Welcome to Locanda del Papa!!
Our house is located in countryside, totally surrounded by nature, inside the Cinque Terre Park but away from the crowded villages. For more details and before to book the room please read our description. Ciao!!
Do you like to stay in the countryside, in the middle of the nature, completely surrounded by greenery ?
Our house was an ancient share cropping farm of 1600, totally renovated in 2005.
Today it comprises 25 magnificent acres of land and woods.
The farm inn Locanda del Papa is located in the ancient Commune of Carpena, on the hills behind the Cinque Terre( Riomaggiore ), a few feet from the Foce Pass, from where the view extends to La Spezia and the area contained between Portovenere and Lerici called the Gulf of Poets.
There is no problem with parking, since the property is totally enclosed and the access road is entered through a gate.
There are available six rooms with queen-sized beds. In the three largest rooms extra beds may be added.
All rooms have private bath , TV and wi fi internet connection ( in the room)
In winter the rooms are heated from a central furnace assuring the maximum comfort and in the largest rooms there are also wood stoves with visible flames.
In the summer there is no need of air conditioning. Nature provides it with its cool evening breeze.

WOW!!! I have never felt more welcome and better taken care of in my life. David is truly the kindest person I have ever met - he and his wife Roberta went above and beyond to ensure that we had an incredible stay, and even more than that, they made sure we had an excellent time in La Spezia and Cinque Terre. David picked us up from the train station and kindly drove us into the city later that day to get to Cinque Terre along with the next day. His wife even drove us to the train station very early in the morning to catch our train to our flight on the last day which was incredibly kind and unexpected. David also helped us with any and every question we had about the region - where to go and what to do.
The property itself is magnificent! It's a 400 year old house with a farm. Absolute perfect countryside and relaxation to end our 10 day trip around Italy. It was such a nice break from all the tourist-crammed cities we visited. Each day we were given an incredible fresh breakfast. David and Roberta make their own homemade jams and olive oil (unbelievably fresh and delicious!!!) which we later bought several jars of for family back home. Also their two kittens are adorable!
It was easy to get to Cinque Terre from the La Spezia train station. We bought a 2-day train pass and it takes you to all of the 5 towns, all within 15 minutes. The towns themselves are quaint and breathtakingly gorgeous. We spent a whole day at the beach in Monterosso and although we only had 2 days in the region we had such an amazing time.
Can't wait to go back to Cinque Terre and stay with David at Locanda del Papa again!!!
David and Roberta made us feel so welcomed, like family, truly going so out of their way to help us enjoy our stay. Every positive review I read of this listing is spot on. I was so excited to get home and write this review and I hope that everyone gets the chance to see the gorgeous countryside of La Spezia/Cinque Terre and stay at Locanda del Papa.
We had a very quick stay at Roberta and David's. But it was a lovely one. Great spacious room, warm and cozy. Comfortable bed and great breakfast. We will definitely be back when the sun out and shining. Thank you for everything!
What a wonderful experience staying with David: one of the most memorable travel experiences for me! It is such a beautiful place, not far from the city yet a little village in itself, and David or Roberta offered us a lift every morning, even to the hill ridge (Telegrafo), which says everything about them: how good and caring they are. And it is such a pleasure to talk with them and know more about farming, Italy's customs, and politics and economy. The trattoria in the village is also such a heartwarming place, just like everything about David and Roberta's place is. Wonderful breakfasts, and great hike from the doorstep of David's place to Riomaggiore!
We have never met anyone as friendly as David! He is the nicest guy in the world! We stayed for two nights in a beautiful room. Location was calm and beautiful. It was a great starting point for our Cinque Terre excursions. We felt very safe. The breakfast is delicious. Roberta was so friendly, too (you must try her AMAZING jam at breakfast). Overall an outstanding experience.
Gerne wieder!
The place (room) itself is simple, everything needed there. The place is special because of David and Roberta! They really love what they do and one can see it every step being there. It felt also that special people attract special guest - we were staying there in the same time with a very nice Welsh couple who took our 1.5y old son to see chicken in one morning, just that we could enjoy our breakfast. Who does that?! :) It was very much appreciated!
As everyone have already said- breakfast IS delicious and David and Roberta really make everything to please you.
The surrounding is beautiful to hike or drive. You can not get bored of mountains.
Also try the trattoria David recommends. The older man was such a wonderful person. Even though my lack of italian we were able to talk about music, composers, weather....everything. And this nice lady over there who made tiramisu extra for my begging. Unbelievably nice!
Locanda del Papa (and David's super wine and beer) is in our heart and we still think back to it very often.
Thank you so much for everything! It was memorable!
