LOCATION: We are located in the HEART of the city of San Francisco. The location is KEY in the center of great food, cafés, shopping, transportation, farmer's markets, the very popular Dolores Park, Hipsterville and a great neighborhood vibe! The San Francisco Bay Area attracts millions of tourists every year and is known for its varied cuisine, panoramic views, scenic drives, music, museums, and especially for its diverse, cosmopolitan population. For GuideBook, please see listing -The Urban Oasis SF.*
TRANSPORTATION: MUNI, BART, Golden Gate Transit: San Francisco public transportation is world class, just like the city itself. You can get just about anywhere in the SF Bay Area on the public transit system. Just ask and I'll let you know how to get there, but in any case maps will be provided! Cars can also easily be rented from nearby car rental agencies. The Old Fashioned Street Car runs right out in front. The J Church runs on the cross street Church. There's the K L M T underground subway lines within a few block radius and the 22 and 33 bus lines one block away in either direction.
A taxi from the airport is approximately $40 -$50 one way depending how much you tip.
2 Hour Street Parking is available M-F. Evenings & weekends there's no time limit, but check signs for street cleaning.
CLIMATE & WEATHER: As Mark Twain once said" The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Which doesn't mean that we don't have good weather or warm days, but the best policy is: if you're prepared for the worst, then you'll always be pleasantly surprised! It's just gets really windy as the day progresses and we are known for relentless fog, but more so if you're staying near the coast. Don't go toward the beach unless it's really really hot and you'll be OK I promise! Always pack an umbrella, a windbreaker and a few extra long-sleeved, layers just to be on the safe side! The neighboring, Dolores Park is actually our "urban beach" anyway because it's a big, huge park with a whole lot of activities for the whole family from soccer, tennis, basketball, and a playground for the little-ones to live performances, festivals, and concerts or just plain old partying, bbq's and having a great time with a group of friends on a beautiful day :)
SF & BAY AREA EVENTS INFO:
You can pick up a free SF Weekly or SF Guardian newspaper on just about any corner in the city to find out about night life or online to find a variety of events info as well. There are more than plenty of diverse cultural events, music, art, dance, open mikes, sports, nature/outdoor, nightlife, etc. and there is something here for everybody! SF is a very vibrant, cosmopolitan and internationally recognized city for it's array of cultural diversity, architecture, unique history and of course, liberal politics. (*Just a side note: our neighbor, Dennis Peron, an activist and former partner of Harvey Milk who lives a few doors down with the Buddha painted on his garage door, authored Proposition 215: medical marijuana fyi :-) Tours can be arranged of his very "San Francisco style" home. He was also featured in the film "Milk' with Sean Penn, who also lives in the North Bay among other actors such as Robin Williams and Creator of Star Wars- George Lucas).

Christina and Hector were wonderful hosts! The apartment is beautifully decorated and in a great location. My boyfriend and I really appreciated Christina and Hector's recommendations about what sights to check out and how to get there. The trolley stops right in front of their apartment and they are just a few blocks from the train station, so it's super convenient to get just about anywhere in the Bay Area. Plus, they are a short walk to Dolores Park and Tartine Bakery, so you can watch adorable dogs play and then go eat a ton of quiche.
Great place to stay in San Francisco. Excellent location in the Mission. Colorful neighborhood with plenty of restaurants, shops, a park, many other sights and nearby public transport to visit other parts of town. This is the place to be if you want to explore the city.
The room I had is very nice. The picture says it all :). Kitchen, bathroom all OK!
Finally, the host. Perfect! We had some nice chats in the evening, Xtina was always there to give advice and recommendations and since I arrived later than expected, Xtina picked me up at the Bart station, with a cold beer ready to go.
A lovely, warm and cozy place this is!
Walking into The Urban Oasis was like walking into home. We were made feel very welcome from the word go. Xtina has a fantastically detailed knowledge of the local area and went out of her way to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I stayed with Hector and Christina for five months - and I loved it! They are wonderful hosts and they help you with everything you need from pointing out good restaurants to helping out with practical stuff. There are lots of interesting discussions, music and food in the apartment when you feel like it - but also room for privacy. The apartment is very nice, the kitchen has everything you need and my room was spacious and quiet. The setting in Mission/Castro is in my opinion one of the best in SF. I already miss both the place and Hector and Christina - I can only give The Urban Oasis my highest recommendations:) (And Christina and Hector - you're always welcome in Copenhagen!)
Xtina was really great as a host. Everything about our stay was really great. Communication was clear and quick, and the room is just too cute! I would definitely stay here again.
The (front) room at the 'Urban Oasis' charmed me from the very moment I walked in! Not only was it colorful and spacious, it was also very traveller-friendly (comfy bed, various lights and places to sit, plenty of space for personal belongings). The rest of the apartment was equally lovely and despite shared faciities – I was a bit concerned about the single toilet and one (separate) bathroom for the entire apt – I never had to wait, everything was nice and clean and not at all noisy.
Xtina (and Hector) are super hosts; I was immediately made to feel welcome and they were always friendly, helpful, flexible throughout my 6-day stay.
The location/neighborhood is absolutely a major plus factor as well: safe, central, good public transportation and shops/restaurants/cafés close by... I'd definitely recommend to others!

About the Host, Xtina
Greetings from The Urban Oasis SF! I have been living in the beautiful, diverse, cosmopolitan city of San Francisco for over 18 years. I am a proud, California native and have been living in my funky SF flat for over a decade now. I am a lover of arts & culture, in particular, Caribbean music, dance and cuisine. Born and raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, Hector is a gifted musician, teacher and chef. With his original, traditional and popular sound, he leads his own band called La Mixta Criolla, which you can find on itunes. We love meeting and hosting people from all over the world. Since 2010, we have hosted more than 200 guests from more than 20 different countries. We truly appreciate the wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded folks and create amazing connections from all over the globe! In addition to being a superhost, last year I was featured in Airbnb's 'Why Host' Campaign on Airbnb tv, and was recently interviewed on the local news for being one of the city's most active hosts. Ideally, we want to show our guests a great time, break bread, share wonderful conversations to learn about you and where you come from! I take great pride in my home and make every attempt to keep it updated, beautiful and aesthetically pleasing for everyone. From Europe to Asia, South America to Canada, come over and experience "The Urban Oasis SF" for yourselves! We have a warm, friendly, multicultural vibe and environmentally-conscious home awaiting you! So don't wait to book, it's especially popular during high season (March-November). My motto is: "If I can't see the whole world, then at least I can bring the world to me." :) We strive to minimize our impact on this earth as much as humanly possible. PLEASE RECYCLE & REUSE! DON'T BUY THINGS YOU DON'T REALLY NEED. BE CONSCIOUS ABOUT YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT and EDUCATE YOURSELF on how you, too can minimize, lessen your carbon footprint and live simpler, happier, healthier and more consciously!!! Madre Tierra THANKS YOU :)
