welcome to my home! you couldn't ask for a better location...I'm 1/2 mile from downtown, there are amazing food trailers all around & many cool shops & restaurants on S. 1st St...all within walking distance! Bouldin Creek runs through my backyard & there is a short trail through the woods on the other side. it's fun just to walk around & look at the eclectic mix of housing styles in my area. 78704 is the best!!
I have full size real beds in the 2 guest rooms. there is a massage room that can become a private room if someone wants to sleep on a queen size air mattress. I have many nice pillow top air mattresses if you want to put more people in the house...there is plenty of space!
during SXSW I supply basics such as coffee, tea, juices, bottled water, bagels, yogurt, & fruit!
I live on a busy street, so that means there is some street noise in the two front guest rooms (worse during traffic times, often quiet at night). luckily, there are no lights or stop signs nearby...so no honking or braking, but there can be a steady flow of cars whooshing by & the occasional siren. I provide earplugs in case you have sensitive sleepers.
the Solar Sanctuary was built in 2004 on land purchased by my great-grandfather in 1930! it's a 4-star green builder home w/ solar panels (so no worries about running the a/c in the Texas heat!) & large open spaces w/ bamboo floors & high ceilings, no-VOC paint, HEPA-type filters on both a/c units & return air vents in every room.
it's an easy walk down the hill to Auditorium Shores (Reggae Fest, FunFunFun Fest, Stevie Ray Vaughan statue), the hike & bike trail, Butler Park, the Long Center for Performing Arts, the Palmer Events Center & the Dougherty Arts Center...continue across the S. 1st St. bridge & you are downtown (& near the Willie Nelson statue)! it's a quick walk to the SoCo (South Congress) shopping district full of unique shops, restaurants & the legendary Continental Club! the section of S. 1st St. just south of me is becoming SoCo's equal, with fun new places popping up every day! it's a longer but pleasant walk to Zilker Park (when ACL is here the pedicabbers gather at the bottom of my hill!), the Botanical Gardens, & Barton Springs Pool (one of the best things about Austin, a lovely natural springs pool w/ 68 degree water!)
I will offer rides when I can & I love to give advice on places to hangout & things to do & see! I love to be a host to travelers, but I can also stay out of your way, whichever you prefer!
you can also schedule services with me while you are visiting! scheduling ahead of time is best. I'm often available on short notice too, just not guaranteed. I offer henna body art, henna lessons, poi (fire dancing) lessons & hula hoop lessons. It's possible I will host clients or students during your stay, but you won't have to stay out of our way!
basically, I like my guests to feel welcome...like they are visiting a friend! :)

About the Host, Kim
I was born in Austin & both sides of my family have been here for generations! I love south Austin & the 78704 area & I'm a huge longhorn football fan! I was stuck in Houston from the ages of 8-18, but during that time we visited Austin every chance we got. I came back here in 1984 to attend UT (Economics degree) & never left. I am proud of my city & love to share it with travelers! I'm self-employed...doing all natural henna body art since 1997, teaching poi (fire dancing) since 1998 & teaching hula hooping since 2006. I sometimes perform & teach workshops, & I help people with their tattoo or logo designs.
