Accommodation near Cinque Terre, in the middle of nature completely surrounded by greenery.
It was an ancient share cropping farm of 1600, totally renovated in 2005.
Today it comprises 25 magnificent acres of land and woods.
We are completely surrounded by greenery, do you like to stay in the countryside ?
The farm inn Locanda del Papa is located in the ancient Commune of Carpena, on the hills behind the Cinque Terre( Riomaggiore ), a few feet from the Foce Pass, from where the view extends to La Spezia and the area contained between Portovenere and Lerici called the Gulf of Poets.
There is no problem with parking, since the property is totally enclosed and the access road is entered through a gate.
I know that many of you wish to visit the Cinque Terre. Well, this is the ideal place. We are 6 km from the La Spezia RR Station and the train is the best means of reaching the Cinque Terre (it takes 8 minutes to Riomaggiore and the Via dell'Amore (Lovers Lane).
We are also 7 km from the embarkation point of the passenger boats that in the summer visit all the towns along the Gulf of Poets and the Cinque Terre.
By car you can reach many places. We are 15 km from Monterosso and 20 km from Riomaggiore in the Cinque Terre. La Spezia is very close with its famous naval museum and civic museum Amedeo Lia. Portovenere, designated by UNESCO in 1997 a World Heritage Site, is only 16 km away from our House. Lerici, with its enchanted bay and its beaches certified “Bandiera Blu” (Blue Flag) for their cleanliness is only 12 km away.
Tellaro, designated one of the 100 most beautiful small towns of Italy is 4 km from Lerici.
There are available six rooms with queen-sized beds. In the three largest rooms extra beds may be added.
All rooms have private bath , TV and wi fi internet connection ( in the room)
In winter the rooms are heated from a central furnace assuring the maximum comfort and in the largest rooms there are also wood stoves with visible flames.
In the summer there is no need of air conditioning. Nature provides it with its cool evening breeze.
We were so sad to drive away from this farmhouse. it's heaven on earth. Roberta and David are the best hosts. Not only knowledgeable on the area and most helpful, but you can tell they are sincerely enjoying what they are doing and love meeting people.
After a long hike in the beautiful area of Cinque Terre, we returned to try David's homemade wheat beers and went to our room and were received with a crackling fire. Breakfast included homemade pastries and fresh eggs from their chickens as well as homemade jams and cheese. I cannot recommend this place enough. It would be best experienced with a car and we enjoyed a beautiful drive through the mountains from Modena to arrive at a rather precarious driveway that leads to an idyllic lifestyle. Thanks David and Roberta. We love your place!

We spent 5 nights at David and Robertas wonderful B&B. We were very glad to stay there and the warm, welcoming and cosy atmosphere combined with a nice, clean room and a fantastic breakfast made our holiday remarkable !
We had a lot of good advice about walking in the Cinque Terre area, which is a magnificent place. David was also ready for giving ideas for dinner and the 3 nearest restaurants, which we tried was very, very good ! It is absolutely a good idea to bring a car, but the hiking path is nearby and the restaurants as well ! We definitely hope to come back one day !
David and Roberta have set a very high bar for other B and B's. I honestly cannot imagine hosts more congenial, helpful, caring, amusing, kind, and generous of spirit and time. Locanda del Papa is everything all reviewers have stated and much, much more. The facilities are outstanding, the breakfasts large and delicious, and the company superb. Their assistance in identifying medical assistance for my wife was more than kind and enabled us to proceed with our vacation. We look forward to visiting again, and, more than that, to welcoming David, Roberta, and Francesco to our own home.
We had a lovely stay at Locanda del Papa: luxurious late morning breakfasts, a wonderful view from our bedroom window into a tranquil valley, playing with the kitten and good pizzas in the village pizzeria only 300m away. But the best thing is to come "home" after a day of exploring the surroundings and discussing our day with David and a glass of local wine. The perfect start to our holidays!
The surroundings are beautiful: Cinque Terre and Porto Venere are nice and our best day was to hike from the B&B to Riomaggiore.
It was such a pleasure meeting Dan. This was my first time visiting Italy, and Dan embodied the warm, accommodating spirit I was hoping to encounter.
Always smiling, Dan was patient and helpful as he helped me negotiate the Cinque Terre/La Plezia area.
The space he provided was clean and cozy. The morning breakfasts were top notch, including some of the best coffee I had in Europe.
Dans property is nestled away nicely. Don't worry though, there's a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant within a 4 minute walk. From his property, it's a short trip to La Plezia where you can buy a day pass to take the train to all of the 5 cities.
Despite my limited Italian, Dan provided great communication throughout my stay.
I highly recommend Dan and hope to return one day to visit.
Just spent two weeks travelling around Italy and this was my favorite accommodation and region. David and his wife are incredibly kind and helpful, and David's English is quite good. We were served breakfast and provided with a ride into town every morning! We were also picked up at the train station, and easily taught how to use the train, taxis, and buses to get around the region and back to Locanda. There are two spots to eat within walking distance and both a pretty good. What really makes this place great however, other than the kind and helpful hosts, is that the scenery at Locanda is incredible! Highly recommended. Thanks David!
Our stay with David and Roberta was absolutely awesome! It was such a fantastic experience and my only regret was that we did not stay there more nights (we only stayed one). David and Roberta were incredibly accommodating (picked up/dropped off from La Spezia Centrale) and incredibly friendly people. My girlfriend and I spent most of our time on the patio/terrace in the picture just taking in the view and the beautiful weather. I would definitely recommend staying here, and would love to go back again someday!
Amazing place! every bit as good as the pictures, and even better once you get there, get out of the car and breath the fresh air filled with all kind of wonderful smells, look at the hills around you and hear the amazing silence of the hillside. David is great, very friendly and quite helpful. Gave us all the instructions and tips on getting where we wanted to go. rooms are spacious and clean, and breakfast is delicious (very traditional italian breakfast - pastry and coffee). Wish we could have stayed more. If you are looking for a place to relax, clear you mind, but having a chance for a quick access to all the tourist attractions of the region, this is definitely the place to go! thanks, David!
David and Roberta were wonderful hosts! They really make you feel at home and are eager to help you with the planning of your time in the area. All of their recommendations were spot-on. The room was beautiful with high ceilings and the breakfast was to die for. Of our two week long road trip through France and Italy, this was by far the best place that we stayed! We look forward to going back some day!
