I loved my stay here!! It was my first time in Africa and I felt very much at home. The garden is really beautiful as well as the veranda. The staff is very attentive and helpful! My room was spacious and clean. Moreover, Muyenga is a fun neighbourhood with a lot of nice restaurants. Definitely would recommend Banda Inns for anyone who wants to have a good time in Kampala.
I have stayed for 7 nights at Stevens Bed and Breakfast Hotel Banda Inn. It is perfect located in Kampala and I found very quite, clean and safe place but close to town and very close also to restaurants and bars.
The staff is very friendly and helpful all the time.
Every day (except Sunday) the laundry was done...FOR FREE!!!
I loved sitting at the beautiful Veranda with the view to the garden, having breakfast or even working there.
The room was very quiet. All facilities were very clean, towels and bedsheets were changed regularly.
Breakfast was very well prepared with coffee, tea, cacao, toast, variety of hot freshly prepared meals, fruits, cereals, yoghurt, peanut butter, jam, honey. There is no regular restaurant, drinks are available and simple meals can be arranged with the staff some hours ahead.
Steven and his staff welcomed me very friendly. I can fully recommend this accommodation to anybody who wants to explore Kampala and who doesn't need the luxury of a 5+ Star hotel ;-). I have stayed in many hotels in Africa but never before I got so much for this little money.
I am normally need an AC, but the air was all the time fresh and quite cool, so that I could sleep very well with the fan only in my room.
In case I am coming back to Kampala I will stay for sure again at Banda Inns!
I stayed with Steven and Asteria for three weeks, so pardon the forthcoming (long) review. Overall, I absolutely loved my stay at Banda Inns. Whether you're on a business trip or a vacation, this is a really ideal place to stay. However, I'll bullet point each aspect worth note.
**Value - 5/5. Consistent wifi, clean housing, friendly people!
**The staff - 5/5. I came to really love the staff. Everyone's knowledge of English varies, so if some seem shy that's really the only reason why. However, they are super attentive and seemed quite trustworthy when I was here. Asteria, Steven's wife, is such a wonderful woman. She's very helpful and caring and gives you great advice about anything. I really recommend getting to know her if you can - she certainly made my stay comfortable. :-)
**The room - 2/5 stars. Honestly, the only reason I'd give my particular room any stars is because it was clean and spacious. Besides that, its plain white walls and lack of any decoration in any area was a bit depressing for the first week or so that I was there. There was a strange stain on the wall and the whole thing could really use some paint. This particular room is also located right by the veranda, so you can hear everything that anyone says while eating breakfast or chatting (since that's where most people go to enjoy the lovely property). This also means that they can hear whatever is said in your room (because the windows are always open)... The lack of privacy didn't suit my tastes. For the last few days, there was a cigarette smoker on the premise, so I also had to enjoy the odor drifting in from the window. :(
**The bathroom - 4/5 stars. The shared bathroom is huge, beautiful, and always clean. I never had to wait for someone to leave, which was nice. The only reason why I don't give the bathroom a perfect 5 is because the basic provisions I've come to expect from a B&B were missing... toothpaste, liquid soap (so I don't have to share a bar with strangers), hand towels... etc.
**Cleanliness - 5/5. They go above and beyond for cleanliness. Including mopping the floor every few minutes on rainy (which means muddy) days! The only downside was that I was never informed on how laundry and room cleaning worked until two weeks in... I usually like to do my own cleaning for my room, so it's partially my fault for never bringing it up.
**Location - 5/5. Truly perfect! Close to the supermarket, Cafe Kawa (veggie burgers, fresh juices, great meals), Kabalagala aka party central, beautiful Muyenga homes and scenery, currency exchange. It's pretty great. There are also always boda bodas right across the street (if you dare!)
Thanks to Steven for this great inn! This is a very trustworthy spot, just new to AirBnB, so use (website hidden) for more reviews.
