House Rules

Unlike many other countries, in Bali you should be polite by talking to everyone you meet. A smile and a simple hello are sufficient, but it is more polite to stop and start a conversation. This is a place to make friends fast. A Balinese saying, "Don't be shy" applies at all times. This also means that you can ask our staff about anything; where to find a good restaurant, where to rent a motor bike or car, where to get a massage, where to find a taxi or tour guide, what to wear when you visit a temple. Don't be shy.

This house is not suitable for young children. There are rice field banks, ponds, irrigation channels and steps that require care to navigate. Great for more grown up kids, but not for the young ones.

You must also acknowledge
Must climb stairs - Climb the Penestanan Steps, the quickest way and good exercise. Or walk in on flat paths. Or ride in by motor bike.
No parking on property - You must walk one minute out of the rice fields to your car or motor bike.

This is such a charming little place- I stayed for two weeks and adored it! Perfect for a solo traveller or a couple. Even nicer than the pictures! It's clear that a lot of love has gone into building and maintaining this little place. Not quite as secluded as I had expected, with holidays homes and private properties all around, but all the neighbours are really friendly and the area tends to attract fairly considerate, quiet guests. Penestanan is green and lush and beautiful, much more scenic than the centre so if atmosphere is what you're after, this is the place! A 20-30 minute walk will get you into the heart of town. I really enjoyed being away from the hectic vibe. The staff (Mrs. Made and Mrs. Nyoman) are so friendly and will help you with anything. Do note that if you want to use their airport pickup service, ask well in advance. I asked about three days before I arrived and they weren't able to arrange it. My mistake entirely, but worth knowing! Easy enough to get a taxi, but it's always nice to have someone waiting when you arrive after a long flight. Really recommend this place for your stay if you're looking to have a blissfully relaxed holiday in a gorgeous but convenient location. Don't fret about the lack of air con- there was almost always a breeze, and Penestanan seems to be slightly cooler than the town. Book this place- you won't regret it!

We've enjoyed every day of our stay. Awesome little place in midst of rice fields away from all the Ubud noise. Some really nice restaurants and shops are only a few minutes away. Best thing: sitting on the porch listening to nature, enjoying coffee in the morning and reading your favourite magazine.

Ken and Noelle's little house is a real gem! The perfect place if you want to experience real Bali a bit off from the busy streets of Ubud. I definitely reccommend this place!

Beautiful cottage in the middle of ricepaddies, quiet and very peaceful yet close to nice restaurants, yoga and massage. And it's only a 20 min walk into Ubud. The house itself is amazing, nicely decorated and with a very good bed and shower. From your deck you can watch the farmers harvesting and see the ducks playing around. Beautiful sunsets and i loved listening to the sounds of nature at night. The staff is very sweet and ready to assist. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and calm down, this is your place! Highly recommended!

This place is wonderful. The location is about 10-15 min walk from the city center which I think is perfect. I would rather be further away and not have to hear the bustling of the street. One thing I would say is to bring some kind of clips to keep the mosquito bed curtain closed. Perhaps consider other mosquito deterrents as well. I loved that they provided filtered water at the house so that we didn't have to go buy water all the time.

A work of art. This bungalow is perfectly located, just a quick stroll from Yellow Flower Cafe and Intuitive flow. By far my favorite location in Penestanan and a real taste of Bali and being immersed in nature. I slept with the doors open and woke to the sight of rice fields. Beautiful. No AC or pool, but the bungalow makes up for it in character, just make sure those aren't must-haves before booking.
