The Balihut is located in a tropical setting of a forrested Ohia Grove on a 1 acre Gated property in Leilani Estates on the Big Island of Hawaii. 10 feet off the ground puts the Balihut up in the tall Ohia trees and Tropical Vegetation.
Pahoa and Puna are ecclectic and still has the old Hawaii Charm. Strictly off the tourist radar, this is one of Hawaii's best kept secrets. Abundant with attractions including volcanos, surfing beaches and hot ponds this is a must for the adventurer with an affordable budget.
This is a hut in the trees, comfortable, clean and exotic.

The Bali Hut was a great simple retreat in a beautiful native Ohia forest in a really convenient and pretty location. It's raised off the ground about 10 feet which puts you out of reach of most jungle insects and gives you a unique treehouse view of the surrounding forest. Being in the tree canopy puts you right next to the coqui frogs. I used earplugs the first night but found their calls soothed me to sleep the next few nights. The Bali Hut is insulated so that their noise is tamed down "just enough". Bring earplugs just in case.
It is very small and was perfect for me as a solo traveler. Even with two people, you shouldn't be there long enough to feel crowded because there are so many sights and activities around every corner of Puna - it's all about the outdoors here, which you have a great view of from the covered lanai. The Bali Hut is simple, rustic, unique, and private just like Hawaii should be.
The hostess, Dickie, was nice and gives you lots of privacy. The hut is located far away from the main house giving you privacy and the sense that you can come and go and do what you please without disturbing anyone. A private bathroom and kitchenette in this price range is rare, and I think the Bali Hut is an excellent value best used as a launch pad and a sweet place to lay your head after a full day of sightseeing.
The Bali Hut Treehouse was AMAZING!!! It had everything we needed and was just a short drive from Hilo. The futon was very comfortable and there is nothing like showering outside listening to nature. Our host was great also and recommended a couple of things for us to do such as the hot springs and lava viewing. We did both of these things and they were so fun! Overall this is the best experience that I've had with Air BnB and i would love to come back and stay again!
An amazing and very unique place to explore the east of Hawai´i and the Volcanoes National Park. Surrounded only by jungle, birds an frogs (bring Your ear-plugs!) it gave us a pleasant adventurous feeling on our vacation.
I recommend this place and host to my friends and family and would definitely stay here again.
Amazing experience. Lots of privacy and awesome peaceful alone time. Dickie was always there when needed. Very dependable internet She is a great positive person :)
A very nice en exotic place to stay! Almost like camping out in a rain forest. Coqui frogs took some getting used to though. Light and normal sleepers alike would do well to bring good earplugs. Stephanie is a lovely hostess, though we'd not seen each other very often she did make us feel very welcome and at home.
The tree house was fun. The unit was as described. The host met us on our arrival (which according to the host had to be between a specific time due to her schedule -- this may or may not work well for some people) as planned and showed us the unit. The unit itself was interesting, but in the good way. I had never stayed in a tree hut like this before so the I went in blind, short of the pictures posted. The room was definitely interesting, plan for the temperature being warm. There are little geckos and frogs around the tree house, so don't be surprised that you find one in your shower -- it's outdoors! The toilet and shower were a ton of fun to use due to the unique location.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting adventure without giving up the comforts of being near society. I had fun, and would do it again.
We loved the cute little Bali Treehouse. It is surprisingly close to the road, but so sheltered by jungle foliage you would never know it. It was unfortunately the our time there was shorter than planned due to continuous rain which made us decide to leave early.
This was definitely a unique spot. It is "civilized camping" and people should be aware of that. That said, we definitely enjoyed it. The enclosed room and kitchen met our needs (in a very compact way), and the outdoor "living room/porch" in front and outdoor bathroom in back were fun. It was wonderful to sit on the porch each morning and drink coffee and eat breakfast.
We absolutely loved our stay in the little Bali hut! We will definitely be back. We recommend this place. It is a very special. Thank you for having us :)
The Bali hut is really original. It is indeed an (elevated) hut and you do have to walk 50 feet in a jungle to reach it from the parking spot. The house of the owner is located nearby, but not in the jungle. We saw the owner once for 15 mins when we arrived and we never saw her again.
The hut has a relatively small room that includes basic cooking appliances and a fridge, wired ethernet connection (the wireless connection was shaky and did not really work) and there is a bathroom/shower just outside the hut. This means you take your shower outdoors. Although you can sometimes hear the cars from the hut you cannot see them, giving the hut some sense of privacy. We found that the hut fulfilled all basic requirements for our needs, although we slept better in other places - not sure why. In addition, the local frogs called coquis (with whom you share the shower) are extremely loud at night in this area of the island and you may want to use earplugs.
The hut is located 30 mins south of Hilo and there is a grocery store around 15-20 mins from the hut. It is 50 mins drive from the volcanoes national park, and the area in general is beautiful (and wet). It is also near a hot pool and other colder natural seawater pools.
Overall we enjoyed our original stay at the hut and were satisfied with the accommodation.
