This hand-welded bicycle wheel gate was made by a friend. As you can see, the back parking lot is in need of paving. There is plenty of room for parking, though.Like the dining room, the living room gets excellent evening light. Guests have told us that they found this room perfect for curling up with a book and cup of tea.

The space

This 1200 square foot first 1st floor apartment has everything you need for your stay in Louisville.

Check-in / Check-out
If the apartment isn't booked by another guest on the same day that you're arriving or leaving, you can get here as early or leave as late as you want. We will be happy to work with your schedule. We will give you a code to the building, so there is no need to worry about meeting us in advance. Just let yourself in and make yourself at home!

We have lived in Old Louisville for over 10 years, so we know our community well. While we will certainly respect your schedule and privacy needs, we are excited to share our city with you! If you're up for an urban adventure, let us help you tailor your visit according to your interests.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the entire 1st floor apartment, which includes:
- Kitchen w/ breakfast table (if you need additional pots, pans, etc, just ask!)
- Dining room
- Bedroom w/ bed, couch, and closet
- Bathroom
- Living room w/ two couches and air mattress if needed.

Interaction with guests

We always love to meet our guests, but we try not to be intrusive or overbearing. Additionally, we love making recommendations, so please ask!

The neighborhood

We love Old Louisville. Our home is situated within blocks of five major bus lines. It's safe and easy to navigate on foot, plus bike lanes connect downtown with the university. Most of Louisville's big attractions are within a 3-5 mile radius, including Churchill Downs, Museum Row, Nulu, as well as convention centers, theaters, sports complexes and restaurants.

The neighborhood is primarily urban residential with single-family and multi-unit houses. There's mix of houses, a few restaurants, and people from all walks of life.

Within half a block (under 5-minute walk)
• Toonerville Deli / Old Louisville Pizza ( soups, salads, sandwiches during the day, pizza at night)
• Seafood Lady (incredible shrimp...)

Within a few blocks (5-10 minute walk)
• Amici's Italian Café (Italian-American food, full bar, patio)
• Mag Bar (neighborhood bar, does not serve food)
• Pizza Donisi (delivers; also delivers to Mag Bar)
• Scheller's Grocery
• 610 Magnolia (upscale restaurant; Chef Edward Lee; reservations required)
• Buck's Restaurant (fine dining, romantic atmosphere and gourmet cuisine; reservations required)
• Taste of China (hits the spot. Customer service could be better, but then again, it's just carryout. Also offers free delivery).

Within Old Louisville (10-20 minute walk)
• The Old Louisville Tavern (great pub food, beer selection, outdoor seating)
• Granville Inn (pub food, pizza, beer, pool tables, full bar)
• Burger Boy (open 24/7)
• Qdoba Mexican Grill
• Quills Coffee (nice atmosphere, popular with students)
• Comfy Cow Ice Cream (try the bourbon ice cream!)
• Green Leaf Natural Vegetarian Bistro
• Dizzy Whizz (diner-style cafe)
• Ollie's Trolley (legacy of Harland Sanders' brief foray into the hamburger business. Unique -- try the fries).

Getting around

We're within 10 minutes of U of L and downtown by car, bike, or bus. It's a nice walk to the University. Guests often find that it's more convenient to leave their car here and take the bus ($1.75 for a 3-hour pass) than to look for parking at U of L or downtown.

Other things to note

If you're new to AirBnB, please take a few minutes to verify your email, real ID, some form of social media, and one or more pictures.

You will be renting the 1st floor of a 120+ year old building. As is typical for older buildings, maintenance is ongoing. There are cosmetic irregularities you should expect. For example, we need to do some painting -- trim, baseboards, and walls. The kitchen and bathroom floors need to be replaced -- they're fine, just outdated. There are few slats of inlaid flooring that need to be replaced. The laundry room needs new drywall. The back door sticks a little. These are relatively minor and our guests have never complained about them, but we want to be forthcoming with this information.

Our neighbors are generally quiet, but there are the typical noises associated with an urban area. The fan in the bedroom provides enough white noise for light sleepers.

Our neighbors are real estate agents, factory workers, college students, doctors, retirees, professors, unemployed, office workers, caterers, etc. If you've never lived in a city before, you may want to check out the street view option to get a feel for the neighborhood. One point of pride for us is that that we live in one of the most racially and economically diverse parts of the entire city. We have a mixture of mansions, condos, and apartments nearby. You won't find a more diverse population anywhere in Louisville. This has been our home for over ten years, and we can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

No parties or events
Check in time is flexible

Smoking is not permitted.

Candles are not permitted. (It's an old building, and we just cannot take the risk of fire.)

Pets are not permitted. (While other tenants in the building have small pets, the 1st floor apartment is strictly pet-free.)

Food: The kitchen will be stocked with coffee and tea, plus a few small things for breakfast and snacks. Please help yourself.

Toiletries: We will put out a clean bath towel, hand towel, and wash cloth for each person registered. Most people bring their own shampoo, conditioner, and soap, but if you forget, we have amassed quite a collection from previous guests that you can use.

Keys: A few days before your arrival, we will send you the building access code so you can let yourself in and pick up the key. Please do not give out the building code. When you depart, leave the key where you picked it up.

Please do not bring in any other people unless we know up front. We expect our guests to not be a bother to other tenants and neighbors. No loud parties or other antisocial behavior.

Mary Beth and Eric's was the perfect stop for us as we finished up our journey through the bourbon trail. Their place was very spacious and clean. They left many basic supplies for use, which was so nice. The neighborhood was very cool, we walked around to look at all the old, beautiful houses in the area. We would definitely stay again!

It really did feel like home away from home. A lovely space with thoughtful touches throughout, super simple check-in, terrific neighborhood, and responsive hosts. We enjoyed Seafood Lady around the corner and breakfast sandwiches at the Toonerville. Nice neighborhood for walking. Convenient to the University of Louisville. Good coffee in the morning, my favorite perk! Highly recommended.

Mary Beth and Eric's apartment is spacious and comfortable, with a well-stocked larder, a great, bike-friendly location, and terrific communications before and after check-in. I look forward to returning on subsequent trips through the area.

Our stay at Mary Beth and Eric's apartment could not have been better! We found the place easily and checkin was smooth. The place was decorated for Christmas including a live Christmas tree, which we loved! There were snacks available when we arrived and every amenity we might have needed. The house is charming, location perfect between downtown and the university, and Mary Beth and Eric left plenty of recommendations for places to go and things to do. We loved our weekend getaway here and would definitely stay here again!

We can't wait to come back! We will for sure stay here again. 10 minutes from downtown and 8 minutes from Churchill Downs. Churchill downs was our favorite part of the trip, spent the whole day at the track watching the breeders cup races. Mary Beth and Eric offered prompt communication, snacks in the fridge, and has such a charming home.
