mimo style home.
Beautiful sunny room in a great Mimo style home.
Renting a room in a totally renovated 1950's Mimo Style Miami home (1,500SqFt) in a small municipality (Village of El Portal) within the City of Miami that is known for its foliage, peacocks, and The Little River of Miami. This is also where the Tequesta Indians once inhabited the area about 500 years ago and is marked as a county historic site. Very quiet and quaint neighborhood and close to most attractions in Miami.
For students attending Barry University the house is located about a two minute drive. If you are attending FIU North Campus it is about a 15 minute drive. If you are a student and would like an extended stay we can negotiate a better price.
For visiting tourists the drive to South Beach is 15 minutes from the house, North Beach 10 minutes. The home is centrally located so that you can get to the airport in 15 minutes, Different shopping venues no more than 15 minutes away and Downtown the same amount of time.
The room is completely decorated and furnished, has a firm full size bed, plenty of closet space, additional storage room for boxes and luggage, laundry room and parking are also included.
I have WIFI throughout the house, however you can use my computer located in the living room. You can also sit and relax in the living room and use the TV and sound system. The rest of the house is shared bathroom, living room, kitchen, dinning room, and yard.
All guests will have access to the entire home except for my bedroom. You can have breakfast at home and snacks if you please. I try to stay stocked up for guests.
I try to interact with all my guests all depending on my workload and how much time I have to be out. I enjoy talking with my guests and exchanging travel experiences.
The neighborhood is a quiet residential one that has quite a bit of old Miami history. Great neighbors and funny mailman. It is a small town in a very large city.
The house is located about 200 yards from the most important street of Miami, Biscayne Blvd. The bus stop is right at that corner and you can go either North or South to all the major connections. However, Miami is very spread out so it could take a lot of time if crossing the city. Keep that in mind. Rental car is the most efficient and convenient for a city like Miami.
I have two small dogs one is a Miniature Schnauzer that is 7 years old and a Havanese that is 8 month old. They are both very friendly and are hypo allergenic dogs.

Frankly, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Miami now that I've met Calixto and his adorable dogs!
Cal is the consummate host. Despite having a very busy schedule, he ensured that my stay went without a hitch. He's warm, generous, and a great conversationalist. The coffe *is* all that. Delicious! And he made his banana bread, sent me home with the loaf, and insisted I take a bag of beautiful mangoes, too.
The house is a gem. It's immaculately kept, and Cal's art collection is fabulous. I so enjoyed hearing the stories behind the pieces in his collection.
The guest bedroom has a very comfortable bed, as well as a comfy sofa. A blackout shade and lovely, heavy drapes keep the hot morning sun completely in check, but when open, like all the other windows in this house, let in beautiful light.
As I'd never rented just a room in a private home before I was a little apprehensive about sharing a bathroom, but Cal made it a breeze. We easily coordinated our schedules. The bathroom, like everything else in the house, is sparkling and has terrific tub and tile details.
If you have the opportunity to stay in Miami, I can't recommend highly enough how great it is to be in this house. Enjoy!
My stay with Calixto in Miami was fantastic. I had such a great time and Calixto was such a kind and generous host. He gave me everything I needed and I felt like I was at home. The room was very clean and the bed extremely comfy. He made me feel very welcome and was able to answer all the questions I had. It was very easy to get to South beach and he even drove me to a mall so I could go shopping. The neighbourhood is very safe. I would definitely recommend anyone coming to Miami to stay here. His 2 dogs were just delightful too. Thanks Calixto for making my time in Miami great. I'll definitely be staying here again.
I spent a week at Calixto's and I wish I's stay more.
Calixto is a very happy and easygoing guy, and his home is quiet and clean. His two dogs are very friendly, and the Cuban atmosphere all around made me feel very comfortable.
The kitchen is full and immaculate, and luckily Calixto allowed me to use everything and anything. Plenty of room in the fridge also. I really hope everytime I visit an airbnb house it'd be as friendly and comfortable as his.
Great offer for the money, and my future home for any other trip to Miami.
we spent 4 great days at calixto's home which is so cute! clean, very quiet & safe (also the neighborhood), comfortable beds in our room and couch in the living room, beautiful garden, roomy kitchen with breakfast and snaks to take.
calixto is a very helpful, friendly, funny and lovely person without being importunate. he offered us cuban coffe and guave cake, helped us with our trips and getting a rental car. it was so nice to meet him, we hope to see him and his puppies again one time!
It was our first stay with airbnb and we felt nervous. Our stay at Calixto`s home was more than fantastic! WOAH! Calixto was a excellent host, very helpful and we hope a friend forever! The location was safe ,clean and quiet, higly recommended! Thank you so much,Calixto! You´re welcome every time at our place! Hope to meet you again... Thanks a lot! Jörg & Tanja
Calixto and his puppies where great hosts. I woke up mornings with the aroma of his wonderful Cuban expresso coffee and warm greetings. The house is very clean and comfortable, with a large TV in the living room and a smaller personal one in the rental room. He frequently leaves food in the fridge to snack on, though we are encouraged to have meals outside. The car driveway easily accommodates two cars, and the house is relatively easy to find coming from either I-95 or Biscayne Boulevard. I look forward to my return visit! Many thanks Calixto for your kind hospitality.
Calixto is a very nice host and the house is very beautiful and clean.
We will definitly recommend this place to stay in Miami. The neighborhood is very safe and you will be close to the beach.
Thank you again Calixto for everything
My colleague and I rented Calixtos place in March after sifting through expensive hotels. He was so easy to communicate with and very patient as we waited to secure our plans. His home is identical to the pictures in a very quiet neighborhood. We were there for the Miami Jazz in The Gardens and his home was perfectly located to everywhere we went.
His housekeeper was also very accommodating.
The best part was our morning conversations over Cuban coffee. He was a wonderful host, giving as much or little, that you need. I would definitely stay again.
I enjoyed it to live and stay in a very nice typical, stylish Miami Mimo house. Calixto is an outstanding an extremely pleasant and nice host. He made my stay!! Once more many thanks for everything.
