Interaction with guests

We love Old Louisville. Our home is situated within blocks of five major bus lines. It's safe and easy to navigate on foot, plus bike lanes connect downtown with the university. Most of Louisville's big attractions are within a 3-5 mile radius, including Churchill Downs, Museum Row, Nulu, as well as convention centers, theaters, sports complexes and restaurants.
The neighborhood is primarily urban residential with single-family and multi-unit houses. There's mix of houses, a few restaurants, and people from all walks of life.
Within half a block (under 5-minute walk)
• Toonerville Deli / Old Louisville Pizza ( soups, salads, sandwiches during the day, pizza at night)
• Seafood Lady (incredible shrimp...)
Within a few blocks (5-10 minute walk)
• Amici's Italian Café (Italian-American food, full bar, patio)
• Mag Bar (neighborhood bar, does not serve food)
• Pizza Donisi (delivers; also delivers to Mag Bar)
• Scheller's Grocery
• 610 Magnolia (upscale restaurant; Chef Edward Lee; reservations required)
• Buck's Restaurant (fine dining, romantic atmosphere and gourmet cuisine; reservations required)
• Taste of China (hits the spot. Customer service could be better, but then again, it's just carryout. Also offers free delivery).
Within Old Louisville (10-20 minute walk)
• The Old Louisville Tavern (great pub food, beer selection, outdoor seating)
• Granville Inn (pub food, pizza, beer, pool tables, full bar)
• Burger Boy (open 24/7)
• Qdoba Mexican Grill
• Quills Coffee (nice atmosphere, popular with students)
• Comfy Cow Ice Cream (try the bourbon ice cream!)
• Green Leaf Natural Vegetarian Bistro
• Dizzy Whizz (diner-style cafe)
• Ollie's Trolley (legacy of Harland Sanders' brief foray into the hamburger business. Unique -- try the fries).
We're within 10 minutes of U of L and downtown by car, bike, or bus. It's a nice walk to the University. Guests often find that it's more convenient to leave their car here and take the bus ($1.75 for a 3-hour pass) than to look for parking at U of L or downtown.
Other things to note
If you're new to AirBnB, please take a few minutes to verify your email, real ID, some form of social media, and one or more pictures.
You will be renting the 1st floor of a 120+ year old building. As is typical for older buildings, maintenance is ongoing. There are cosmetic irregularities you should expect. For example, we need to do some painting -- trim, baseboards, and walls. The kitchen and bathroom floors need to be replaced -- they're fine, just outdated. There are few slats of inlaid flooring that need to be replaced. The laundry room needs new drywall. The back door sticks a little. These are relatively minor and our guests have never complained about them, but we want to be forthcoming with this information.
Our neighbors are generally quiet, but there are the typical noises associated with an urban area. The fan in the bedroom provides enough white noise for light sleepers.
Our neighbors are real estate agents, factory workers, college students, doctors, retirees, professors, unemployed, office workers, caterers, etc. If you've never lived in a city before, you may want to check out the street view option to get a feel for the neighborhood. One point of pride for us is that that we live in one of the most racially and economically diverse parts of the entire city. We have a mixture of mansions, condos, and apartments nearby. You won't find a more diverse population anywhere in Louisville. This has been our home for over ten years, and we can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else.
Smoking is not permitted.
Candles are not permitted. (It's an old building, and we just cannot take the risk of fire.)
Pets are not permitted. (While other tenants in the building have small pets, the 1st floor apartment is strictly pet-free.)
Food: The kitchen will be stocked with coffee and tea, plus a few small things for breakfast and snacks. Please help yourself.
Toiletries: We will put out a clean bath towel, hand towel, and wash cloth for each person registered. Most people bring their own shampoo, conditioner, and soap, but if you forget, we have amassed quite a collection from previous guests that you can use.
Keys: A few days before your arrival, we will send you the building access code so you can let yourself in and pick up the key. Please do not give out the building code. When you depart, leave the key where you picked it up.
Please do not bring in any other people unless we know up front. We expect our guests to not be a bother to other tenants and neighbors. No loud parties or other antisocial behavior.
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.

As car-free citizens, we have developed a unique understanding of our city. Ask us about taking an environmental justice, urban garden or apiary tour by bike. Or, download the Old Louisville iPhone app to learn about nearby Victorian houses.
