Conveniently located in the historical neighborhood of Victorian Old Louisville, we live within an 8 minute bike ride to U of L and Downtown. Make our spacious, 120 year-old home your home base for sightseeing, conferences, sporting events and more!

The Space

This 1200 square foot first floor apartment will put you in the heart of Louisville's historic district. We live within an easy walk of coffee shops, a bakery, parks, and restaurants. Historical, urban, diverse, yet "feels like home" are some of the many ways guests have described our neighborhood.

The apartment has one bedroom with a full bed and a couch. If you need more sleeping room, there are two additional couches in the living room and a surprisingly comfy twin-size air mattress. Clean sheets, blankets, and bath towels are provided.

Check-in / Check-out
If the apartment isn't booked by another guest on the same day that you're arriving or leaving, you can get here as early or leave as late as you want. We will be happy to work with your schedule. We will give you a code to the building, so there is no need to worry about meeting us in advance. Just let yourself in and make yourself at home!

We have lived in Old Louisville for over 10 years, so we know our community well. While we will certainly respect your schedule and privacy needs, we are excited to share our city with you! If you're up for an urban adventure, let us help you tailor your visit according to your interests.

Guests will have access to the entire 1st floor apartment, which includes:

Interaction with Guests

We always love to meet our guests, but we try not to be intrusive or overbearing. Additionally, we love making recommendations, so please ask!

The Neighborhood

We love Old Louisville. Our home is situated within blocks of five major bus lines. It's safe and easy to navigate on foot, plus bike lanes connect downtown with the university. Most of Louisville's crown jewels are within a 3-5 mile radius, including Churchill Downs, Museum Row, Nulu, as well as convention centers, theaters, sports complexes and award-winning restaurants. In fact, most of the locations featured in Apartment Therapy's Destination Guide are within an easy 10-15 minute bike ride.

The neighborhood is definitely urban. There's an eclectic mix of houses, a few restaurants, and people from all walks of life.

>> Within half a block (under 5-minute walk)
• Ermin's Bakery (coffee, breakfast pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches for lunch)

>> Within a few blocks (5-10 minute walk)
• Amici's Italian Café (Italian-American food, full bar, patio)
• Mag Bar (neighborhood bar)
• Smokey's Beans (coffee shop & sandwiches)
• Scheller's Grocery (the basics)
• 610 Magnolia (upscale restaurant; Chef Edward Lee; reservations required)
• Buck's Restaurant (fine dining, romantic atmosphere and gourmet cuisine; reservations required)
• Taste of China (hits the spot. Customer service could be better, but then again, it's just carryout. Also offers free delivery).

>> Within Old Louisville (10-20 minute walk)
• The Tavern (pub food)
• Granville Inn (pub food, pizza, beer, pool tables, full bar - great place to watch a game)
• Burger Boy (open 24/7)
• Qdoba Mexican Grill
• Quills Coffee (nice atmosphere, popular with students)
• Comfy Cow Ice Cream (try the bourbon ice cream!)
• Green Leaf Natural Vegetarian Bistro
• Dizzy Whizz (diner-style cafe)
• Ollie's Trolley (legacy of Harland Sanders' brief foray into the hamburger business. Unique -- try the fries).

Getting around

We're within 10 minutes of U of L and downtown by car, bike, or bus. It's a nice walk to the University. Guests often find that it's more convenient to leave their car here and take the bus ($1.75 for a 3-hour pass) than to look for parking at U of L or downtown.

Other Things to Note

You will be renting the 1st floor of a 120+ year old building. It was originally built for a vice-president at Louisville Bank. It's not as grand or elaborate as some of the Victorian mansions nearby, but it has a unique flair that we love.

As is typical for older buildings, maintenance is ongoing. There are cosmetic irregularities you should expect. For example, we need to do some painting -- trim, baseboards, and walls. The kitchen and bathroom floors need to be replaced -- they're fine, just outdated. There are few slats of inlaid flooring that need to be replaced. The laundry room needs new drywall. The back door sticks a little. These are relatively minor and our guests have never complained about these things, but we want to be forthcoming with this information.

Additionally, the house across the street is undergoing renovations after a fire. We wanted to mention this so you won't be concerned when you roll into town and see a boarded up house nearby.

Our neighbors are generally quiet, although the college students in the area can get rambunctious. You shouldn't be able to hear them in the bedroom, but if you're a particularly light sleeper, the box fan provides enough white noise to help you sleep.

Our neighbors are real estate agents, factory workers, college students, doctors, retirees, professors, unemployed, office workers, caterers, etc. If you've never lived in a city before, you may want to check out the street view option to get a feel for the neighborhood. One point of pride for us is that that we live in one of the most racially and economically diverse parts of the entire city. We have a mixture of mansions, condos, and apartments nearby. You won't find a more diverse population anywhere in Louisville. This has been our home for over ten years, and we can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

  • Mary Beth and Eric were perfect hosts! The apartment was adorable, clean, well located, and full of sweet little touches. (The typewriter was adorable!) The instructions for arrival, the area, and even current traffic were very helpful. I would stay there again!

  • They were absolutely the best first experience with AirBnB. Very accommodating and responsive. The house was beautiful, clean and even had food to get us through snacking moments and breakfast. I would 100% recommend this home.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Louisville, thanks in large part to the hospitality of Eric and Mary Beth. They were very responsive to all of our questions and made us feel very much at home. There were several charming touches to the place, including an antique typewriter sitting on the dining room table, complete with a typed-out note of welcome (and paper for us to try out the type writer ourselves, if interested; we indulged ourselves.) The bedroom was very quiet at night, and the apartment was incredibly spacious for a one bedroom. An all-around good experience. We definitely recommend the Inn on First!

  • We never actually met the hosts, got a very detailed list of how to access house etc via email before we arrived. The apartment was very spacious, clean, and beautiful. We walked around the community which is located in historic area of louisville and found an amazing little diner with southern comfort die for!
I highly recommend this unit especially for the cost

  • Mary Beth and Eric's place was a very unique and fun place to stay at. It's in a wonderful location, and the neighborhood is safe and beautiful. Mary Beth and Eric were very communicative and constantly kept us up to date about cool things to check out and if anything else was going on. I'd highly recommend this place!

  • The Inn on First is a great place to stay. I had never stayed in a BNB before, this was more than I expected, it was a home away from home. Mary Beth and Eric's home is charming. We felt safe in their neighborhood and walked to a wonderful little Italian restaurant that was about 3 blocks away. I look forward to staying there again when we are in Louisville.

  • Mary Beth and Eric's place made our stay. Wonderfully clean and peaceful in a great part of town. We will certainly recommend it to our friends!

  • We adored this space. It was much bigger than we were anticipating and it felt just like home. So happy we decided to stay here instead of a hotel. I kept taking photos to show off to my friends and they were blown away. Very historic and modern at the same time. And Eric and Mary Beth were amazing hosts, even accommodating a very late check in. Very responsive to our needs. I absolutely recommend this space.

  • This was our second time staying at this beautiful apartment. It is spacious and wonderful. Perfect experience for our whole family! Our kids call it "our apartment" in Louisville. We plan to use it if we can every time we come to visit family in town.

    March 2014
  • Great house with lots of character in a great location in a great neighborhood. Nice little touches (snacks in the kitchen!).
