Welcome to Philadelphia!
***Please read our ENTIRE description as it answers questions about our location, distances to popular areas of the city, and tells you what to expect from our space, and our check in time!!!.***
*** After more than a year of hosting, our place is still $45/night, because we believe traveling should be affordable for many different people. Our place is very modest in size, but we've tried to maintain affordability (no cleaning fee, no charge for the second person), privacy, and cleanliness, within a reasonable commute to downtown Philadelphia. That being said, we are able to do this because we are blessed to be working, which unfortunately, means that sometimes our check in times will not be as early as you may otherwise like - 6pm is our standard check in time. We try hard to accommodate, but please understand that our jobs and other commitments might mean we will have to make changes.***
Our listing is for a self contained suite, with private bath and private entrance on the first floor of our home. The room is cozy with a queen bed and decorated with photographs and items from our travels to Bulgaria. The room has a simple "kitchenette" -- a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker supplied with a selection of coffee and teas -- for your use. We also provide towels and bedding and, most importantly a wireless internet connection. And for those of you driving to the city, free parking in our driveway!!
ABOUT US: Please see our profile to get to know us better!
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US: We live above the space so we are generally "around" although, of course, we also work, run errands, and go out.
Generally, we have had pretty independent guests and that has worked out really well for us. Of course, we are always available to answer questions, chat, and help, etc. But we have found that most guests appreciate that our place offers a high level of privacy. (For example, in most cases, we can't even tell whether you are here or not.) That being said, our philosophy is somewhat "no news = good news" -- we assume that if we don't hear from you, you are out enjoying the city and your visit with no problems at all.
MORE ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND LOCATION:
Our neighborhood is a suburb of Philadelphia. For times to Center City, see below. The residential neighborhood, known as Highland Park, features a nice little Irish-owned pub, a historic family owned Italian Restaurant (Pica's), and a Wawa convenience store w/in 2 blocks. There is a full-scale grocery store, pharmacy, and fast food w/in 10-15 minute walk.
The Location: Close to Downtown Philadelphia! Our street is good for public transportation, and ideal for visiting the city without staying in it!!
Just a block from our home, SEPTA Bus 104, Bus 112, Bus 120, Bus 126, and the Norristown High Speed Line (Route 100) provide access to 69th Street Transportation center, a major Philadelphia transportation hub. For schedules, maps, fares and more transportation information, please see Septa [dot] org. Note that a trip from downtown to our home (or back) is actually two legs: a subway ride, followed by a bus or train ride.
From 69th Street, visitors have access to all of Philadelphia via the Blue Line (see (website hidden)). It is approximately a 12-15 minute ride to University City (for Drexel and Penn), 20 minute ride to Downtown Philadelphia (15th Street) and Chinatown (11th Street), and approx. 23-25 minutes to Old City for access to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, (5th Street) and, when the sun goes down, the Old City Night life (2nd Street)!

I had a fantastic time in PA. Place is great for small group of people, owners are very hospitable. We made new friends for sure!!
I had another great stay here.
Elesha and George are exceptional hosts! Terrific freindly nice people.
Everything we needed was supplied! From coffeemaker to fridge to cushy nice towels! The room is great we had our own entrance with hot shower.
The location was PERFECT for going into Philly -- we walked to the train station at 69th street. We had tickets for the Tower Theater which is right near their home as well! It could not of been more convenient for us!
Book a stay with Elesha and Geroge you will love it!
Elesha and George were great hosts. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable. The neighborhood is convenient for public transit, and has many good places to eat. I would stay there again.
My friend and I were in the area for two nights for a concert. While we didn't get to meet Elesha and George because we were all very busy, they were incredibly kind and helpful. We corresponding before the stay via email and then Elesha was nice enough to call me and answer some questions about the local public transportation.
The room is very private and cozy. The bed was comfortable and clean and there were many small amenities that made our stay even better like a mini fridge in the room that they had stocked with water, extra towels, and dishes for our use.
The house is located in a very convenient area. We jumped right on the subway at the 69th Street Transportation Center to get into Center City for lunch and happy hour. We came home later that night and walked from the house down the street to the local pizzeria for a late dinner! There's a little bar within walking distance and also a Wawa right down the main road.
This was our first stay using Airbnb and it couldn't have been with nicer hosts. We felt very comfortable and safe in the area and in the room. We will definitely be back!!
Elesha & George were the best hosts! They're place felt like a homey Bungalow, very clean and comfortable. The bed was very plush and clean. They provided us with fresh towels and linen that smelled really good. Both Elisha & George welcomed us very warm. The area was very quiet and nice, taking a walk or two around the area is much preferred! I and my boyfriend will definitely be visiting Elisha & George's home again :)
My son and I stayed for two weeks in November. We both really enjoyed our stay. Elesha and George were great hosts - they weren't overbearing/meddling but made sure we were comfortable and had what we needed. Elesha was kind enough to lend me her hair dryer. And she even brought fresh towels and sheets after our first week. Both made themselves available through email and phone, and returned communications right away. They were also very flexible with the check-in and check-out times.
In the photo, there is a chest of drawers, but before we got there, the drawers had been replaced by 2 desks/tables which were perfect for eating. It was unusually cold weather for November, so it was a little cold at the table area, but the rest of the room was a comfortable temperature and the blankets kept us really warm when we slept. The room was exceptionally clean and the neighborhood quiet and safe.
Being from the area, I wanted to stay in the Philly suburbs to visit family and friends. This was the perfect location for everywhere we needed to go. I rented a car for the trip, so I didn't use public transport, but the apartment was less than a block away from the main road, where buses run often. 69th Street, which is a major transport hub and shopping strip, is about one mile away. There was a laundromat, a take-out restaurant and a convenience store all within a few minutes' walk.
While it's true that the room is small, this was the perfect size for us (and living in Japan, we're used to small). It's comparable to a small hotel room. There were tables to eat, a microwave, a refrigerator, a hotpot, a TV, a large comfortable bed and a large closet stacked with extra amenities like towels, an iron, and a case of water. The closet was large enough for our large suitcases and our shopping bags. :) The bathroom had a small shower, and shampoo and conditioner were provided, as well as popcorn and teas. Nothing was in short supply. Elesha and George even left us some Japanese tea. :)
Because it was winter, we didn't spend any time sitting outside, but there was a nice set of patio furniture in their lovely garden.
I decided on this apartment/room because of the private bath, free parking and location. Putting into consideration these highlights, plus the great room, the other amenities and the professionalism of the hosts, this was an *incredible* bargain! When I travel solo or as a pair, I will *definitely* come here again.
This little place helped create a fun and memorable trip that I, and more importantly my son, will cherish always.
My wife and I very much enjoyed our one week stay at Elesha and George's apartment in the Upper Derby area of Philadelphia. The apartment is very clean and attractively decorated, the queen bed most comfortable, and both Elesha and George are caring, hospitable hosts. The location is a short 15 minute drive to downtown Philadelphia. We rented a car from the Enterprise Office in Upper Darby, a mile from the apartment. Elesha and George let us park in the driveway, and we noticed there was street parking available as well. We will try to stay at this apartment on our future visits to Philadelphia, and recommend it without reservation.
The room is small but very clean and perfectly sufficient, just as described. Elesha and George were great hosts, checking in when we arrived and available if we needed anything. The place is about a mile from the 69th Street Transport station, which makes it very easy to get into Philly. Highly recommend it for a short and cost-effective trip to Philly.
Elesha greeted us on arrival in Philly and she took time to show us around the room.
What seemed like a converted garage beneath the main house, now is a completely separate annex with private entrance, shower room and closet. In the room was a fridge/ freezer, microwave oven, coffee maker and queen bed.
Elesha and George have ensured plenty of spare blankets, towels, cups, saucers, cutlery etc as well as popcorn sachets, teas, coffee etc are available. Also in the room is a load of interesting books to read, maps and leaflets for Philly, and a tiny tiny TV (which honestly, we had no time to watch) The closet has plenty of hangers and the room has many draws for folding clothes.
For two people, each with a suitcase, the space was perhaps a little tight, but for only a couple of days we enjoyed it. There is a small baseball pitch across the road as well as a beautiful golf course and plenty of cheap take out food restaurants near by. The apartment is about a mile from the nearest rail stop, but as Elesha pointed out, the buses trams and taxis are frequent and easy to find if walking is not your thing.
As soon as we had the key for the room we actually didn't see Elesha again, (and unfortunately never met George) however she was extremely helpful and accommodating. We also had the drive way to park our car despite the fact they had a car themselves parked on the street.
