The room is located in a quiet residential neighborhood but within walking distance to the TTC bus stop, anearby strip mall and many shops along Eglinton Avenue including banks such as RBC and TD Canada. There is McDonald, Bestbuy, Staples, No Frills, Mandarin buffet, Imperial buffet, Bingo shop, etc.

There is also a small park located about half kilometer, towards the north after Eglinton and Birchmount. There (email hidden) as well as an Indian church closeby.

What makes our place special is its quietness during sleeping hours, very accessible by public transport. It may look far from downtown due to its linear orientation but the subway at Warden makes things closer than usual.

Where to purchase/buy SIM card?

You can purchase pre-paid SIM cards in most stores which sell cell phones. Many malls with have Bell, Rogers, Telus, or other stores or stalls selling phone or SIM cards. You'll also find them in many electronic stores sell phones and cards -- London Drugs, the Source, FutureShop, and even Walmart. You may even find a few at airports.

First, your cell phone must be unlocked. Most US carriers sell cell phone which are locked to operate only on their networks. They won't accept other SIM cards. If you are leasing your phone (i.e. have a contract) they typically won't allow it to be unlocked until the contract is up or you pay off your phone.

Second, you may need to check what type of cell phone you have and which types of cards it accepts. You can visit the Canadian carriers' web sites to see if they have SIMs for your phone.

Third, you get a new (Canadian) phone number. Certain phone features may also not work without programming the phone. This make calling, text messages, etc. somewhat limited.

When travelling to other countries, I tend to just turn my phone to airplane mode and use WiFi. Handle communication via email, web-sites,(website hidden) FaceTime/(website hidden), etc. Many places in Canada have free WiFi. If you really need to make voice calls... you can look at international calling plans via your provider. My wife also bought a super-cheap phone in the US and merely puts $5 on it once a year to keep it activated.

  • I had a wonderful experience. The host was cheerful and helpful and made me comfortable right away. All my questions were answered. The steps for check-in and check-out and the guidelines that need to be adhered to is clearly highlighted making the transition in / out easier. The only area of improvement, I would suggest, is to improve the wifi connectivity.

    November 2013
  • Erwin extended a warm welcome at the airport and assisted subsequently in familiarising with getting around, attending to queries .The location of the accomodation is user friendly for public transportation and is clean and well maintained.I recommend it for any one visiting for short duration.

  • Erwin is Awesome! I had a great time. He was an excellent host, and when I return to Toronto I will be booking with him again. Thanks Erwin!

    June 2013
  • I spent a week there. Erwin is very sympathetic and helpful. He gave me another room, with a double bed. The place is clean and quiet. The internet can be a little slow some times. The neighborhood is nice, and it is easy to reach the house and go to downtown if you follow the instructions in the room's description.

    May 2013
  • Erwin is very sympathetic, he doesn't hesitate to help you and always with the smile !
Moreover the room is clean and comfortable. I don't have a critical, it's for me a very good stay.

    December 2012
  • I spent a week there. Erwin was very nice and gave me a better and bigger room than the one I booked.
Everything was very clean, and the house was quiet.
It's well situated once you know how the bus/subway system work. It takes between 30/40 minutes to arrive in the heart of downtown Toronto.
I would definitely recommend to my friends to stay there if they want to visit Toronto.

    December 2012
  • The apartment was nice. It was located far from Pearson International Airport (2 hours public transportation ride; shorter with cab/taxi) but the transportation is not a problem at all when I need to get to the downtown. The place is nice and quiet, clean as depicted in the pictures. Owner is very friendly and nice to talk to. He has provided me a book about Canada so I can do more research on my travel. He has been providing some guides of where to go too. The kitchen and bathroom are clean and well-equipped as described. There some convenience stores nearby and Walmart (walking: ~15minutes away) too. There are banks for currency exchange nearby too. Owner is nice to talk with about problems and provides solution immediately. He is concerned about the condition of the stay and was making sure that everything is fine with me. I enjoy staying there and would definitely stay in the same place again if I were to visit Toronto again. I would definitely recommend to my friends too.

    November 2012
  • Hosts were very nice and very accommadating. Room was as advertised. Kitchen doesn't have much equipment (ex. no oven or real stove), but adaquet for simple cooking. Could be a cleaner environment, but overall was a good stay :)

    October 2012
  • I stayed 5 nights at Erwin economic room, Erwin and Blanche are very nice people , welcoming and joyful., Blanche was always there for any request.
The room was very good for me , I felt complete privacy, I was sharing the bathroom and the kitchen with only one another guest .
    You really feel at home.
I recommend this room for any one looking for a simple clean nice and economic room .
Just know that it's about one hour or a little bit more by transportation from downtown area, and front water, but the subway and the buses are very regular and rapid.
Some noise of a generator just beside the window, but it was supported.
Thank you Erwin and Blanche so much.
