This flat is centrally located in the city of Leghorn – Livorno - yet in a quiet residential little road with little traffic, if at all. The flat is made of a large living room - where a sofa bed is placed; at the end of the room on the right there is a small kitchen; on the left you have a small corridor that leads to the bathroom and to the bedroom. The flat has been recently renovated and has both heating and air conditioning.
Livorno is possibly the less touristic of the Tuscan towns, and therefore the less invaded by mass tourism. It is a town of great character where most people are helpful and good spirited. Livorno can be taken as a destination in itself, for its beautiful seaside inside or just outside the city's borders, in Ardenza and Antignano, Calafuria or the Sonnino Castle; it is great for sunbathing, swimming and even snorkelling. Livorno is also a good place for some sightseeing, to enjoy a stroll on the beautiful Mascagni Terrace right on the sea, the Naval Academy, the area of the canals, called not by chance “the Venice”, the two fortresses (the old Medicean one and the more recent one), the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Monte Nero and the Acquarium; for a little bit of history, you can also see from the outside the place where the Italian Communist Party was founded in 1921 and of great interest is the history of the Jewish community of Livorno, also explained in the Jewish museum.
Livorno can also be seen as a great basis for exploring Western Tuscany, starting from Pisa which is just 20 minutes away (both by car and by train) and Lucca, or for Northern Tuscany, if you head towards the Lunigiana, an area that borders with the region of Liguria. Equally beautiful is the coast if you head South. Or you can always head towards Florence, which is just 60 miles (77km) away. I also have a flat there just in case you need one!
If you like to eat fish, there are many excellent restaurants where you can enjoy the traditional “Cacciucco” - a rich and tasty fish stew on a layer of garlicky bread – grilled or baked fish of the day coming straight from the fishermen's boats, excellent oysters for the more demanding or pasta with mussels or octopus. The “Venice” area is full of restaurants serving both fish and non-fish dishes. There are also great gelato places; one is opposite the Mascagni Terrace; and the other (Fiori Rosa) is opposite my favourite fish restaurant, a family owned trattoria (L'Angelo D'Oro) where the owner will entertain you (in the dialect from Livorno) and passionately explain every dish on his menu.
As mentioned above, the flat is located in the center of town, so you won't find any difficulty in looking for supermarkets (500 meters), a pharmacy, one of the town's best patisseries (L.E.F.), newstands, bookshops, a fantastic bread maker is on the corner of the street. I really really hope you enjoy your stay.
Great place to stay in Livorno! The flat is spacious and well-equipped. Marcella was very easy to communicate with, and her mum met us at the apartment and showed us around and got us settled. She was also available immediately by phone when we needed her help.
A nice little welcome package was waiting for us with biscuits and coffee etc., and Marcella's recommendation of L'Angelo D'Oro was spot on. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.
Don't worry if you need wifi - the city has a program with free wifi in some piazzas, and one of those spots is just down the street.
Charming and cosy attic indeed, nested on the roofs of Leghorn, a lively and historical port of Tuscany. Marcella's tips for eating and hanging out proved fantastic to enter the city atmosphere: a slice of delicious "cecina", just baked in the right spot, leads to exhilarating experience of the old central market crowd!
The flat was perfectly clean and fully equipped, at 8/10 min walking distance from the city center and main bus routes. Look forward to come back and taste the "cacciucco"!
Marcella was a very generous and thoughtful host and the apartment was great--spacious, comfortable, and very central. Marcella had put nice touches all through it--helpful information about the city, soap in the bathroom, milk and cookies in the kitchen, etc. She and her husband were both very responsive to any problems that came up. It was a great stay!

I am an academic based at the University of Venice but I live in Florence. I'm very fortunate because I commute between two very beautiful towns; but what I most like to do is travel for pleasure and not for work. I also love skiing and swimming and, apart from work, I spend my time reading, meeting friends; I often give small dinner parties for friends in the house that you are viewing and they are always a success... I love cooking and having guests...I also love to meet new people. ciao.
