Just a short walk to the centre of Portree, Tigh Na Coille, Bed & Breakfast offers quiet, comfortable accommodation with shops, restaurants, pubs, bus station, library, bank and the harbour, all within easy reach.
Tigh Na Coille offers three guest bedrooms; one double, one twin and a single/small double. We can also provide a camp bed for either the double or twin room for an extra guest.
All rooms have access to tea & coffee making facilities and their own TV with digital channels and dvd player.
We do our best to provide comfortable, clean accommodation and offer free internet and safe, secure off-street parking.
Our rooms are NOT en-suite but our two clean, modern bathrooms provide ample facilities to enable easy sharing between the three guest rooms. Guests have a choice between a long, hot soak in our downstairs bathroom or a quick steamy shower in our upstairs shower room. Facilities are checked throughout the day to ensure they are constantly clean and tidy.
Our kitchen area is off limits to guests but we do provide a microwave in our dining area and dinner ware for those who request it. We can also store any food or drinks in our fridge.
Guests are encouraged to help themselves to books, dvds and games that they find in the hallway. We also have extra information about things to do and see on Skye which you can find in the dining room through out the day.
Interaction with Guests
We like to make our guests as relaxed as possible and help in any way we can to make their visit to the Isle of Skye most enjoyable.
Every person is different and we like to think we can tell if our guests want to be left to their own devices or if they need some help from us with regards to getting the most out of their stay on the island.
We are happy to offer suggestions about places of interest or tour guides/trips/walks. Whether you are a keen walker, a food or whisky enthusiast, researching your family history, taking in the museums and castles, or you want to watch the abundant wildlife – it’s all here for the asking in this truly beautiful part of the world.
This is our family home and we live on the premises. We both have jobs and therefore are not available at all times. Guests have their own set of keys and can come and go as they please throughout their stay with us.
We try our best to be flexible with regards to checking in times. We prefer to check in guests after 4pm but are happy for those who need to leave luggage to do so before this time….or even after they have checked out if they are waiting a long time for buses etc.
We have two dogs on the premises but they are never allowed in the guest rooms and we make a conscious effort to keep them behind closed doors whilst our guests are around. They are both very friendly and we are happy to introduce them to any fellow dog lovers.
Anyone travelling to Skye by public transport should try their best to research how they intend to get around on the island as not all places are easily accessible by local bus.
There are car hire companies in Portree and tour guides and taxis. We are more than happy to provide details of each and advise those who are not sure of their options.
Guests should let us know their estimated time of arrival. Check out is by 10am.
Our kitchen is not for guest use but there is a microwave and fridge available to all guests in the guest lounge.
Guests will be provided with keys and are welcome to come and go as they please.
We do ask that whilst exiting and entering our driveway, if the gates are closed please close them again behind you. If they are open then just leave them open.
Excellent place to stay in one of the most beautiful towns in the world, Portree. Emma was great, really enjoyed my stay.
Truely a great base to explore Skye. Emma is wonderful BnB host. Super friendly, warm, and well integrated into the Isle of Skye community. Comfy accommodations with thoughtful amenities such as kettle, coffee, tea, water, in each room. tons of great tourist and historical information on the Island. within a 9-10 min walk to center Portree it's or Local shops, It's a perfect place to stay. Additionally, if you happen to catch the adorable Newfie puppy she occasionally looks after- you may never leave!
Emma of Portree and her Tigh Na Coille B&B: in one word - awesome. Emma was a great host from the start. I kept having to change my arrival times due to the many stops I made on the way from Inverness to Skye to take photos. She welcomed me to the B&B late at night, showed me my very comfortable and perfectly-sized room. She even suggested a great place to grab a late night dinner in Portree (as I was starving and not many spots were still serving dinner by the time I arrived in town). Emma made an excellent and traditional Scottish breakfast both mornings I was there. The other guests in the house (a family from Spain) were great and I enjoyed sharing the space with them. I even joined the family on a nice boat ride one afternoon. I would definitely book with Emma again on a return visit to Skye. Thank you so much for a very memorable experience.
We had really bad luck with the weather - rain and 12 degrees...
We only stayed for one night and were so happy that Emma turned on the heating in August. ;-)
I stayed in this room for five nights while travelling alone on the Isle of Skye. This room is one of three B&B rooms in the house and was a delight to stay in. Although small, the room is cozy, nicely decorated and offers plenty of storage space. There is also a common room/dining room with couches, microwave and mini-fridge for guest use. Emma has accumulated a number of tourist guides and books on Skye and Scotland more generally which I found very helpful when planning the next stages of my trip. The dining room is also where breakfast is served each morning. The table was nicely set each morning and I looked forward to the home-cooked breakfast each day. Another much appreciated detail was the kettle, tea and coffee which Emma provided in the room.
The house has two bathrooms - one with a stand up shower and another with a bathtub, and although I worried a little about having to wait in the morning for bathroom access, my worry was unfounded as I was here for five nights and did not find anyone tripping over one another in the mornings.
The house is also very conveniently located, a ten minute walk (if that) to the town square and bus drop off.
Emma was a gracious and attentive host and I would highly recommend this room to other solo travelers.
I spent a full week at Emma's home and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a surprisingly large private property, surrounded by lush plants, woods, and a stream with picturesque bridge. Emma was very friendly, above and beyond helpful, months ahead of my actual arrival. The room was comfortable and the guests' living/dining area was large and pleasant with our own small fridge, which I used on a daily basis. The two bathrooms were quite adequate for handling a full house. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone and hope to return myself one day!

I have been a bit of a worldwide traveller in my time but still haven't visited everything on my wish list. A lot of places I have been to I want to go back to again - Argentina & New Zealand are definitely up there.
I often visit America and have some great friends there, especially in New Orleans and Washington state. I usually go over every year to visit and get away for the Scottish winter!
My dogs are a big part of my life and I love them to bits.....too much apparently, but they are adorable and make me laugh. I have an English Springer Spaniel (Myla) and a red and white Irish Setter (Rudy). They are never allowed in the guest rooms and are kept to our own private rooms when we have people staying with us.
I have worked in the Portree tourist information centre for five seasons and am more than happy to help anyone needing some ideas or wanting to plan a certain trip or walk. If guests have everything figured out for their time on Skye and just need a place to lay their heads in between sight seeing then we are more than happy to leave them to it and be there if they need anything else.
We just like our guests to feel comfortable and happy whilst staying in our home.
