Dar Al Bahar is certainly the name it deserves: the house by the sea.
Built on the ramparts of the city of Essaouira in the "San Dion" area, she faces the ocean and its trade winds. From the terrace the view is one of constant movement, winds breaking against the rocks of the coast, offering an amazing spectacle. From there, you can also enjoy the panoramic view over the medina with its northern fort of the ancient Scala and the Mellah (the former Jewish quarter). In the distance, you can see the sand dunes, which actually touch the northern outskirts of the city.
Jean-Claude and Lise, a french-dutch couple, have completely renovated this house which was built at the turn of the last century. At that time, this part of Essaouira was much more animated thanks to the presence of an authentic windmill which formerly provided flour for the city and the back country. At this place, a new hotel has been built but the street name remained: Touahen, which means mill in Arabic.
Today, the peacefulness of this place is only disturbed by breaking waves and shrieking seagulls.
You will certainly have a pleasant stay in Dar Al Bahar !
The published room rate refers to a twin room without sea view. If you wish to find out the rates and availabilities for other room types, please send us a message and we will return with a swift reply.
Rate does not include the tourist taxes applied by the city (23 dirhams/person/night), to be settled in cash at the front desk.
Lovely place right by the sea (though you have to pay a little extra for a room with a view) - thankfully the terrace for breakfast more than makes up for that! Funky rustic decor and spacious comfortable rooms. Recommended for a short stay in Essaouria.
Riad acceuillant avec personnel disponible.Bien situe face a la mer! Hotel et non chambres hotes! Belle deco☆☆
Great place to stay in Essaouria! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the roof-deck and had an incredible view over the city. The staff were very friendly. The Riad is very close to all sights. Our room was a little bit small, but clean.
Lovely stay at a this b&b. Located right on the water and down a quiet street away from the madness of the medina's main streets. Incredibly friendly staff, helping us with everything we needed.
We really enjoyed our stay here - friendly and a great location with cracking sea views! Thanks!
riad agréable mais un peu bruyant a cause de la rue et un peu cher
This is a lovely place to stay in Essaouira, right by the sea down a quiet street of the medina. The roof terrace really makes it, which is why we stubbornly had breakfast up there despite very strong winds on our first morning! The rooms are simple and very nicely decorated. The one with a sea view had a much nicer bathroom than the one at the back of the house, so was worth spending the extra money. One thing that was slightly lacking was someone to give us some tips and advice about Essaouira, but if you're looking for a private and quiet stay then this is the place to go!
We were a group of 5 and we had some odd circumstances as we had to change from 6 to 5, and then we eventually extended our stay. They hosts were very flexible and super helpful! Essaouira was amazing, and staying at Dar Al Bahar, was the cherry on top. We had a great time! The rooms were well decorated, and clean. Breakfast was also very good!
Only a few cons....the pillows were very hard, which was hard if you're used to soft pillows. And lastly, the taxi the hotel called for us was very late and the communication between hotel and taxi were not good and he did not understand that we needed to go to the airport. So we cut it really close to missing our flight. All in all, we did make it, so crisis averted, but make sure the communication is better if you require a taxi from the hotel.
Other than that, the views were phenomenal, the top patio was perfect for sunset watching and breakfast in the mornings, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful! We had such a good time, and would recommend the stay at Dar al Bahar.
We had a great stay at Dar Al Bahar. Location is very good. It is close to every attraction but at the same time away from all the hassle. Everything was clean and the staff was quite helpful.
