This was our sanctuary after long days of touring Florence. There are 50 stairs to climb but the view is worth it. The apartment is furnished with Italian antiques and art with a spacious feeling. The living room windows open out to the scenic street below. The street can be noisy at times, but it brings the flavor of Florence to your doorstep. The Santa Croce Basilica is the view from the living room windows. Two of the bedrooms are in the back of the apartment sheltered from the street noise. I was impressed how clean the apartment was. And it has all the amenities one could desire. I do recommend bringing socks or slippers since the tile floors do feel cold. My son and I stayed here in April and needed to turn on the heaters. The upstairs loft office/bedroom stays warm, but the back bedrooms are cooler. There is an extra charge for utilities. If you like clean with charm, and a central location, then this is the place for you. Walking from the Florence Santa Maria Novella train station takes 20 scenic minutes, or a 8 euro taxi ride. The host lives close by and was available for questions and a prompt flexible check-in and check-out. A few highlights from our visit to Florence was eating the famous Fiorentine bistecca steak at Trattoria ZaZa (http://(email hidden)/English/) and taking a break from the crowds on the Cinque Terre Trek with Walkabout Florence Tours ((website hidden)).
Staying in the Leoni's Santa Croce apartment was the highlight of our 11-day stay in Florence. As the title states, it really is Wonderful. We felt like we were truly living in Italy. The apartment is roomy, cozy, comfortable, and perfectly located to all of the historic sites. There are wonderful tiny streets nearby with charming trattorias and wine shops. Right across the street is the magnificent Santa Croce basilica. We so enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen. And Mauro's dad, Guiliano, was so helpful and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
I was there for nearly 2 months, and I really enjoyed being in this flat - a huge thankyou to Giulaino and Caterina who were charming and helpful. The bed space was less than advertised, because of a muddle up over 'Queen' sized beds, also the head heights on the 2 sleeping platforms really were low. The appartment is in a wonderful position in an ancient building, full of character - much to be recommended.
Anyone looking to stay in Florence, look no further! This was my fifth time in the city and this was the best apartment we've ever stayed in. The apartment was brilliant - even bigger in real life than in the photos. The beds were firm and comfy and the showers were nice and strong. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner (after trips to the nearby market). And it's in the perfect location, literally next door to Santa Croce and really close to all of the major sights.
Mauro's father, Giuliano, pointed out where the nearby were and the best local restaurants (where we wouldn't get ripped off). He was an absolute sweetheart.
Our three children and us had a wonderful stay at Mauro's flat. This is a spacious and picturesque family flat holding a lot of history. The location was fantastic as we could easily walk to all the places of interest very easily, but also as the neighbourhood is quite residential with its own life.
Mauro's Dad, Giuliano came to greet us, explained everything in detail, and had even thought of sharing some DVDs for the kids.
We shall definetly return !
The apartment was fabulous. It was located in a great part of Florence with a view of the street scenic that was the most enjoyable part of our (website hidden) is across the street from Santa Croce, the resting place of Michelangelo, DaVinci, Dante and others. It was especially clean and well appointed. Mauro and his wife take great pride in the apartment and should do so. It is everything the ad claims, and more. The only limitation is that it is on the third floor in a building without an elevator.
We had a wonderful week in Mauro's apartment in late September / early October. Giuliano, his father, was incredibly responsive to our every need -- including changing a restaurant reservation for me after my own phone had stopped functioning. The apartment is very comfortable and attractive, and we were within walking distance of almost every major attraction in Florence. We did take the bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo! I highly recommend Mauro's apartment and look forward to the time when we can return.
My family of 6 stayed here for 5 nights at the end of September. Unlike many other rental apartments, this one felt like home with beautiful furniture, comfortable beds, and plenty of space. Being very close to the Santa Croce piazza, there was (email hidden)ly atmosphere, but the windows did a great job of blocking out the noise when you wanted to sleep.
The kitchen was perfect for our at-home meals. Plenty of space for cooking, a nice breakfast table, and surplus of pans/utensil.
The location is perfect -- very close to all of historical Florence, and and also just a few minutes from the Sant Ambrogio market if you want to do some cooking.
Finally, Giulano's warm hospitality was so evident from the first handshake to his last words as he sent us in our taxi to the train station. He spent time explaining every detail in the apartment, mapping out his favorite restaurants, and providing suggestions for our itinerary.
Thank you Mauro for letting us stay in your home. We will be back the next time we are in Tuscany/Florence. Ciao!
We had Guliano and his lovely wife Caterina look after us and we had a great stay. The apartment is in a very handy location with santa Croce just across the way. The standard electrical plugs are the small 3 pronged type, not the standard 2 large prong for a lot of Italy, but there were adapters for our plugs in the apartment. The beds were comfortable, but a little smaller than we were used to. There was welcome wine and fruit for us and really Guliano could not have been more helpful.
