The house structure is a bit quirky : the best we've been able to gather is it was an old fishing cottage that was added onto in the 1950s, perhaps connected to an existing out-building? And then renovated again a few times since -- so it has somewhat low ceilings upstairs, odd roof-lines, interesting flow. Nothing crazy, but certainly not a typical tract house.
The house is across from railroad tracks. Infrequent trains do travel the line. Public transportation is anemic in this part of the world, so you should bring a car.
There is no smoking allowed in the house. We do allow dog(s) there occasionally. For an extra cleaning fee, your well behaved dog will be considered. Chat with us about it.
** NOTE, 3 night minimum for NASCAR/FIREFLY week rentals **
We were looking for a private space so that we could have a weekend retreat and this house was perfect. The house had everything that we needed to make our stay easy and enjoyable. Ursula even left us some snacks.
PROS: two bathrooms, laundry (which we didn't use but it's nice to have it), wifi, cable tv, large kitchen, dining room.
CONS: There is a lot of traffic outside, which is mostly not noticeable, except at night when the headlights shine on the house.
Wonderful and amazing stay. The pool was clean and the view was spectacular. We really enjoyed the sunset from the pool with nice privacy. There are a table for outside eating and a nice grill that added a beauty to our steaks..! Kitchen was fully stacked with dishware and glasses, with pots and pans. They even had steak knives. Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely will make another visit to the place in the future. The nearby deli has probably the best sausages and meats. You gotta try them out. Check-in/check-out process was a breeze. A/C in every room, all real beds. Dining area/livingroom area all has flat screen TV. A perfect place for friends and family. There's a nearby park that overlooks the entire lake as well. Nice walk. Railroad is nearby but we heard 1 train passing by per day. Not a big deal at all. 50min drive to/from rehoboth beach/dewey beach. Not a bad drive at all. Plenty enough towels for 7 guests. Washer/dryer available for use. We washed/dried the stacked towels for our use after the beach. House itself is alright but look for supplied amenities and pool/view/outdoors. Highly recommended.
My family and I had an amazing weekend at Ursula's and could not have asked for anything more, except more vacation days to extend our stay! The property is clean and tidy, and even had a few extras for us to enjoy. Not to mention the lake view is gorgeous and we had loads of fun lounging in and around the pool. We would love to stay there again.
great experience overall, thanks.
Ursula and Johan were fantastic! Great hospitality. They were sure we had a comfortable experience throughout the entire weekend. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.
We had a wonderful relaxing vacation here! The backyard is gorgeous, with a side porch with a grill/table, large grass area, huge pool with hangout area, fire pit, and view of the lake from mere inches away. We got a lovely small town feel by going to Hall's Diner and also went to a fire hall all you can eat and drink crab/beer event (thanks to our host for letting us know this was going on this weekend, or we wouldn't have found it!). About the house: This leaves a little to be desired, but the side and backyard more than makes up for it. The train mentioned in the description isn't much of an issue -- it came three times during the weekend that we heard, and one was kind of early on Saturday but we were already up walking our dog. However, one thing we weren't expecting is there is a lot of traffic on the road in front of the house during the days. It didn't bother us but wasn't expected for such a small town. It is very easy to walk to Hall's/Tavern/Ice Cream/Market, and we did and enjoyed it, but it doesn't seem like many people walk in this town as many of the sidewalks were overgrown. Overall I would highly recommend this destination, especially if you are looking for a weekend to get away that has a pool, some water activities (canoeing/fishing), and want to partake in some small town events! My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here and it was a lot of fun!
