Our lovely bright and cozy room is available to women only. It is a small room, accommodating just one woman.
This nice room with private bath is for one woman only (sorry guys, we just aren't set up for you). The room is very cozy, is carpeted, and is on the top (third) floor with views of the treetops and the spires of local churches. There is a single bed and a private tiled bath with shower. This is a nonsmoking house.
We are located in the historic Germantown neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia PA. The neighborhood is close to many historic features and parks. While Germantown is an urban neighborhood, we are just 10 blocks from the glorious and wild Wissahickon Valley. Yet medical student visitors have found it convenient to local hospitals and convention goers have found Center City somewhat distant but do-able.
Amenities include free wifi, free street parking, and we are close to public transit for easy access to attractions in center city, old city and university city.
We have no pets (except for the turtle that lives outside). If you have any questions, please contact me, I would love to tell you about the space and our community.
For breakfast, we can accommodate dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free etc) and many different coffee / tea and breakfast preferences.
I also speak reasonably good Spanish.
Our guest also has access to the kitchen, laundry, living room and lovely back yard in nice weather.
Interaction with Guests
We like to interact with guests, and have made some life long friends through Airbnb, but we certainly don't demand that guests interact! Let us know your preferences.
Most guests do not have time to visit the neighborhood much. If they did, there are plenty of tourist and recreational sites. There are lots of restaurants near by. Though Germantown is not exactly a retail / dining destination, nearby restaurant havens of Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill and Manayunk are 10-15 minutes away.
The closest bus stop is 1/2 block away, and the closest train stop is 8 blocks. Center City is 20 minutes by train, 30 minutes by car, and up to 45 minutes on the bus. For a small fee, we can pick you and your luggage up from airport or train station.
Other Things to Note
The people who have found our spot convenient are those visiting Einstein hospital or these universities: LaSalle, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Drexel University Medical School, and Philadelphia University.
No smoking. Check out time by 11 am, check in time 4 pm. We are amenable to working out other arrangements, given enough notice. If you want breakfast, we would like to be able to serve you by 10 am.
Susan was flexible about my arrival time (which changed as the day progressed), she and Patience both welcomed me. I instantly felt at hoe in their home. It was clean and cozy. My room with bath was private and comfortable. Both S and P checked in to ask if there was anything I needed and to inquire about my comfort.
I had no trouble parking on the street. The neighborhood is urban, with very old and interesting houses, many could use a bit of tlc, while others are sportin' their sunday best. There is a little park around the corner and shops for basic needs. The back garden is private and spacious and just starting to show itself.
Susan and Patience were both interesting to talk with and warm. They keep a quiet and peaceful home, which was perfect for me.
What a great stay. Susan and Patience are lovely, friendly, interesting, and thoughtful people and they did all they could to ensure a pleasant stay. I was very much at home in their cozy house. The space is up on the third floor and is a little alcove as shown in the photos, with its own little bath. Susan noted that they keep the house on the cool side, and me always being cold, I was afraid that I would be uncomfortable but in fact it was deliciously warm up there. They provided a space heater that worked really well, and the bathroom also gets quite toasty from the regular heating system. All in all a delightful stay and I will return!
I stayed in this beautiful room for three days and could not be more satisfied. It was clean, beautiful and included everything the traveller might need. Susan and Patience have been wonderful hosts, kind, welcoming and very friendly. Patience helped me a lot, showed me around and I am very grateful for that. I don't know what I would have done without her advices! The breakfast was always delicious! I wish Susan and Patience have Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Dear ladies, take care and I will see you again one day! :-)
This was my first Airbnb experience outside of NYC, and I have to say, I absolutely loved it. Upon arrival, Susan and Patience made me feel welcome and got me to shake the nerves that came with staying in new, unfamiliar territory. The house is filled with such lovely artwork that I often had to stop and stare at all the pieces. One of my favorite sections of the home is this hallway on the second floor that is lined with portraits. Also, I spent the majority of one of the mornings in their kitchen, which is just as lovely as the rest of the house.
The top floor was entirely mine, and I never thought I would love a carpeted floor so much. Ugh, and that bed. I usually sleep four hours, six on a good day, but I slept an entire 8 while staying with Susan and Patience. The bathroom is small but definitely enough for one person, your company being the plant that resides in the window. In the mornings, the sun shines through the windows and lights up the room, but not in an irritating manner. I enjoyed waking up every morning in that room, the walls also lined with masks and other art.
Unfortunately, Susan was away for my two-day stay, but Patience made sure I was comfortable and made me breakfast in the morning. I've never liked pancakes, but her blueberry pancakes were absolute heaven. We talked a lot in the morning over breakfast and tea and I felt 100% comfortable discussing various topics with her and she really made me feel at home.
The bus isn't far away at all and you can take it to the train to get down to Center City, but just prepare yourself for a little bit of a ride. I'm used to traveling for long periods of time, so it wasn't anything new to me. It's not that far at all, really.
I was truly sad when it was time to go, but I'll be sure to stay with Susan and Patience again some time soon. Thanks again for everything! x
Highly recommend staying w/ Susan! Susan was gracious enough to pick me up from the nearest train station because I arrived at 10PM at night. She made me feel very welcome during my short stay there even though I had to leave the next morning at 7AM. Once again, thanks for being so welcoming!
Susan and Patience were excellent hosts and were very welcoming. I arrived very late on my first evening, and Susan waited up for me and made sure that I was comfortable before going to bed. She provided an excellent breakfast along with interesting conversation. The room was the perfect size, and the bed was very comfortable (I'll have to get a pillow like one of the pillows that she has!). Susan's neighborhood was quiet at night, and I slept like a baby while I was there. Lastly, Susan was very helpful in directing me in my exploration of Philadelphia. I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area!
This was my first airbnb experience and it was really good. Susan and Patience were great hosts. The breakfast was very good and they even took me on a little trip to the city on my last day. They're both very nice and interesting people and we had a lot of nice chats over breakfast. I was a little worried about the neighbourhood but there's a police station right across from the house, and I tried not to come back too late. Transportation to downtown Philadelphia was conveniently located. The room was as described and the bed was comfortable. I'd stay there again.
I love to travel, and have travelled a lot, but rarely these days. Airbnb is an affordable alternative to what I consider to be impersonal, cold and airless hotels and motels, and the normal run of B and B's which can be too expensive. I like people, and would be a great guest: thoughtful, quiet, clean.
These same qualities make me a great host, too. Additionally, I have travelled a lot (and lived) in Latin America, and retain the ability to speak a bit of Spanish.
