Interaction with Guests
We are often at home in Bali, and when we are....interact extensively with our guests who often become like members of our family.
Milo our pug is here when we are to entertain our guests as well.
The neighborhood is very convenient to everything in Ubud and is a microcosm of the best that Bali has to offer. A walk out to the rice fields will enable you to experience the daily life of the farmers in this agricultural community. Watch the ducks as they clean the rice fields and get them ready for a new crop; see locals washing their laundry in the streams; visit with local artisans in their homes and really get a sense of what Bali is all about!
There are cars and drivers that can be rented along the main road for trips into Ubud.
We also have a driver that can take you touring anywhere in Bali.
Some of our guests have opted to rent motor bikes or push bikes and that's something that we're able to arrange on their behalf.
We ask that you arrive before 4:00 pm as that is when Made' leaves for the day. If this is impossible we will need to make special arrangements.
This was truly a fantastic experience. This was our fourth trip to Ubud, and turned out to be the best one! The property is lovely, quiet, charming and well maintained. It is located amongst nature, far from traffic. Be prepared to walk for 7-8 min to hit the main road which leads to Ubud (another 15 min walk or a 5 min taxi ride). On the first day, the distance bothered us a bit (we were travelling with a toddler), but we soon realized it was so much better this way - staying in a quiet place.
The hosts were not in town, but Made Pia helped us with all our needs - yum breakfast, local info, in-room massage arrangements, car arrangements etc. She was very friendly and provided personal, top-class service.
Highly recommend this place to someone who wants to refresh and recharge themselves!
This was our first AirBnb experience, and boy was it a great one. From the booking to the checkout, the experience was first class.
Barbara was very communicative before we arrived, and arranged for an absolute gem of a driver, Blue, to pick us up from the Bali airport. As we drove Ubud, he kindly probed into our interests and singlehandedly set up our time in Ubud for us. He booked a simply breathtaking bike tour of the rice fields, and then confirmed a round trip excursion to the Gillies for us. We were so impressed and thankful for his hospitality! We simply couldn't have set up our adventure with the kind of efficiency and ease that Blue gave us.
We arrived at the property, which is a short and rather fascinating walk up a little labyrinth of pathways that overlook Ubud. We had never experienced a community like this, and it just felt so authentic, with little irrigation streams running alongside the sidewalks. Barbara's husband Henry greeted us warmly and gave us the tour of the stunning little guest house. It was cozy, clean, and comfortable. We especially loved the outdoor shower! Can't tell you how cool it was to shower under the stars.
Hands down the most incredible thing about this property was the breakfast! Oh the breakfast! The housekeeper Pia was such a sweetheart and served homemade bread with her hand-made jams. We looked forward to eating her incredible food every morning. When we returned from our cycling excursion, Pea had left a little tupperware of homemade banana bread for us! My girlfriend has been talking about those breakfasts all week. So good.
I have nothing but great things to say and fond memories to keep. We LOVED this amazing little villa.
The moment we reached the airport, we were greeted by Blue, their driver. He was definitely very friendly!
The villa is located about 5 mins away from Bintang supermart where you can get anything you need, from food to all your basic essentials. Definitely convenient for all.
The moment we reached our villa, we were greeted by Henry who made our stay a pleasant and welcoming one.
To be honest, it was my first time staying in a villa and I have to admit that I loved the place so much! Not forgetting Milo, the resident pug. He's definitely friendly too! Loved the outdoor toilet of course!
Delicious homemade breakfast served right at your doorsteps. Nothing beats that!
To sum it up, a good place to stay if you're coming down to Ubud. Probably about five mins motorcycle ride to Ubud Town. Super easy to get there.
However, it gets very dark once the sun sets, so getting to the villa tends to be a bit scary (I'm afraid of the dark, sorry!). But all you need is a flashlight and you're all good to go.
Thanks Henry and team for making our stay a pleasant one. Definitely no regrets! Thanks for making our stay in Ubud a memorable and relaxing one!
My stay in Barbaras and Henrys Bungalow in May 2015 was just amazing..!
The Garden, the room, the breakfast, the pool.. everything was perfect. The staff was warm, kindly and very cared of me.
And the look of the Bungalow was exactly like the pictures on AirBnB.
I would go back any time and I can recommend this place 150%..! :-)
Barbara and Henry, thank you very much for all.
I send you lovely greetings from Switzerland and wish you a beautiful stay in US.
I miss Ubud and your Bungalow..
See you next year..! :-)
Barbara and Henry's bungalow pretty much had everything we could want from our stay in ubud! The surrounding gardens were beautiful, and the room was just right. Barbara and Henry were friendly, helpful and good conversationalists. I agree with some of the other reviews in saying that one of the biggest drawcards of this listing is Made Pia. She has a bubbly personality, and her mie goreng was better than any we tasted in the restaurants or warungs. We will be recommending the bungalow to our friends in aus :)
We had a wonderful stay at Barbara and Henry's place in Bali. My wife and i stayed for three nights at the Villa. The Villa was tastefully done, with beautiful interior deco and well maintained. The location is also quite convenient with many markets and restaurants nearby. For people who are particular about Indian food, there is a reasonably good restaurant about 10 mins away. I must say that we are very glad that we took the advise on this page to have their driver Blue pick us up from the airport, as we arrived at around midnight and it would have been difficult to find your way for the first time. The torch provided in the rooms came in handy as the path to the villa is quite narrow and dark at night. Though scary initially, it adds to the laid-back charm of the place :)
Breakfast was truly Amazing, with the beautiful ambiance in the patio, and Pia's delicious breakfast and the fruit juices. Make sure you try different things on the menu card, as each dish is unique. Pia's jams are also excellent, we particularly loved the spicy papaya jam. Little Milo was also a delight. He was a very friendly and warm dog.
Above all, Barbara was such a lovely host. She was warm and friendly and made you feel at home. We really look forward to visiting again soon!

About the Host, Barbara
My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud.
Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic.
We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
