Room with private bath in our home

House - Private room · W Haines St, Philadelphia, PA 19144, United States

The Space

The room is very cozy, is carpeted, and is on the top (third) floor with views of the treetops and the spires of local churches. There is a single bed and a private tiled bath with shower. This is a room for just one (1) woman (sorry guys, we just aren't set up for you!). This is a nonsmoking house.

Our house is located in the historic Germantown neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia PA. The neighborhood is close to many historic features and parks. While Germantown is an urban neighborhood, we are just 10 blocks from the glorious and wild Wissahickon Valley. Yet medical student visitors have found it convenient to local hospitals and convention goers have found it convenient to downtown.

Amenities include free wifi, free street parking, and we are close to public transit for easy access to attractions in center city, old city and university city.

We have no pets (except for the turtle that lives outside). If you have any questions, please contact me, I would love to tell you about the space and our community.

For breakfast, we can accommodate dietary restrictions and many different coffee / tea and breakfast preferences.

I also speak reasonably good Spanish.

Guest Access

Our guest also has access to the kitchen, laundry, living room and lovely back yard in nice weather.

Interaction with Guests

We like to interact with guests, and have made some life long friends through Airbnb, but we certainly don't demand that guests interact!

The Neighborhood

Most guests do not have time to visit the neighborhood much. If they did, there are plenty of tourist and recreational sites. There are lots of restaurants near by. Though Germantown is not exactly a retail / dining destination, nearby restaurant havens of Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill and Manayunk are 10- 15 minutes away.

Getting around

For a small fee, we can pick you and your luggage up from airport or train station. The closest bus stop, however, is 1/2 block away, and the closest train stop is 9 blocks. Center City is 20 minutes by train, 30 minutes by car, 45 minutes on the bus.

  • I had the most wonderful time staying with Susan and Patience, who were extremely welcoming, friendly, and interesting. The room was comfortable and cozy with lots of natural light. The breakfast that Susan made every morning was amazing -- french press coffee, eggs with chives straight from their garden, french toast, fresh bagels and lox. Heavenly. Great conversation over breakfast, and like others have mentioned, I felt more like an old friend coming to visit than an airbnb guest. Susan and Patience also helped me out by picking me up at the train station or giving me a lift downtown. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Thanks, so much, Jess! We hope you come back, often!

  • I had a lovely experience at Susan's place. She was extremely kind and welcoming and put together a really nice breakfast for me (the first of my AirBnb hosts to do so!). I was only at her place for one night and it would have been great to have more time to speak with such warm, engaging ladies.

Thanks, Alexandra! very good to have met you, and I agree--would love to have had more time to visit.

  • Caring, thoughtful, amazing individuals. Very accommodating throughout my entire visit. I was treated like family as soon as I stepped in. The room allowed for privacy and was very cozy (as others have stated). I enjoyed our conversations at the breakfast table - which btw the bfast is delicious! If I were to return to Philly I would definitely stay here.

  • The sweetest ladies I have ever met! Very accommodating and welcoming! The area was clean, cozy, and private. I'd love to stay with then again!

Maria! Thanks so much for your kind review!

  • I had an excellent stay at Susan's place. The room was very comfortable, private and warm! I was welcomed with open arms, offered breakfast and very well accommodated. I flew into Philadelphia and made my way to Susan's on public transit in about 45min. Super convenient. I would definitely stay again.

Thanks, Shambe! I'm so so glad we could be your landing spot in Philly. It was lovely to meet you, and hope we meet again!

  • I had the best time at Susan's. I felt comfortable from the minute I stepped into her home. I look at the picture above with fondness because in that bed was the best sleep I had in years! The bed was comfortable and the flannel sheets were wonderful.

I felt more like an old friend coming to visit than an AirBnB customer. I highly recommend Susan's place when visiting Philadelphia!

    Response from Susan:

Wow, Lisa, I am just thrilled you got that rest that you needed here with us, and your OWN bathroom! I'm glad you were comfortable. Take care til we see you again!

  • I've stayed with Susan two times and both times have been great. Susan is very hospitable and the accommodations are terrific. The bedroom was cool enough in the warm weather and warm enough in the cool weather. The bed is comfortable and the adjacent bathroom is a bonus. Susan pays attention to details -- garden flowers on the bedside table, a reading light close to the bed, and a pitcher of water -- and is very welcoming. Her home was a welcome respite after a bust day! I will definitely stay with Susan on my next trip to Philadelphia -- assuming she's not booked.

Mary, thank you so much for your review! and we look forward to seeing you again, on your next trip.

  • Susan and Patience were lovely and accommodating hostesses. Susan went above and beyond her call of duty in helping me out when I made a mistake with public transit. We got a chance to talk a bit in the morning, and I found that they are very kind and interesting people. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, and made to feel like home with art from around the world. Thank you!!

    Response from Susan:

Sara, I hope the rest of your time in Philly was wonderful! and I'm happy we could help out. I appreciate especially your comment about the art, because we, of course, think it is wonderful (!) but don't hear that much from guests about it.

  • I stayed with Susan and Patience at the end of my East Coast trip. I wish I would have had more than just one day so that I would have been able to accept my hosts' offer to show me around the neighborhood. The house is not located in the posh part of Germantown, but the area seemed nice enough for an inner-city location. I had no concerns with regards to security, and there's a police station directly across the small street, too :) On-street parking was no problem; I got a spot opposite the entrance to the house on both nights. The house itself is a comfortable 3 storey building with a lovely little courtyard garden. My room was on the 3rd floor, which I had all to myself. Everything was very clean. Susan and Patience made me feel very welcome and offered to help me with everything - even with packing for my flight. Susan made me delicious banana pancakes for breakfast. I had a very good stay and would recommend the place to everybody who wants to feel more like staying with friends and not in an anonymous hotel.

    Response from Susan:

Alissa, thanks for these comments. I hope you are getting comfortably resettled in your German home. We were SO happy to be your Philadelphia home for a bit, as you prepared for "lift off" back to Europe. Please come back when you can stay longer!

  • Susan was a wonderful host! I only booked the day before I came to town, she was prompt and reliable with her communication. The house and room were lovely, the bathroom was clean and had clean towels. Even shampoo and soap were supplied! I was very pleased with my visit, it was a great value. Susan was incredibly accommodating, she even made blueberry pancakes, bacon, and coffee in the morning. I definitely would recommend staying with her!

Audrey, thanks so much for these kind words. I was so pleased to be able to make it work for you. Did I mention the pancakes were gluten free? I'm practicing on getting them right, and I'm glad you liked them.

About
I love to travel, and have travelled a lot, but rarely these days. Airbnb is an affordable alternative to what I consider to be impersonal, cold and airless hotels and motels, and the normal run of B and B's which can be too expensive. I like people, and would be a great guest: thoughtful, quiet, clean. These same qualities make me a great host, too. Additionally, I have travelled a lot (and lived) in Latin America, and retain the ability to speak a bit of Spanish.
