There are people you are meant to meet along your path in life and Guisela is one of them for me. She opened her home, her family and friends with me and was generous in a way that is very rarely encountered in life. While my conference and work schedule were punishing and impossible at times, Guisela rolled with the punches, was flexible, communicative and always willing to accommodate and support me in what I needed. When the Internet wasn’t working, they fixed it; when mosquitoes were biting me at night, they bought me a coil, when I was hungry they fed me, when I was late to get to the airport, she and her husband, Richard, helped get me there on time. I joined them for Wednesday family meals, was invited to art exhibits and trips and just generally was made to feel welcomed and loved by them. They provided guidance, contacts and helped in any way they could with my reporting and research. It was a transformative experience to have met them and I can honestly say that I consider them family and know I have a home in Guatemala City. I hope they know that wherever I go, they have a home with me, but, mostly I carry them in my heart now. I can only feel gratitude for this experience and hope others will feel the same way when they stay here!
It was such a pleasure staying with Guisela. She was extremely warm, welcoming, and generous. I felt incredibly comfortable in her home and she introduced me to wonderful aspects of Guatemalan culture. She truly goes above and beyond. Thank you Guisela!
Guisela and her family were wonderful hosts and made what could have been a very challenging first night and day in Gustemala very comfortable and enjoyable! My flight got in very late and they were kind enough to pick me up at nearly midnight. After a breakfast of eggs and homemade bread, Guisela took me to the supermarket so I could pick up some things and then took me to the airport to catch a shuttle to Panajachel. We were informed that since it was Palm Sunday the last shuttle had already left and a private shuttle would cost $140! With outg hesitation Guisela offered to make the 2.5 hour drive and take me if I covered the cost of gas! It was a very enjoyable ride and she told me all about places we passed along the way. Once there, she helped me buy my return shuttle ticket and had lunch with me before she headed back. She went way above and beyond to help me and I can't thank her enough! It was a real blessing!
Guisela and her family were amazing hosts! They were very welcoming and knowledgeable of Guatemala City. I highly recommend staying with Guisela if you find yourself travelling in Guatemala.
Guisela and her family were wonderful hosts for my time in Guatemala. They have a lovely, cosy house and the bedroom is very comfortable. It was great to be able to return after hard, long working days back to a familial atmosphere and good conversation. Guisela was also very helpful directing me towards places to eat and assisting me with other needs.
Thank you guys!
I had a great time!!! I immediately found myself a new family! They picked me up and fed me delicious food! And we had great conversations.
Guisela, You are Mrs Hospitality. You and your husband Richards are probably one of the most wonderful hosts of Airbnb and in general also. I shall always remember your affection, friendship and wanting to help someone always. You both have touched my heart. You know my personal email address' keep in touch. My prayers are always with you. You both have a great one in Cuba. Always a friend and lots of love. VsKumar
