Located just a few blocks from Prospect Park, Barclays, and all of the delicious food in Brooklyn - AND only one to three train stops from Manhattan, this immaculate, renovated, airy, light and loft-like 1-bedroom is an ideal rental for your NYC stay. LAUNDRY IN THE APARTMENT, AC in living room/kitchen and in the bedroom. Dishwasher, Flat Screen TV, Apple TV, Wi-fi, Queen SIze Bed, and ample Closet Space.
Prospect Park is a haven and a sanctuary after a long day of going, going, going in the greatest city on earth. To live so close to the park is an embarrassment of riches. Plus you have BAM, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and The Brooklyn Museum all within blocks of the apt.
You are also walking distance from a handful of BK's best neighborhoods: Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Crown Heights, Gowanus...
If you are planning to eat out, look no further than directly across the street at Franny's Brooklyn. This is a favorite spot for top chefs around the city. Phenomenal local, seasonal italian - amazing antipasti, pasta and pizza. I don't work there and have no affiliation, but I feel blessed to live so close to this gem. Our favorite bar with a beautiful cocktail list is Weather Up, a five minute walk from the apt in Prospect Heights.
If you're familiar with the subways here, the closest trains are the B/Q at 7th Ave (two blocks away), the 2/3 at Bergen (4 blocks away), and the Atlantic terminal with about 8 trains including the LIRR about a 7 min walk from us.
Key pick up is easy - it's right downstairs!
Trains 1 block away: B,Q
Trains 3 blocks away: 2,3
Trains 6 blocks away: 4,5,2,3,N,R,Q,B,D
No extra sleepover guests or entertaining - despite what it says about the price for an extra guest (this is a design flaw with air b&b), no smoking, no parties. The apartment is only for our paying guests. Respect our downstairs neighbors by keeping music and noise down.
Air conditioner, television, oven are turned off when nobody home.
Password: flatbush - I believe it's all lowercase, if you have trouble try with a capital F or try 'flatbushave'
On the right side of the couch is the modem and wireless, if you need to reset, unplug the large black plug and the apple airport - wait 10-15 seconds and plug the black plug first then the apple (website hidden):
On the left of the couch is a large black remote control. You'll see two power buttons, the one on the left is the 'system power' which will turn on/off both the cable box and TV - that's the one you should use. If either the TV or cable box don't turn on/off, you'll find separate buttons under the power buttons for each component - you can press 'TV' or 'cable' and then the power bottom on the top right of the remote.
Both the cable box and TV will show a blue light when on, please make sure both are off when not in use.
The HD cable channels are 685 - 790, HBO is 651 - 656. You can press the 'guide' button and scroll through the channel listings.
Living room - after you press the main power button, press the 'selector' button - there are 3 green fan lights indicating fan speed - continue to press 'selector' button until the temperature appears for A/C - a setting of 75 should be fine, you can adjust it up or down.
Bedroom AC - press the main power button, you can switch between fan and A/C using the middle button on the left or by using the remote on the bedside table - use the fan speed and temperature controls on the top of the unit or on the remote.
For normal loads put half a cup of Detergent in the far left compartment. You do not need bleach or fabric softener, but you must ONLY use HE (high efficiency) detergent. Put in half a cup and close the compartment. Door must be closed to start wash. Twist the knob to normal wash and press start.
For dryer press the button until it selects "normal" or "casual" and hit start. For heavier loads raise it to high temperature and for small loads choose timed dry.
IMPORTANT for dryer make sure to remove and clean the lint tray after two uses. It slides out of the base of the opening and slides back into place easily.
When the dishwasher is full and you need to do a wash, use the Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent (NOT the Myers soap by the sink). Squeeze detergent into the flap on the inside of the door only 2/3 full. Don't overfill it or the machine will not work properly. Close the door and make sure it clicks. Press "normal wash" and then press "start". It will wash and dry.
Nina and Liam's house is simply wonderful! There are no other words to describe the beautiful, cozy, homey feeling you get immediately when you enter their flat. It truly was a home away from home and we enjoyed our experience immensely. I am just sorry that we didn't have more time to enjoy NYC and the apartment itself. The transportation to and from Manhattan was very convenient, as the Atlantic Terminal station is super close and links to anywhere in Manhattan you want to go to. However, I truly recommend exploring Brooklyn - it will definitely be worthwhile - especially by bike. There is a bike shop just two blocks down from the flat - a great way to see Brooklyn and Manhattan. All in all, a great experience and one to hopefully repeat.
