  • Check-in was a breeze with a lockbox left on the door by Tami. There was ample on street parking and while the neighborhood looked pretty scetchy, we didn't have any problems. I'm not sure I would have felt as comfortable without my husband there with me though.

The apartment was as shown in pictures, although perhaps more worn. Lots of scuff marks and paint missing on the stairs up to the apartment (there are three sets presumably because of the high ceilings and it wasn't fun with two suitcases and two in cabin bags) but this is made clear prior to booking and the scuff marks are unimportant. The bed is large but a spring mattress so isn't very comfortable and makes a bit of noise when shifting positions during sleep. Air con's in both rooms which is great, it was really hot in Philly while we were there and the air con was trying to cool the room but wasn't succeeding and when I mentioned this to Tami she was ready to come and check it out the next day (which was July 4th), I declined but obviously the communication and her willingness to quickly resolve the minor problem was fantastic! The base of the bath/ shower is crazy creaky when you're standing in there and I was really concerned the people downstairs would be disturbed when I showered late at night.

The trolley is on the corner a few houses away and will get you into the City in around 15 mins for $2.25 each way.

Overall, enjoyed our stay and for the price and convienience, would stay there again!

  • DO NOT STAY HERE! This experience has been disappointing, scary, and frustrating. I was lied to. When I finally got ahold of Tami, she seemed kind. I was promised by her that the "loft apt" was in a safe location but it is not. This area is straight hood. There are dilapidated, crooked buildings up and down the street. There are sneakers strewn across the electrical wires directly in front of the loft indicating illicit drug and gang activity and when my boyfriend and I got to the house, we found the street dirty, lawn very uncared for, the condition of the building poor and 2 large bags of trash greeted us at their front door. The worst of it was the 6 strapping young men (mid 20s) who were on the adjacent front porch at the middle of the day (Monday) discussing a shooting. This was intimidating because of the content of the conversation, the timing of the conversation which occured once we stepped onto the porch, and the increase in the volume of their voice once we were around. My boyfriend and I were horrified at the whole scene. Prior to going to Philly I specifically asked Tami if the location was safe and she outright lied and told me that it was. Once we were able to get upstairs, admittedly, the apartment was clean and spacious and she left on the ACs for us. We called Tami to share our discomfort about the place. She indicated that we would not get all of our money back and hinted that we are racist...we are not. My boyfriend is Black and I am mixed race of Caribbean decent. After the hassle of going back and forth with her we decided to try to stay. Nothing happened and thankfully, we left the area in tact. But, we were so concerned that we boarded up the doors, and slept with knives, and pots by our beds. We were concerned because we are aware that black on black crime is very common. Those guys next door were up ALL day and ALL night. Please also note that this place is not for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs as there are many and are very steep. The bed is also difficult to deal with. Like it says in the ad, it does not have a box spring so you can feel the springs that are under the thin, hard mattress. Also, the bedding did not smell freshly washed, but it looked clean. We removed theirs and spread our own like we usually do. Also, there is only the face mirror in the bathroom, and there's a curtain missing/ripped out of the wall which allows bright light to into the bedroom in the very early morning. I do NOT recommend this place. It is in an unsafe neighborhood/location. But, you don't have to take my word for it. Go see for yourself!

    Response from Mary'S Family:

The guests wanted a full refund upon arrival. My sister, Tami, stated that the property was in a safe location because it is. The guest states: "admittedly, the apartment was clean and spacious and she left on the ACs for us. We called Tami to share our discomfort about the place."
    - By "place" she must be referring to the neighbors.
FACT: The neighbors to one side are young and black but NOT dangerous in any way. Not sure why she described them as "strapping". The neighbors to the other side are white college students of the same physical build who also enjoy their front porch during the day (They have formed a rock band). She must not have seen them nor heard them as they practice (They have formed a rock band). The @ 20 homes are owned by a mix of races. Negro, Caucasian (5), and Chinese (3). College students are also reside on the block.
FACT:There are no gangs nor shootings. LOL. My elderly mother lived there for years and I, a NYC public school teacher, spend weekends and summers there.
FACT:The front "lawn' is a 6 Ft x 5 Ft flower garden that is well maintained.
FACT: The guest wanted a FULL refund on arrival
FACT: There are NO delapidated nor crooked homes on the small street. The property values are too high for that. Values and taxes have tripled since my purchase due to gentrification and most homes have been remodeled recently. Too fast even for (website hidden) Maps.
FACT: I left the bags of chopped wood on the porch because I am renovatiing the lower half of the house and it was not a garbage pick up day. I don't want to get a fine.
FACT: Black on Black crime IS very common - lol - I'm so offended. America should be offended. Not sure about Framingham, Massachusetts, but in Philadelphia and in Brooklyn people of different races live side by side. I did live in Plymouth years ago and I have a sister in Boston - The guests presumptions of minority people are common there as well as parts of NYC. Even among progressive" Negroes. Visit the "hood" in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn where home values are mostly over 1 million dollars. (Even if there are sneakers strewn over the electrical wires).
FACT: The bed DOES have a box spring and my property description doesn't discuss boxsprings at all.
FACT: The guest wanted a FULL refund on arrival
FACT: The bedding was freshly washed that's why it looked clean
FACT: There IS a missing curtain that another guest damaged that must be repaired. Anasha stated "ripped out of the wall". She could not possibly know how the curtain was damaged. There are blinds to conceal the light but you have to turn the slacks up - lol
FACT: The guest wanted a FULL refund on arrival

  • We arrived at Philadelphia at 4 pm. Mary's family helped us to find the fresh grocer to buy the food and snacks. It is really nice and comfortable place to stay in Philadelphia.

  • This was our second stay at this apartment. The apartment was clean and furnished as described. The trolley stop is very convenient to get to UPenn and the self check in was very easy. We spent most of our visit on campus and the trolleys ran often enough that we never had a long wait to get back to the apartment. The air conditioning worked well, it was warm in Philly.

  • This place is great! It's HUGE and in a really cute neighborhood - there was actually a block party while we were there. Easy to find and parking was never an issue. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

  • Tami was very friendly and welcoming - great communication! This was my first Airbnb experience, and it was a very smooth one!

  • The self check in was very convenient and the apartment looks exactly as shown in the pictures. The trolley stop was 3 houses away and made it very easy to get to the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Went home to visit my family, and this apt. was only a few miles away, which was great. The check in and check out was a breeze with Tammi, who was responsive to my needs. The place is as photograph and makes for a nice temporary live-in space, ... its also really quiet too, which I really appreciated. Everything smooth, no issues.

  • My first Airbnb experience. The photos match the apt exactly - and though I spent much more time out of the apt than in - I felt like I was back at my own house. Nice clean space and comfortable beds (I slept like a rock). Nice wood floors and updated kitchen and appliances - and other than a few walls needing touch up paint (only I would notice this, being a landlord who rents apts out) - this loft was perfect. I wish it was one of the units I owned! Thanks to MaryS' family for the experience.

  • The apartment is amazing and vey spacious, but I would not recommend it to a girl traveling alone.
Communication worked perfect and the apartment is really well equiped. Not matter what you might need it'll be there!
