Guest Room on Bus Line in N. CH

Apartment - Private room · Umstead Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27516, United States

Want to be a temporary flatmate joining a reasonable, adult household? You've found the perfect spot!

The Space

++ How Far to UNC? ++

Welcome! Since you are looking at a Chapel Hill room, I'm guessing you are here for our major attraction: the university. Luckily, this is a very close place to stay. You can walk the 20 minutes to the University, bike the 10-15 minutes (depends on your fitness level), drive the 5 minutes, or ride on the fare-free bus for 10 minutes. In all, you can go from asleep to campus in under a half an hour!

++ Where Will I Sleep? ++

On offer is a single bed inside of the guest room in a lovely three bedroom apartment/condo in just-barely-north-of-campus, Chapel Hill. It is a private room with a locking door, and has access to the full bathroom across the hall. The guest room serves double duty as my home office, so there are office items in the room, but I will respect guest privacy and it will not be used as an office while guests are occupying the room.

++ Included Extras ++

Sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, and wash cloths are all provided for guest use.

++ Kitchen Access and Public Spaces ++

Guests are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, and porch, and bicycle (on the porch) as long as the space is maintained in a clean & neat manner and owner’s belongings respected.

The living room has typical living room amenities: couches and a television. The caveat is that the television is only for local over the air stations.

++ WiFi ++

There is WiFi which takes a WPA password. Access to WiFi has been included in the price of the room. Please know how to use your technology to log in to the WiFi.

++ Laundry ++

Laundry facilities (in a separate laundry room attached to the pool house) are conveniently located but cost $2.75 in either quarters or on a debit/credit card.

++ Parking and Public Transportation ++

There is parking. The apartment is served directly by the N bus which is free to ride, and takes you to downtown/campus. You have no fear of missing the bus stop as it is a major stop which is announced on board the bus.

++ Other Amenities ++

There is a tennis court, basketball court, and pool at the complex.. A town park with picnic shelters, a baseball/softball/kickball field, basketball court, hiking trails, swings, and children's play structure is within a half-block walk.

++ Additional Guests ++

There is only an actual bed and linens for one, but you know your travel companions, and if they are willing to bring sleeping bags or air mattresses, they are welcome to sleep on the floor of the guest room. It is carpeted. Towels can be provided for additional guests. The additional guest fee covers the impact of additional guests on metered utility bills.

++ The Household ++

You will be joining a functioning household. In the apartment are myself {Jen; female} and my flatmate Dominika {female}. The bathroom you have access to is shared with Dominika. We welcome people who will integrate well into a household or be an independent guest, as this is not offered to be a luxury-hotel-type experience.

As you will be sharing a bathroom with Dominika, she asks that guests who stay for over a week help contribute to the weekly cleaning of the shared bathroom. While all reservation requests have to be approved by her, and that takes time for me to share with her and her to read and reply, she has told me that she will pre-approve any reservation where the guest makes mention of helping with bathroom cleaning duties. Want faster feedback? Mention this!

We keep the temperature in the apartment set to 70*F year round. Your room will have a personal space heater and a personal desk fan (for moving air to cool you) that you are encouraged to use. Individuals who enjoy colder temperatures in the summer are advised to find lodging elsewhere.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the single bed inside of the guest room in the greater household. The bedroom has a locking door and while there will be office supplies stored in the bedroom, the bedroom will not be used as a home office during the guest's stay. It is a home office, otherwise.

Guests will have shared-access to a bathroom across the hall that they will share with the occupant of The Blue Room, who is, at present, a woman named Dominika.

++ WiFi ++

There is WiFi which takes a WPA password. Access to WiFi has been included in the price of the room. Please know how to use your technology to log in to the WiFi.

Interaction with Guests

You will be joining a functioning household. In the apartment are myself {Jen; female} and my flatmate Dominika {female}. The bathroom you have access to is shared with Dominika. We welcome people who will integrate well into a household or be an independent guest, as this is not offered to be a luxury-hotel-type experience.

Interaction is that of a shared adult household. Sometimes we chat. Sometimes we retire to our rooms for privacy and solitude. Sometimes we gather in the living room to watch movie. Sometimes we cook together and share the cost and experience of a meal. Sometimes we cook individually and do not share.

Guests can be expected to be treated as a typical flat mate would. :)

  • Jen is an excellent host. I stayed with her and her flatmate Dominika for 6 weeks, and it was a great experience. Everything was as described, and Jen was so helpful, from lending me her discount card at the supermarket, to giving me a ride to the airport, and even loaning me her car when she didn't need it. I'd recommend staying there to everyone.

  • Jen and her flat mate were great. I couldn't make it on my due date and they were very flexible about that. I had crazy hours of being awake and being out and they did not seem to mind.
    I had a great time and hope to go back to Jens place again.

  • Excellent host!

  • Jen was a wonderful host! She was helpful and really opens up her entire apartment to her guests. It's very easy to get into town from her place, either by walking or bus if you don't have a car, as well. You're going to have a great time if you stay with her!

  • Fue una estancia muy agradable y cómoda. Cumplió con mis expectativas. Es un lugar tranquilo y limpio, privado, el vecindario muy tranquilo y está muy cerca de la UNC!

  • I spent more than 2 months in Jenn’s apartment and it was awesome!

    It was my first Airbnb experience and I have chosen the location because of its comments which are all true! Looking for the combination of privacy and meeting locals for getting a different impression of the American Life I found a perfect place.

    The hostess: Jenny is a very friendly person, respects your privacy and helps you with almost everything. She provides you with all the necessary information you need for a great time in Chapel Hill and the area. Getting insider tips what to do, where to go and what to avoid was more than useful. Being interested you can join her outdoor activities, go to meet-ups and participate in organized trips to explore North Carolina. She even gives you a ride to the Airport!

    The place: The room matched perfectly with the description that includes a little desk, a wardrobe and a bed. It is simple but clean and very comfortable. The bathroom is shared with another flatmate who is very easy to come along with as well. There is a full equipped kitchen and a living room ready to use. The apartment itself is perfectly located, close to UNC (10 min with the free bus) but not too close neither so that you can enjoy hiking on near trails. There are many sport facilities such as basketball and a swimming pool; sand volleyball fields are located on the near Umstead Park (2 min walk).

    Nevertheless there are 2 minor cons: Internet connection is slow that makes video-chatting difficult. There is no cable/satellite TV but a PS2 with movies.

    Very strongly recommendable!

  • I arrived at Jen's after 10pm and left the next morning at 8. She was very accommodating about the late arrival and came out to meet me in the lot when I had trouble figuring out the guest parking. The room is very basic, the bed is comfortable and a little note card explained all the various services/perks (which I didn't have time to take advantage of). The rest of the house is on the messy side. Felt like I was crashing at a college friend's place...

  • Jen was very friendly and accommodating. The room is as advertised - small but clean, as was the bathroom. I would stay there again.

    June 2013
  • Perhaps not for the neatnik, but very welcoming, sharing, and comfortable. Great value for the budget minded.

    April 2013
  • I went to Chapel Hill for a Graduate School Reunion, so I needed a place where I could be independant and not pay as much as for a hotel. Jen was very reactive and easy to contact. The appartment is a bit cluttered for a place to sleep for a few days it serves its purpose.

About
Jen is a nanny in Chapel Hill, NC. When she isn't busy corrupting young minds, she is probably hiking in the woods, paddling on a lake, or camping. She is a woman of simple, yet evil, tastes. You can learn more than you ever wanted to know about her on the blog she has kept since she was a senior in high school @ o w. l y/ d x 3 W 7 {Just delete the unnecessary spaces.} She also seems to feel that this section needs to be filled out in the third person.
