The Space

Our place is available by the night, or weekly - depending on availability - and can accommodate up to 2 couples, a baby and a child.

It is on the second floor (of 2 floors) of a beautiful, bright, Montreal-style century home (10 ft ceilings, hardwood floors, solidly built - i.e., you probably won't hear the neighbours).
There is an open-concept living-room / dining-room / kitchen, with a balcony. Other features of this open space include a pull-out sofa (sleeps 2, and is extremely comfortable), a skylight, and a piano. The dining room seats 6; also included is a high chair. Our surround-sound stereo system is set up to be hooked up to your laptop/ipad/ipod.

The kitchen is well equipped & comes with a dishwasher, espresso machine, juicer, coffee grinder, slow-cooker, food processor etc. If you feel like staying in and cooking the cupboards are well-stocked with staples, oils, vinegars and spices etc. There's a fantastic butcher/cheese shop that sells local, organic and artisanal meat, cheese and bread an 8-minute walk from our house. The historic Atwater Market (open daily) is a little further but if you want fresh ingredients you can find anything under the sun there. The best Sunday brunch in the neighbourhood is literally around the corner, a 2-minute walk from our house, while the best coffee shop is 6 minutes away.

The brand new large, Eco-certified bathroom also has a skylight and a nice, deep bathtub.
There is a double bedroom with a very comfortable, firm king-size bed; the second half of the room is set up as a nursery, with plenty of toys, and kids' books in English, French and Swedish. There is also a bright, sunny office (printer & computer are available for use upon request), with another balcony off of it, set up for eating outside throughout the warm months.
WIFI and laundry are included; apartment has A/C. There is free street parking right out front.
Our place is across the street from the awesome St Lawrence river/park system with bike trails running for 200 km. Playgrounds galore; splash pad, outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, white water rafting, basket ball courts, kayaking, beach volleyball courts and a dance pavilion are all a short walk away.
Beautiful river walks abound, with a provincial conservation area just down the road by the Lachine rapids, which has been a trading place/meeting spot for the past 6000 years.
At the end of our street is the eclectic and up-and-coming Wellington strip, with restaurants, cafes, shops, fromagerie, bistros, bakeries, tea salons, book stores, affordable drop-in yoga studios etc ...

We are a 10 minute walk to the metro. From there, downtown Montreal is 4 metro stops away. Alternately, BIXI stands (a bike-sharing system) are also a 10 minute walk away, and Old Montreal is a 15-minute bike ride.

If you'd like, we can provide 2 bikes upon request, at 25$ a bike, per stay. Bike pump, helmets and locks also included.

Get the best of outdoor life within our beautiful city!

  • This is a great place to stay in Montreal. Comfortable and quiet, everything you need to feel at home. The king-sized bed is great! The book collection, too. The neighborhood is for locals, not tourists, and these two tourists liked that. The streets shut down at night except for some excellent cafes which we would definitely return to. The river is the key thing in the area and the bike and walking paths well-used. My husband and I walked down to the rapids and finally understood the Lachine Canal. Not to fear, though, if you want lights and action because the metro is not far from the house. Elizabeth and Johan were very responsive via messages and made us feel welcomed.

  • This is a great location for a family with kids. We felt almost at home as the apartment contained everything we needed even including toys for the children to play with.

The neighbourhood has a very nice atmosphere with little stores and cafes just around the corner. To go into Montreal there is a short walk to the subway, and car parking is free on the street in front of the house.

Everything was very well organized by Elizabeth and the communication was always on-time and to the point. We can only give our best recommendations for the accomodation.

  • Great place and location. I strongly recommend this place if you get to Montreal. It is within 15 minuted drive from the downtown core and the entertainment district. In the summer it should be even better because of the park across the street. You cannot go wrong renting this place.

  • Great spacious nicely decorated apartment in a nice quiet neighbourhood on the river, with easy access to downtown, by metro or by car. Lots of free parking right by the house on the street. Many good shops nearby. Even though we've never met Elizabeth, she left detailed instructions, and was very responsive via email when we had an occasional question. The apartment has actually two bedrooms and two balconies, and a very comfortable king-size bed. It's a great base for exploring Montreal!

  • Elizabeth's place is charming, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay including lovely walks along the river just outside the door. Elizabeth gave us lots of good information about the neighbourhood and its highlights. We would stay at Elizabeth's place again in a heartbeat.

  • Elizabeth responded very quickly to my initial inquiry for her place, and was super nice throughout our entire exchange. She even gave me her phone number and email in case of any issues (of which there were none).

The apartment looks even better than in the pictures. The apartment was immaculately clean, smelled wonderful, and was interestingly decorated and brightly lit. There were sky lights in both the main living room area and also above the shower. The bathroom also had these really great smelling cedar shelves that permeated the rest of the house with a clean, refreshing scent.

When we arrived, Elizabeth had left a nice little welcome packet for us on the table with instructions/helpful hints and a hand-drawn map of her neighborhood with recommendations on local sights, restaurants, hospitals, etc. This was really great because our guide did not have anything about the Verdun neighborhood.

The apartment was conveniently located about a block and a half away from the main drag where there were lots of restaurants and shops. The subways were also about a 10 minute walk away.

I would definitely recommend this place to other travelers. This was my first experience with Airbnb, and it was a really positive one!

About
Hi - my husband and I are both musicians. We have a pretty blessed life (or so it feels). We like this way of doing things: the honour system, outside of your generic hotel stay. Small is beautiful.
