About this listing

The space

Stunning large 'cottage style' house - nestled in a secluded wooded area, down a little country "boreen", under the Seefin mountain. It is surrounded by river, lakes and sea, and situated a mile from Glenbeigh village on the majestic Ring of Kerry.

This 4 bedroom house is brand new, and finished to the highest standards. Tastefully furnished, with solid oak floors and doors, equipped with all high quality appliances (from kitchen to surround sound audio-visual equipment) as well as wireless internet. The house boasts a traditional sauna, jacuzzi bath and rain-forest showers. It has underfloor heating throughout, via an eco-friendly geo-thermal system. There are large outdoor patio areas, perfect for barbecues and enjoying the fresh unrivalled country air. The property is surrounded by trees and has a wonderful rustic hideaway feel to it.

The location is idyllic; with beautiful beaches, Caragh Lake and River, the excellent Dooks Golf Links and some of the finest hillwalking terrain in Ireland on your doorstep. Perfect rustic holiday base, especially for those interested in golfing, fishing, hillwalking, watersports, horse-riding or just touring this most beautiful part of Ireland. The house and surrounding area will also be particularly appealing to artists/writers/musicians looking to be inspired in a beautiful natural environment.

The small charming village of Glenbeigh is just down the road and has a supermarket and a small selection of local shops, traditional pubs and restuarants. There are a couple of excellent gourmet restaurants in Cromane and Caragh Lake ( 3 miles away). Killorglin (6 miles) is a medium sized Irish town with a lively social scene and a wide array of pubs and restaurants to choose from. The town also boasts a good live music scene. Killarney (16 miles) is arguably the tourist capital of Ireland, with all associated attractions and amenities, including its famous national park. The area is well served by local taxis, should one wish to have a night on the town and leave the car at home. Further afield places of note include Dingle town and peninsula, Kenmare, Waterville and the awe-inspiring Skellig islands (25-40 miles).

Apart from the great natural beauty of the area, this is a very historic and mythical part of Ireland, which features prominently in the great Irish folklore tales. Indeed there is even an ancient 'holy well' up the road from the house with alleged curative powers. If you are looking to venture into the mystic, mythic beauty of rural Ireland, this will undoubtedly be the place for you.

Peter was a great host. He was very accommodating upon our arrival a little earlier than we had anticipated. His father Owen stopped by and called to check in on us throughout our stay. The home is very lovely. We were a family of 5, so the house allowed everyone ample space. The record player and albums that are there gave us a lot of enjoyment. The kitchen was well appointed and we made several meals here. There is a supermarket it the town. The home is right off the Ring of Kerry in the woods. It gives you a very quiet space after a day of touring. Kilarney is about 30 minute drive away. Peter told us about several hikes in the area. We did several and they were all very scenic. We had a very pleasant stay at Peter's home.

Comfortable "homey, quiet, a bit out of the way from attractions. Do not forget to go to "RUMORS" Bistro just up the road. Best meal we had in all of Ireland. P.S. Be prepared to prepare coffee with French Press and Espresso machines.

This is a beautiful house in a very private location. It is in a great location for exploring the Ring of Kerry. The house has all of the amenities that one would need and expect. Overall this is a fantastic house in an amazing, picturesque location. Peter was very easy to communicate with and his father greeted us warmly and gave us all of the info we needed for our stay.

Peter's house is as lovely as his pictures suggest. Our teens loved the sauna and the stargazing window. Close to hills great for hiking, and to the village for drinks in the pubs. Peter's father is local and helped with check in and check out. Everything was perfect, we'd love to return!

We had a wonderful stay at Peter's cottage. His father Owen showed us round the place and was close at hand if we had needed help with anything. But our stay was problem-free! The setting really is idyllic. The cottage is set back from a country lane, surrounded entirely by trees, so you have total privacy. It's just a 2 minute drive to the village centre with a couple of pubs and restaurants as well as a petrol station and mini supermarket. This was really convenient, especially with relatively long opening hours. The cottage itself is pure luxury. It has been built to a very high standard and has been decorated, furnished and maintained as such. It really does tick all the boxes and goes beyond anything you could expect from a holiday home. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time there. With lots of fantastic sights and attractions nearby you really are torn between going out exploring and staying at home to enjoy the cottage. You just won't want to leave! We only stayed 4 nights so personally we visited Killarney for the national park and walked the Gap of Dunloe, went to see Fungie the dolphin in Dingle Bay, and took a boat trip round the Skellig Islands from Portmagee. All of which can be reached in an hour or less (although allow time to stop and appreciate the view as you're guaranteed to pass by plenty of breathtaking sights). Cork airport was less than a 2 hour drive and we stopped off at Blarney Castle on our last day as it was so close, I'd recommend it if you're flying in or out of Cork. We plan to explore more of Ireland in future but it's a shame we'll have to do it without having Peter's cottage as our base. I just don't feel any other accommodation will match up. I suppose we'll just have to go to Kerry again. Well I can think of a lot worse places to be!

The house is fantastic. We stayed as a party of five adults and three children under five and the house still felt huge. It's also really light. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house. Peter was really quick at answering our questions, even though we did ask quite a few! Arranging the arrival was easy. The location is beautiful. About ten minutes by car from a fair sized town with supermarket and other shops and there's a village about two minutes away which also has a mini market sufficient for most things.

Peter's house is absolutely stunning! Location is peaceful and calm. Nearby Glenbeigh Hotel great for a pint and pub grub, very welcoming staff. Highly recommend a hike around Killarney National Park and there are good local walks and pretty beaches to be found nearer the house. Peter's dad Owen was lovely on check in and Peter was great at communicating and responding to any questions before we arrived. A blissful few days spent in glorious scenery and the perfect place for the family to celebrate my mum's 70th birthday. The eco boat tour run from Dingle by Billy and Alice O'Connor was amazing - well worth it!

Originally from the best of the west coast (it's not called "the Kingdom" for nothing!), and currently working in university in Dublin. Things I love include music (being a musician myself), active outdoors sports, the changing of the seasons, architecture/design, good books, great films, funky art, fine coffee, stimulating conversation, meeting new people....and of course travelling to interesting new places. I have traveled far and wide throughout this great world of ours, and now take great pleasure in welcoming people to my own little patch of it.

I finished building my Kerry cottage home in 2012. It was a genuine labour of love; fulfilling a long held ambition to have my own beautiful place in the beautiful area I grew up in. Now I enjoy sharing it whenever possible with fellow travelers looking for an idyllic base in the heart of majestic, mystical Kerry.
