Luxury Cottage in the Woods, Kerry

House - Entire home/apt · Kerry, Kerry, Ireland

The Space

Stunning large 'cottage style' house - nestled in a secluded wooded area, down a little country "boreen", under the Seefin mountain. It is surrounded by river, lakes and sea, and situated a mile from Glenbeigh village on the majestic Ring of Kerry.

This 4 bedroom house is brand new, and finished to the highest standards. Tastefully furnished, with solid oak floors and doors, equipped with all high quality appliances (from kitchen to surround sound audio-visual equipment) as well as wireless internet. The house boasts a traditional sauna, jacuzzi bath and rain-forest showers. It has underfloor heating throughout, via an eco-friendly geo-thermal system. There are large outdoor patio areas, perfect for barbecues and enjoying the fresh unrivalled country air. The property is surrounded by trees and has a wonderful rustic hideaway feel to it.

The location is idyllic; with beautiful beaches, Caragh Lake and River, the excellent Dooks Golf Links and some of the finest hillwalking terrain in Ireland on your doorstep. Perfect rustic holiday base, especially for those interested in golfing, fishing, hillwalking, watersports, horse-riding or just touring this most beautiful part of Ireland. The house and surrounding area will also be particularly appealing to artists/writers/musicians looking to be inspired in a beautiful natural environment.

The small charming village of Glenbeigh is just down the road and has a supermarket and a small selection of local shops, traditional pubs and restuarants. There are a couple of excellent gourmet restaurants in Cromane and Caragh Lake (< 3 miles away). Killorglin (6 miles) is a medium sized Irish town (email hidden)ly social scene and a wide array of pubs and restaurants to choose from. The town also boasts a good live music scene. Killarney (16 miles) is arguably the tourist capital of Ireland, with all associated attractions and amenities, including its famous national park. The area is well served by local taxis, should one wish to have a night on the town and leave the car at home. Further afield places of note include Dingle town and peninsula, Kenmare, Waterville and the awe-inspiring Skellig islands (25-40 miles).

Apart from the great natural beauty of the area, this is a very historic and mythical part of Ireland, which features prominently in the great Irish folklore tales. Indeed there is even an ancient 'holy well' up the road from the house with alleged curative powers. If you are looking to venture into the mystic, mythic beauty of rural Ireland, this will undoubtedly be the place for you.

Peter is were very friendly and courteous, we arrived very late, but that was no problem and we could choose when we leave without any time pressure. We have already recommended the accommodation to our friends and family. Thank you Peter:) See you maybe again- wish you all the best:)

  • My family stayed at Peter's October 2013 and had a wonderful stay. The house is exactly as described and then some. Peter's dad Owen meet us and took us to the house. He made sure we had everything we needed. The house is in a great location to explore the Ring of Kerry, Dingle and the killarney national park. Ross strand right down the road from the house was beautiful and we had hours of fun playing on the sand dunes. The house was wonderful to come home to every night after a long day exploring. Thank you so much Peter and Owen for the hospitality. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

  • The little shorttripp to Ireland was wonderful. We, a group of Cardplayers from Germany, used the fantastic house of Peter, for a sightseeingtour to Dingle und a hikingtour around the "Seefin". We visited Muckross House and Killarney. In the evening we cooked and played cards.

The house of Peter was a realy home for us. We loved the modern design of the old House, which is newly rebuilt with high end materials and perfect selected furnitures ... and with large space.

We try to come back for a longer visit.

Thank you Peter, for this little jewel :-)))

  • It is a lovely location, the cottage is more than comfortable, a short drive to town. It is set up with all the convinces. I could live there , nice and quiet.

  • My family and I loved the location of this house and the house itself! The house is great. Warm, cozy and inviting with plenty of space for a good holiday. A real "home from home" in all senses of the words.
There is very little mobile phone connection in the bulk of the house but easily achievable if you go outside. Internet access is easy and more than acceptable.

The standard of the house itself is good, everything clean and well presented, there is everything on hand that you would want to have withe the possible exception of a microwave but who needs those anyway!! The lighting of the house is good, it is possible to change the mood of most of the rooms downstairs by different configuration of the lighting, a nice touch.

Bring your ipod or ipad because the sound system is excellent and carries all over the house, it is also piped into the sauna so you can steam away to your hearts content listening to your favorite tracks. The use of the sauna is a must, no matter how busy you plan your holiday to be make time for the sauna, it is so relaxing!

All of the bathrooms in the house were good, no complaints at all, plenty of hot water for regular showers etc.

Being close to Glenbeigh there is lots to do on the Ring of Kerry, a visit to the beach at Rossbeigh is a must. Eating out is so easy, there are great places to have good food. In Killorglin, try The Bianconi just near the bridge in town or Nicks just going up the hill into the square. The ever popular Bunkers bar on the Iveragh Rd, has a good pint and good pub food alongside a cafe next door

Nearer to the house, you have to try Jack's in Cromane, pub at the front of house and very nice restaurant at the rear, food here is really fantastic but not cheap (not massively expensive either) but not the place to go on a tight budget.

Back at the house we took the opportunity to have a gathering of the family from around Kerry, there was plenty of room and everyone loved the house as much as we did.

We will definately try to hire the house again at some time soon, everything else from here could possibly be a letdown from this standard. well done Peter, you have a lovely home and thank you for sharing it with us for our holiday in Kerry

  • My wife and 2 kids had an amazing time at the house and traveling around the ring of Kerry. Glenbeigh and the immediate area was a great home base for exploring ... Especially the mountain behind the house !

  • Our stay at Peter's home was wonderful. From the beginning of the first inquiry to the final good-bye, Peter and his dad Owen were always quick to respond, and ready not only with house instructions, but with helpful hints about the area. Members of our party even played a few rounds of golf with Owen!. I would highly recommend staying here, the house is nothing short of spectacular, it is situated in a beautiful location, and is finely appointed. You will want for nothing. All in all a great experience.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Peter's house in the woods. The house is absolutely beautiful, newly built with high end materials and a wonderful layout for gracious living. The location was ideal for us, secluded enough to afford wonderful privacy and tranquility, yet centrally located for easy access by car to Glenbeigh, Killorglin Killarney and many other beautiful locations on the Ring of Kerry. Peter's kitchen was fully equipped and we prepared many fine meals in it. The bathrooms throughout the house were wonderfully appointed, floor to ceiling tiling, rainforest showers. The sauna was easy to use and very cosy.
Peter was a wonderful host who ensured that everything was as we had anticipated with the house, indeed, this thoughtfully designed and and well constructed home exceeded our already high expectations. His father Owen, lives close by the property and was both gracious and helpful throughout our stay. Extending himself, above and beyond, on a number of occasions during our visit.
Thank you very much Peter and Owen for sharing your house, and this extraordinarily beautiful part of the earth with us.

  • we loved the house and its facilities, and got very helpful guidance and attention from the house keeper (Peters father). All in all a wonderful stay!!

  • Peter's cottage was absolutely LOVELY! Its just as well kept and well put together as the pictures show. Its location is superb! Its on the Ring of Kerry, close to a little town and Killarney but just off the beaten path and in the woods so you really feel like you've gotten away from it all. The fireplace works well as does the jutted tub. The rooms are large and it comfortably fit our family of 5 and my in-laws. I would absolutely go back or recommend it to a friend. Peter was not around the week we stayed there but his father was and he took great care of us. He met us in an easy to find place and helped us get out to the cottage. He was wonderfully helpful and gracious. Great place, perfect location, gracious hosts, beautiful country. Five stars for sure!

Originally from the best of the west coast (it's not called "the Kingdom" for nothing!), and currently working in university in Dublin. Things I love include music (being a musician myself), active outdoors sports (especially in water), the changing of the seasons (autumn is my current fave), architecture/design, good books, great films, funky art, fine coffee, stimulating conversation, meeting new people....and of course travelling to cool interesting places (which Airbnb makes so easy and appealing). I have travelled far and wide throughout this great world of ours, and now take great pleasure in welcoming people to my own little patch of it. I finished building my Kerry cottage home in 2012. It was a genuine labour of love; fulfilling a long held ambition to have my own beautiful place in the beautiful area I grew up in. Now I enjoy sharing it whenever possible with fellow travellers looking for an idyllic base in the heart of majestic, mystical west Kerry.
