About this listing
Your room is clean, comfortable, & cozy with a king sized bed. Your private bathroom has a claw foot tub and a separate shower (with a steam bath!).
The House: Built in 1898, it's got character - including some funky bits and some awesome bits. We like the large covered back porch, the high ceilings, the creaky old floors, the rubble stone foundation, and the spacious kitchen with a jaunty blue stove.
Us: You'll share the common areas of our home with James, Lori, & Samson (our young dog), and Buster & Fidda (our cats). We keep the pets out of your room, but they hang out all over the house.
- High speed wireless internet available.
- Plentiful street parking, walking distance to several bus lines.
- No smoking inside.
Please contact us if you are interested in staying longer than a few days so we can chat and see if our place will meet your needs.
A historic district near downtown, Huning Highlands is centrally located on Route 66.
Our house is:
- walking distance to nice eats like the Grove Cafe, A&B's Lunchbox, Farina Pizzeria, Hartford Square, Holy Cow and the Artichoke Cafe;
- 1/2 mile to bus/train station, downtown Albuquerque, I-25, Lovelace and Presbyterian Hospitals;
- 1 mile to the west side of UNM main campus (we both walk or bike to campus daily);
- 2 miles to Old Town Plaza and Nob Hill district; and
- 4 miles to Albuquerque Sunport.
We are not a hotel -- this is both a good thing and a potentially inconvenient thing.
We like guests to check-in on their first night by 10pm or so. After check-in, feel free to come and go as you please. We also need guests to communicate with us about their arrival time -- especially if it changes after we have agreed upon a time together.
We have pets. Our happiest guests have seen them as amenities :-)
Our dog is young and sweet and energetic. He LOVES people. There's a good chance he'll greet you with a great deal of enthusiasm and hang around underfoot hoping for pets. Our cats are also very present. Fidda likes to sit on top of the piano in the living room and Buster will often sit in the kitchen sink looking expectant.
A different airbnb may work better for folks who want or need to check-in late or find it a hassle to communicate with us about their arrival plans -- or just don't want to deal with our quirky pets, our quirky selves, and our creaky old house.
The advantages are all the ones that make up the Airbnb experience. We are happy to have you live in our house with us for a while -- borrow a book or DVD from our shelves, use our washing machine and dryer, get up in the middle of the night to get a snack or glass of water, chat with us about your New Mexico adventures, get some loves from our sweet dog Sam -- or just give us a wave and smile as you duck into your room :-)
This was my second stay w/ James and Lori. I have started planning my trips around their availability! I love that they have friendly pups and refreshments upon arrival. Then, it's that big comfy bed with crisp sheets at night. (I usually get a little cuddle from Buster the cat before I retire). I wake up to the soft sound of coffee brewing, and then it's toast and fruit for breakfast. The master bath is equipped with complimentary toiletries, which is not always the case with others. James and Lori go way above and beyond, which is why I will always try to stay with them first.
I highly recommend staying at this lovely cottage. The host and hostess are delightful and so accommodating. This was my first AirB&B experience; I will be booking all my future travel via AirB&B due to this experience!
Our stay could not have been more enjoyable. Our room was beautiful, and our hosts were most accommodating. I highly recommend this air B&B.
We didn't get to Albuquerque until late evening, but James and Lori were incredibly accommodating to our late arrival, complete with recommendations of where to get a late dinner and cold beers waiting for us in the fridge. The room itself was incredible, the house is a really cool space that we greatly admired. The best part of this listing was how organized and professional it seemed, complete with a guidebook in the room. It really was great and we wished we had had more than one night there. Thanks so much, James and Lori!
We cannot express what a WONDERFUL home this was! From the moment we arrived, James and Lori (and their sweet pets!) helped us feel right at home. They were very welcoming and even offered advice on places to check out during our stay.
The pictures do not do this place justice! The home is beautiful and offers amenities you cannot find anywhere else: steam shower, towel warmer, and access to the kitchen, back patio, and living area. The bed was VERY comfortable, as well!
The neighborhood was very neat, as we were able to walk to some great cafes and restaurants! It's also a short drive to Old Town and hiking in the area.
Thank you, James and Lori, for a FANTASTIC stay in Albuquerque! We can't wait to return!
James & Lori were awesome hosts. They went above & beyond to make my visit wonderful. James came to the airport with me to return the rental car so I wouldn't have to take a taxi back to the house. Then they loaned me an umbrella, which I neglected to bring b/c I thought it doesn't rain in Albuquerque. Wrong! hahaha!!!
The room was fantastic in every way. The house is surrounded by great restaurants. I was blown away and couldn't have asked for more!
This place is great. The bedroom is large, well-air conditioned, with a king-size, comfortable bed and a private, luxurious bathroom. Good location, centrally located. James and Lori were quite welcoming and engaging, giving me the run of the entire main floor. James was exceedingly helpful with maps, directions, and suggestions for restaurants nearby, which there are many. The dogs and cat are welcoming as well.
About the Host, James & Lori
We moved to Albuquerque from the San Francisco Bay Area five years ago and love it here! Lori works as a librarian at UNM and James is working on a Masters in Civil Engineering there. We are busy with school and work during the week, early to rise, early to bed most of the time. James is half-German and loves speaking German when he gets the chance. We are looking forward to hosting folks as they visit our beautiful state.
