About This Listing
Beautiful, spacious and cozy home in the heart of the national historic Sam Hughes neighborhood in Tucson! Enjoy comfort, fine furnishings, & outdoor living space within walking and short driving distance of the U of Arizona and Tucson's attractions!
(Street view is nearby, not exact. (website hidden) street view is outdated for this property.)
If you are looking for a beautiful home in the heart of Tucson's historic Sam Hughes district, close to the University and many other Tucson attractions and spas, you have found it here!
Recently renovated and beautifully furnished 3BR, 2 BA home in the heart of the historic Sam Hughes neighborhood. Within walking distance of beautiful parks, stores, restaurants and the University of Arizona and its museums and offerings. Within short driving/taxi distance of first class day spas, golf, tennis, sports, hiking and diverse Tucson attractions.
The home is very open and offers a lot of light. Ideal for 2 couples or a couple with a friend/s or small family who wish to enjoy some time in Tucson. The living space is open to the kitchen and dining area. Depending on the party, it sleeps 4 or 5 comfortably. One bedroom offers a queen sized bed. The second offers a full to queen sized (It is a queen but one guest suggested it is not adequate for two larger people). The third bedroom also serves as an office for those who need to work on the road, and also has a single couch or blowup bed.
There is an outdoor parking space for one or two cars.
The style is modern chic with beautiful wood ceilings and exposed logs in the living area.
The outdoor living space is private (surrounded by adobe wall and gates) and spacious. The outdoor space is adorned by indigenous plants and other special touches. You will enjoy mountain views from the front patio and BR/office.
The Sam Hughes neighborhood is on the national historic register and is perfect for morning and evening walks. Within 1-2 blocks each way is a corner market for coffee and convenient shopping, a pub and Tucson Tamale, the best tamales in the city! The University of Arizona is also a short 10-15 minute walk and offers museums, the arts, music and other attractions, including sporting events in the PAC-12 at the highest level of collegiate sports.
Tucson public transit is excellent and accessible.
The home is unique in many respects, but mostly due to the openness, light, exposed wood and log in a traditional southwestern adobe home. It is also well situated to all attractions, from day spas such as Miraval and Canyon Ranch to first class golf courses and hiking trails in Sabino Canyon.
p.s. While one week is the minimum stay, I will consider long weekends of 4 night minimum stays at a slightly higher price.
Guests have full access to the house, including the front patio, back yard and driveway.
Interaction with Guests
Guests have sole access to the house during their stay. I am involved only in check in and check out.
The neighborhood, Sam Hughes, is a lovely historic neighborhood. It is beautiful for walks, has easy access to a neighborhood grocer (Rincon Market), restaurants by foot or car and is walking distance to the University of Arizona and its many attractions. It is also centrally located to ever attraction in the Tucson area. One of my favorite spots for eat in or take out is the original Tucson Tamales, the best in the land! (A short walk from the house)
There is easy public transit and while convenient to have a car, depending on the purpose of your trip, you can choose not to have a car.
Other Things to Note
It's a lovely property with all amenities and you will feel at home and very comfortable.
No pets. No smoking inside the house. Please take care of home as you would take care of your home that you wish to remain in excellent condition. We require a cleaning service after each rental but please clean up after yourself so that cleaning is surface cleaning. We expect guests to report any problem or damage immediately.
Sunroom, office and 3rd bedroom that explodes with sunlight in the morning, when you raise the sun-proof blinds!
Laura and Susan did an excellent job of providing me with all the information i needed and accepted my short notice booking. They also worked around my schedule changing due to delayed flights. The home was very nice and more than expected. I will be a repeat customer here.
Laura, and her property manager Susan, made us feel very welcome. The modest groceries provided (a bottle of wine, fruit, coffee) were an unexpected welcoming gift. Communication was clear and thorough. When we had to address a minor issue, we were able to work it out with no problem. Laura and Susan were very easy to reach and responsive.
I am giving this home a five star review for its convenience and high level of comfort and beauty FOR ADULTS, and adults only.
Conversely, in my opinion, this home is *not* appropriate for guests with children, even comparatively well-behaved ones, of which mine are. The furnishings are much more refined -- clearly, customized in an extremely tasteful manner -- than I have ever experienced during my decade of living in and visiting "cozy 'log cabin's" in the desert. (Most everyone I know who lives in Tucson has relatively knockaround furniture that can withstand the dust that comes with fresh air ventilation via open windows.)
This is not a critique of Laura - rather, an acknowledgement of her beautiful style, with attention to customization and detail. But I think that a truth in advertising adjustment is merited here.
Because we have a preschooler and a teenager, we spent almost all of our non-sleeping time *out* of the home so that we wouldn't have to worry about accidental spills, coloring off-the-page, etc. The intensity of monitoring our kids while at home, so as to abide by our understanding of the House Rules, was actually really stressful and, moreover, expensive, as we only wound up trying to manage our stress by having most meals out of the home so as to not risk spills, etc.
My husband and I would gladly stay here again if it was just us, or even us and another couple, but I cannot recommend this home for anyone with children.
Sarah, thank you for the stellar review! I do appreciate your comments regarding children. I have had couples with children in the past and yet agree that the home is a bit more refined and doesn't have a "playroom" for children or anywhere to let loose. Thank you for taking such great care of the house and for the wonderful review! Best, Laura
We had a great stay in the log cabin - it's very comfortable and spacious. Great place to come home to after a day of exploring Tucson! The house has been updated recently with all new appliances, bathroom fixtures, etc. Everything works great. It's really big with two large bedrooms, big living room & kitchen, and an office/den. There's a nice barbeque out back that we used for a family cookout. The place looks exactly like the photos, it's right in the middle of town, and the owner/manager is really responsive. Highly recommended!
House location really didn't have a "neighborhood" feel but was convenient to the area and easily located. It was clean and well maintained, inside and out and looked "cool" on the inside because of all the wood. Electronics all worked well and house instructions were clear and simple. Communication with the owner was easy and pleasant. Routine supplies/staples were more than adequate. A good place for those who need a solid home base from which to pursue and recover from adventures.
Thanks, Bruce! Glad you enjoyed the house and your stay. The home is located in the historic Sam Hughes neighborhood of Tucson, and depending on activities, on foot or by bike, one can easily explore the beautiful local neighborhood, the local delis, shops and restaurants, Himmel Park, U of A, etc., and by car one can easily and quickly get to local attractions, including spectacular hiking, world class golf courses and spas, etc. Thanks again for being a guest at the Log Cabin!
Great place to stay! Beautiful home and gear location.
We enjoyed the stay very much. Laura was very helpful and responsive. The house was super comfortable, nicely appointed, and everything was clean and in good condition. Nice patio area for outdoor sitting. Great location close to campus.
What an excellent place! It was very much as described and shown in the photos. The home was also fully stocked for cooking and grilling on the back porch, which really made it feel like home. We also really enjoyed the built-in sound system! Check-in and out with Sarah was very easy as well. Overall, a wonderful, comfortable stay in a great location.
About the Host, Laura
I am from NJ, currently live in DC and Tucson. I like to travel, workout, enjoy running and my dog and all dogs and animals. I enjoy the beach in the summer, mountains in the winter, and the beauty of nature as well as the energy of great cities. I love great live music and good theater and good food is important to me as well! When I travel I like to be very active but then have a comfortable place to rest. I treat hosts' homes as I would my own and expect the same of guests in my home.
