  • All I can say it diamond in the rough! I was very impressed by the location as well as the place itself and the value! This room had everything I needed to be comfortable; air conditioning, full kitchen, comfortable bed, sitting area etc. Even thou the city was very hectic do to the revolution, the location of the room was far away from all the protesters and (website hidden) was very very accommodating and reassured me all the time of my safety. The next time I come to Cairo I will definitely be staying here again!

  • What can I say. Cairo what a place. Simo's place was fabulous with its view to the pyramids . The room we slept in was clean and cool as it had air conditioning. Best of all absolutely nothing was too much trouble for Simo. He organised a terrific driver for us for the days we were in Cairo and this made the experience even better. Thank you Mohammed (if you need a great driver in Cairo he's the one to call).

Simo also organised water and groceries for our arrival and was always available to us if we needed a conversation between our driver and us translated. Didn't happen very often as Mohammed's English was quite good.

Internet was fast and reliable as it could be with a few power outages -- but they should be expected in Egypt.

This was one of the most pleasurable AIRBNB experiences as we made two new friends in Simo and Mohammed.

    Great experience!

  • This place just blew away my expectation! And for the price it's a real steal! The decor of the apartment was so modern and european! And with all the amenities of American lifestyle. There is air conditioning which was a big plus! Other places were more expensive and didn't have air conditioning I loved it! It has a very nice view and is really relaxing feel. The location was great! It was very close to the pyramids. Moh was a great host! His English skills were great for communicating with him as we'll as him translating for me whenever I needed his help! He was very kind, helpful, useful and honest host! If you need a place to stay in Cairo and you need a person to assist you and is always available then this is the place for you!

  • First of all, Mohammed is a very accommodating, thoughtful and honest host--- smart, open and socially aware. He was always available to us by telephone, which helped more than a couple of times when we needed on-the-spot Arabic/English translations for taxicab directions to obscure sections of Cairo, Memphis, Saqqara, grocery stores, etc. Even with having been to Cairo previously, this was very useful. He never 'over-helped' and he very graciously worked around our request for work privacy.
In short, an excellent guy, whom we now consider a friend.
M's very stylish and clean modern home (which he interior-designed himself) is quite a unique experience in the Cairo area, with many recommendable features.
It is located directly west (yes, west) of the Giza Pyramids in a sprawling, maze-like and very 'authentic' growing village/town/complex off of the Fayum Road known as Hadayak Al Ahram (or 'Pyramid Heights'). Ground-level shops and restaurants are blended in with private homes and apartments, whereTuk-tuks and cabs abound.
One of the great things about this location for us was that it is not in the city. In fact, when leaving the front door (to the direct west) you are greeted by the enormous expanse of the desert. if you are a researcher working on Giza or the Western Desert, this is a great, and obviously much less expensive alternative to the Mena House/Meridien hotel scene. It is about 10 minutes by taxicab to the field, which you can see out of the east side windows of the 5th floor home. (Unfortunately, a new building construction to the east has now obscured the Great Pyramid, leaving only Khafre and Menkaure for your viewing delight.) Depending on your needs, this location may actually be a disadvantage, however. Traffic in Cairo is simply brutal and endless no matter where you are, but many times it took 45 minutes to an hour or more to get to or home from Maadi, downtown, or the southern monuments. The distance to these locations isn't actually very far of course, but the traffic and subsequent smog here is relentless. However, when you're out of the vehicle and inside M's home, you will be very relaxed and comfortable. And moving past the Giza pyramid field on the way in and out makes it very special!
Some cool air-conditioning is needed in the bedrooms. Bedroom number 2's bed is a sort of futon mattress on the floor, which might not be so comfy after a couple of days, especially when you're too warm. But the good news is that remedies for these two issues are purportedly on the way, and could likely be in place by the time you read this!
