Description

The space

The House: Built in 1898, it's got character - including some funky bits and some awesome bits. We like the large covered back porch, the high ceilings, the creaky old floors, the rubble stone foundation, and the spacious kitchen with a jaunty blue stove.

Us: You'll share the common areas of our home with James & Lori, Samson & Rosie (our young dogs), and Buster & Fidda (our cats). We keep the pets out of your room, but they hang out all over the house.

- High speed wireless internet available.
- Plentiful street parking, walking distance to several bus lines.
- No smoking inside.

Please contact us if you are interested in staying longer than a few days so we can chat and see if our place will meet your needs.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to have you live in our house with us for a while -- borrow a book or DVD from our shelves, use our washing machine and dryer, cook in our kitchen, chat with us about your New Mexico adventures, get some loves from our sweet dogs Sam & Rosie, take a nap with Buster -- or just give us a wave and smile as you duck into your room :-)

The neighborhood

A historic district near downtown, Huning Highlands is centrally located on Route 66/Central Avenue just across the train tracks from Downtown.

Our house is:
- walking distance to great eats like the Grove Cafe, A&B's Lunchbox, Farina Pizzeria, Hartford Square, Holy Cow and the Artichoke Cafe;
- 1/2 mile to bus/train station, downtown Albuquerque, I-25, Lovelace and Presbyterian Hospitals;
- 1 mile to the west side of UNM main campus (we both walk, bike or bus to campus daily);
- 2 miles to Old Town Plaza and Nob Hill district; and
- 4 miles to Albuquerque Sunport.

Check in is anytime after 5PM

We like guests to check-in on their first night by 10pm or so. After check-in, feel free to come and go as you please. We also need guests to communicate with us about their arrival time -- especially if it changes after we have agreed upon a time together.

We have pets. Our happiest guests have seen them as amenities :-)

Our dogs are young and sweet and energetic. They LOVE people. There's a good chance they'll greet you with a great deal of enthusiasm and hang around underfoot hoping for pets. Our cats are also very present. Fidda likes to sit on top of the piano in the living room and Buster will often sit in the kitchen sink looking expectant.

A different Airbnb may work better for folks who want or need to check-in late or find it a hassle to communicate with us about their arrival plans -- or just don't want to deal with our quirky pets, our quirky selves, and our creaky old house.

Staying with James and Lori is the AirB&B concept at it's best. They've thought through every detail of welcoming a traveler, and offer a warm, safe, and friendly space to stay. I can't think of one suggestion, and would highly recommendation their home without any reservation.

This is my second review in a week since I stayed here twice, so I'll just repeat that I couldn't have been happier and I highly recommend this place and these hosts!

I can't say enough about how perfect my experience was at James & Lori's. The room and bathroom, the house in general, the friendly pets, the amenities, the location, and of course, my hosts - everything and everybody worked to make my stays (2 weekends, I was elsewhere in between) easy, relaxed, enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Very nice... Helpful, kind, generous. I appreciate this lovely family and was very grateful to be able to stay at their charming home. The location was perfect. I enjoyed my walks and several restaurants to chose from, all good!

James and Lori made us feel "right at home". The room was great and we had use of the main level including the kitchen. The location is very good with several restaurants in short walking distance. I would highly recommend this room.

We can not say enough positive things about James and Lori's room and hosting! The room is really spacious, private bath with bath tub, steam shower was incredible, towel warmer, absolutely delicious fresh brewed coffee every morning, oatmeal, bananas, snacks-they have this hosting thing down!!! Their house is so well decorated, fountains running outside which you can hear through the bedroom window. Their two dogs were so sweet and their cat "Buster" was so friendly and a crack up! Their place is located a short walk from our favorite place to eat "The Grove", the food is amazing! We highly recommend this place-way better than 5 star hotel!!!

We moved to Albuquerque from the San Francisco Bay Area six years ago and love it here!  Lori works as a librarian at UNM and James is working on a Masters in Civil Engineering there.  We are busy with school and work during the week, early to rise, early to bed most of the time.  James is half-German and loves speaking German when he gets the chance.  We are looking forward to hosting folks as they visit our beautiful state.
