About this listing
For Women Only! Our lovely bright and cozy room is available to women only. It is a small room, accommodating just one woman. The private full bath includes a shower. The room is air-conditioned.
This nice room with private bath is for one woman only (sorry guys, we just aren't set up for you). The room is very cozy, is carpeted, and is on the top (third) floor with views of the treetops and the spires of local churches. There is a single bed and a private tiled bath with shower. This is a nonsmoking house.
We are located in the historic Germantown neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia PA. The neighborhood is close to many historic features and parks. While Germantown is an urban neighborhood, we are just 10 blocks from the glorious and wild Wissahickon Valley. Yet medical student visitors have found it convenient to local hospitals and convention goers have found Center City somewhat distant but do-able.
Amenities include free wifi, free street parking, and we are close to public transit for easy access to attractions in center city, old city and university city.
We have no pets (except for the turtle that lives outside). If you have any questions, please contact me, I would love to tell you about the space and our community.
For breakfast, we can accommodate dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free etc) and many different coffee / tea and breakfast preferences.
I also speak reasonably good Spanish.
Our guest also has access to the kitchen, laundry, living room and lovely back yard in nice weather.
Interaction with Guests
We like to interact with guests, and have made some life long friends through Airbnb, but we certainly don't demand that guests interact! Let us know your preferences.
Most guests do not have time to visit the neighborhood much. If they did, there are plenty of tourist and recreational sites. There are lots of restaurants near by. Though Germantown is not exactly a retail / dining destination, nearby restaurant havens of Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill and Manayunk are 10-15 minutes away.
The closest bus stop is 1/2 block away, and the closest train stop is 8 blocks. Center City is 20 minutes by train, 30 minutes by car, and up to 45 minutes on the bus. For a small fee, we can pick you and your luggage up from airport or train station.
Other Things to Note
The people who have found our spot convenient are those visiting Einstein hospital or these universities: LaSalle, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Drexel University Medical School, and Philadelphia University.
No smoking. Check out time by 11 am, check in time 4 pm. We are amenable to working out other arrangements, given enough notice. If you want breakfast, we would like to be able to serve you by 10 am.
Susan and Patience were such gracious hosts and I would not hesitate to stay with them again in Philly. I booked the room on the day of arriving, and they had to understandable shift the check-in time since they needed to freshen up the space. Even so, they allowed me to drop by to leave my bags so I didn't have to carry them while I went sight-seeing. They were very communicative and friendly.
The space itself was clean, comfortable, and just the perfect place to get "home" too after walking around all day. It is about a 20-30 minute bus ride from downtown, but I actually preferred it this way so that I could also see another part of Philadelphia. You can also take the train, which is quicker.
I had a great time during my stay there. Susan and Patience were very attentive and welcoming. The room is clean and comes with private bathroom. I'll stay here again!
Susan was very pleasant and eager to enquire about and accommodate any of my needs. The room was very private on the third floor, everything was clean and tidy! I was only there one night and left very early, but did get to enjoy a short time chatting with Susan on her garden patio!
I'm tempted to fib and say I did not like my stay, but that's because I want to keep this GEM of a rental all to myself. Sleeping in the treetops in a really comfortable bed was wonderful. And having my own private bathroom almost made me want to extend my stay. Susan and Patience were easy going
yet attentive hosts and a delicious breakfast
was an unexpected bonus. My stay would have been perfect if I'd gotten to meet their Turtle. Next time?
This was my third time staying with Susan and Patience and it was wonderful. My daughter was with me which this was her first Airbnb experience she said, " this is cool, it's like staying with friends"! She is exactly right. Thanks, all the best.
A home away from home.
Lady Susan and Lady Patience are among the very best people that i have had a pleasure to get to know. They are kind, genuine and go beyond of what they can do to make you feel comfortable and happy.
It was a delight to see a loving family interact and enjoy each other's company. It showed me how a family can be close in spite of everyday pressures. They have created a great home atmosphere.
Their home is very welcoming which is a reflection of who they really are. Super clean and comfortable and if you need anything, just name it and it will be there.
I am fortunate to have found such wonderful, thoughtful friends.
Thank you for everything!
Susan & Patience were great hosts. They made me feel comfortable and they provided me with everything I needed. The room and bathroom were clean, I had more than enough space to put all my luggage and there were plenty of towels for me to use.
Each morning I was served with an amazing breakfast.
I'm really happy to have chosen Susan's place to stay! It was my first Airbnb experience and it couldn't be better!
About the Host, Susan
I love to travel, and have travelled a lot, but rarely these days. Airbnb is an affordable alternative to what I consider to be impersonal, cold and airless hotels and motels, and the normal run of B and B's which can be too expensive. I like people, and would be a great guest: thoughtful, quiet, clean.
These same qualities make me a great host, too. Additionally, I have travelled a lot (and lived) in Latin America, and retain the ability to speak a bit of Spanish.
