About this listing
Conveniently located in the historical neighborhood of Victorian Old Louisville, we live within an 8 minute bike ride to U of L and Downtown. Make our spacious, 120 year-old home your home base for sightseeing, conferences, sporting events and more!
This hand-welded bicycle wheel gate was made by a friend. As you can see, the back parking lot is in need of paving. There is plenty of room for parking, though.
This 1200 square foot first floor apartment will put you in the heart of Louisville's historic district. We live within an easy walk of coffee shops, a bakery, parks, and restaurants. Historical, urban, diverse, yet "feels like home" are some of the many ways guests have described our neighborhood.
The apartment has one bedroom with a full bed and a couch. If you need more sleeping room, there are two additional couches in the living room and a surprisingly comfy twin-size air mattress. Clean sheets, blankets, and bath towels are provided.
Check-in / Check-out
If the apartment isn't booked by another guest on the same day that you're arriving or leaving, you can get here as early or leave as late as you want. We will be happy to work with your schedule. We will give you a code to the building, so there is no need to worry about meeting us in advance. Just let yourself in and make yourself at home!
We have lived in Old Louisville for over 10 years, so we know our community well. While we will certainly respect your schedule and privacy needs, we are excited to share our city with you! If you're up for an urban adventure, let us help you tailor your visit according to your interests.
Guests will have access to the entire 1st floor apartment, which includes:
- Full kitchen w/ breakfast table
- Dining room
- Bedroom w/ bed, couch, tv, and closet
- Living room w/ two couches and air mattress if needed.
Interaction with Guests
We always love to meet our guests, but we try not to be intrusive or overbearing. Additionally, we love making recommendations, so please ask!
We love Old Louisville. Our home is situated within blocks of five major bus lines. It's safe and easy to navigate on foot, plus bike lanes connect downtown with the university. Most of Louisville's crown jewels are within a 3-5 mile radius, including Churchill Downs, Museum Row, Nulu, as well as convention centers, theaters, sports complexes and award-winning restaurants. In fact, most of the locations featured in Apartment Therapy's Destination Guide are within an easy 10-15 minute bike ride.
The neighborhood is definitely urban. There's an eclectic mix of houses, a few restaurants, and people from all walks of life.
Within half a block (under 5-minute walk)
• Ermin's Bakery (coffee, breakfast pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches for lunch)
Within a few blocks (5-10 minute walk)
• Amici's Italian Café (Italian-American food, full bar, patio)
• Mag Bar (neighborhood bar)
• Smokey's Beans (coffee shop & sandwiches)
• Scheller's Grocery (the basics)
• 610 Magnolia (upscale restaurant; Chef Edward Lee; reservations required)
• Buck's Restaurant (fine dining, romantic atmosphere and gourmet cuisine; reservations required)
• Taste of China (hits the spot. Customer service could be better, but then again, it's just carryout. Also offers free delivery).
Within Old Louisville (10-20 minute walk)
• The Tavern (pub food)
• Granville Inn (pub food, pizza, beer, pool tables, full bar - great place to watch a game)
• Burger Boy (open 24/7)
• Qdoba Mexican Grill
• Quills Coffee (nice atmosphere, popular with students)
• Comfy Cow Ice Cream (try the bourbon ice cream!)
• Green Leaf Natural Vegetarian Bistro
• Dizzy Whizz (diner-style cafe)
• Ollie's Trolley (legacy of Harland Sanders' brief foray into the hamburger business. Unique -- try the fries).
We're within 10 minutes of U of L and downtown by car, bike, or bus. It's a nice walk to the University. Guests often find that it's more convenient to leave their car here and take the bus ($1.75 for a 3-hour pass) than to look for parking at U of L or downtown.
Other Things to Note
If you're new to AirBnB, please take a few minutes to verify your email, real ID, some form of social media, and one or more pictures.
You will be renting the 1st floor of a 120+ year old building. It was originally built for a vice-president at Louisville Bank. It's not as grand or elaborate as some of the Victorian mansions nearby, but it has a unique flair that we love.
As is typical for older buildings, maintenance is ongoing. There are cosmetic irregularities you should expect. For example, we need to do some painting -- trim, baseboards, and walls. The kitchen and bathroom floors need to be replaced -- they're fine, just outdated. There are few slats of inlaid flooring that need to be replaced. The laundry room needs new drywall. The back door sticks a little. These are relatively minor and our guests have never complained about these things, but we want to be forthcoming with this information.
Additionally, the house across the street is undergoing renovations after a fire. We wanted to mention this so you won't be concerned when you roll into town and see a boarded up house nearby.
Our neighbors are generally quiet, although the college students in the area can get rambunctious. You shouldn't be able to hear them in the bedroom, but if you're a particularly light sleeper, the box fan provides enough white noise to help you sleep.
Our neighbors are real estate agents, factory workers, college students, doctors, retirees, professors, unemployed, office workers, caterers, etc. If you've never lived in a city before, you may want to check out the street view option to get a feel for the neighborhood. One point of pride for us is that that we live in one of the most racially and economically diverse parts of the entire city. We have a mixture of mansions, condos, and apartments nearby. You won't find a more diverse population anywhere in Louisville. This has been our home for over ten years, and we can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.
Smoking is not permitted.
Candles are not permitted. (It's an old building, and we just cannot take the risk of fire.)
Pets are not permitted. (While other tenants in the building have small pets, the 1st floor apartment is strictly pet-free.)
Food: The kitchen will be stocked with coffee and tea, plus a few small things for breakfast and snacks. Please help yourself.
Toiletries: We will put out a clean bath towel, hand towel, and wash cloth for each person registered. Most people bring their own shampoo, conditioner, and soap, but if you forget, we have amassed quite a collection from previous guests that you can borrow.
Keys: A few days before your arrival, we will send you the building access code so you can let yourself in and pick up the key. Please do not give out the building code. When you depart, leave the key where you picked it up (this will help us know when you're gone so we can prep the space for our next guest).
Please do not bring in any other people unless we know up front. We expect our guests to not be a bother to other tenants and neighbors. No Loud parties or other antisocial behavior.
Like the dining room, the living room gets excellent evening light. Guests have told us that they found this room perfect for curling up with a book and cup of tea.
Mary Beth and Eric were great hosts - very easy check in and check out, space was clean and well-maintained, everything was great and exceeded expectations.
Mary Beth and Eric had everything ready for us even before our official check in time. The apartment was exactly as it was represented - quiet, comfortable and cozy. We love Old Louisville and think that anyone who does would love staying here! We hope to stay here again as we go to Louisville at least yearly to see dear friend who lives just 7 doors down! They really exceeded our expectations with the snacks and breakfast food they provided! A very nice noted greeted us! Wish we could have met them, but we stayed on the move the whole time we were there! We loved it!!!

Mary Beth and Eric were terrific hosts. The gave me detailed, easy-to-follow instructions on checking into the apartment. The place is lovely, with high ceilings and charming decor inspired by old Louisville charm. There is a cozy garden in the backyard that is nice for have a glass of wine in the evening. They left the bathroom and kitchen well stocked with supplies, and even had fresh baked cookies waiting for us when we checked in! The location is super easy to get downtown by driving, walking or bus. Thanks so much to you both!
Eric and Mary Beth were great! They were very welcoming and provided lots of ideas for things to do while we were in town. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed.
Mary Beth and Eric have a beautiful apartment in a great location in Louisville! Unfortunately we were only staying one night, but I would like to come back someday and would certainly stay here again.
