When staying at a home like La casa de la Gringa is when we realize how much a travel experience abroad is enriched by staying in a family home instead of a traditional hotel. Of course, it is not a luxury hotel, and it does not pretend to be one. But what you get for the price is hard to beat. First of all Annie and Fausto are wonderful hosts. The family gatherings around the table for breakfast and dinners were a treat. They cherish the art of after-meal long conversations and those were among the highlights of the stay, when we all shared our different cultural backgrounds, recipes and with them and other guests. Plus the room was cosy and the Wifi worked great. Thank you Anna and Fausto for the great memories.

We spent 2 days at Annie & Faulsto's house and it was one of the best experiences we had in Ecuador. Their warmth and generosity are unparalleled. Every day at breakfast was a great chance to practice our Spanish and learn about the Ecuadorian culture and history. They were endlessly patient and we had fascinating conversations for hours, ranging from Ecuador's past & present socio-economic issues to where are the best places to find cuy :) To connect with the local people and have eye-opening discussions are really the reasons why one travels. Annie and Faulsto were generous enough to share their immaculate home, delicious food, and wonderful stories with us and for that I'm eternally grateful. We stayed in a private room away from the main house and it was huge. We were 2 people and the room had 2 beds--1 king-size and 1 full-size--with a desk, dresser, and plenty of room to spare. The private bathroom is just across the courtyard and it's clean and hot water is readily available. The room is extremely quiet at night and it was wonderful to be able to sleep in silence (especially coming from New York City). Our bathroom towels were changed and our beds made daily. The Wi-Fi speed in our room was blazing. We had a key to our room and the key to the front gate and had complete freedom coming-and-going without having to disturb anyone else in the house. The best thing about staying at Annie and Faulsto's place is that they are completely welcoming and available should you need them but at the same time gave you plenty of space should you want the privacy. We were served wonderful, filling breakfast each morning, and dinner is also available for a very small fee. We took the dinner option for the first night we were there and it was delicious. I wish we could've stayed longer so we can try more of their amazing home-cooking. The neighborhood is safe, residential and convenient, with a supermarket and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Any place in Quito is a cheap $2-3 cab ride away. Annie and Faulsto went out of their way to help make us feel welcome. They gave suggestions on sightseeing activities, walked us to bus stations and showed us which buses to take, even gave us tea as parting presents! Annie & Faulsto's place really felt like a home away from home. Will definitely return to their house next time I'm in Quito and hopefully will be able to stay longer too!

Annie and Fausto are such warm welcoming hosts, it was like coming home to our Ecuadorian family! Initially we planned to stay just one night with them but we felt such at home that we extended our stay and decided to return after our weekend trip to the Amazon. Annie cooks delicious homemade breakfasts as well as dinners (dinner is a small extra fee, breakfast is included). The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. Since we stayed two times we had a chance to try out two different rooms. Both are homey and clean and all three bedrooms available have private bathrooms. There is a lovely open-aired courtyard for spending time outside in the afternoon. Wifi works well downstairs in the courtyard and in the bedrooms. Annie speaks good english and is more than willing to offer tips or recommendations on where to visit in Quito or surrounding areas. For an affordable rate Fausto met us at at the airport (and also dropped us off for an early morning flight). This worked out great since it was a direct ride home. Staying here was a true cultural experience. We loved sharing dinners together and chatting and learning about Ecuadorian culture together. Overall we highly recommend staying here, and hope to return one day!
