Wonderful, full service breakfast included, daily cleaning, air con and wifi. Stay in the most exciting area of Ubud. Close to all amenities. Live like the Balinese!

The Space

Bungalow Jepun is a jewel set in the center of a quiet lush garden filled with the sounds of falling water, exotic birds and the bark of geckos.
A short walk along a narrow path about 200 meters from the main road takes you away from the sounds of cars and motorbikes and into the our compound .
Villa Semua Suka, which means "everybody likes' and Bungalow Jepun are contained within the same walled compound and lush gardens .
The Bungalow has one queen-size bedroom, and one large bathroom with both an indoor shower and an outdoor shower and bathtub.
The outdoor veranda, swimming pool, gazebo and garden are all part of your living area.
It was completed two years ago to Western standards with a Balinese aesthetic, and was built on the lower level of a former rice field. It has a fish pond and small waterfall, its own garden, outdoor loungers, umbrella, a small veranda with a table and 2 chairs and another comfortable chair for relaxing.
Bungalow Jepun also has air conditioning, a flat screen TV and DVD player, iPod player, refrigerator and small daybed, as well as wireless internet throughout the grounds. Your stay at Bungalow Jepun includes a gourmet breakfast featuring our own house-made bread and jams, fresh fruit, choice of eggs, pancakes, and local specialties, plus great Balinese coffee!
You'll be well taken care of by our staff Made’ Pia and Made’ Ratna.
Made' can also help with arrangements for day trips, rafting, downhill biking, cooking classes, etc.
Bungalow Jepun is set in the in a small community where ex-pats, and locals live side by side for . Less than a 5 minute walk down the path is an excellent Yoga studio, 6 small restaurants, a couple od Spas and a large supermarket.
You have in Bungalow Jepun, the authenticity of the village of Penestanan and the yet the convenience of being just a 15 minute walk from the town of Ubud, where you can find many excellent restaurants, museums, galleries and shopping fun!

Guest Access

Our guests have access to the swimming pool, garden grounds, a relaxing gazebo and the services of our staff.

Interaction with Guests

We are often at home in Bali, and when we are....interact extensively with our guests who often become like members of our family.
Milo our pug is here when we are to entertain our guests as well.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is very convenient to everything in Ubud and is a microcosm of the best that Bali has to offer. A walk out to the rice fields will enable you to experience the daily life of the farmers in this agricultural community. Watch the ducks as they clean the rice fields and get them ready for a new crop; see locals washing their laundry in the streams; visit with local artisans in their homes and really get a sense of what Bali is all about!

Getting around

There are cars and drivers that can be rented along the main road for trips into Ubud.
We also have a driver that can take you touring anywhere in Bali.
Some of our guests have opted to rent motor bikes or push bikes and that's something that we're able to arrange on their behalf.

  • My husband and I had a great time in Ubud in Barbara's bungalow.
Barbara and her husband Henry gave us very good advices about where to go and where to eat. I forgot my key once, and Henry had to hurry back from his friends' house to deliever his key to us. Thank you very much for that.

Pia, the maid, cooked the best breakfast in the world. Well, in fact, I usually have no time to eat breakfast when I was working, so Pia's breakfast really stand out. :)

The driver Blue took us to one of the best local place to eat really authentic baliness food. So Yummy.

  • PERFECTION. If you are reading the reviews seeking confirmation, look no further. You have to stay here when in Ubud,

Not only is the bungalow exactly as described and pictured, but Barbara and Henry will take the greatest care to make sure you enjoy every minute of your stay. The bungalow itself was found spotless, bright and airy, and sports some of the nicest amenities you can think of, including a decadent outdoor shower and bath (we did not use the indoor one once during our five day stay!).

The location is idyllic: set in the fields amidst a beautiful small community a few minutes walk from busy Ubud, it is unbeatable. You can walk everywhere and there is a supermarket five minutes away. The grounds are phenomenally beautiful with a wonderful deep pool, and the setup ensures privacy while making you feel part of the family.

Our stay was made perfect by Pia, chef and site keeper extraordinaire, who not only served us some of the best breakfasts we've had in our lives, but engaged in fun and thoughtful conversations when taking a break from her busy schedule. She even brought us gifts of her home made baking (sweet bread and the yummiest scone in the world) for us to enjoy at tea time.

A 10 out of 10 experience, and one we will not only cherish in our memories but also strive to repeat in the near future, and hopefully for much longer next time. Thank you so very much Barbara, Pia and Henry for 5 days in paradise.

  • We spent three nights at Bungalow Jepun and had a lovely time. The bungalow is set in beautiful gardens which we could relax in during the day. The inclusion of breakfast was a real bonus especially since they were really delicious!

Barbara and Henry were great hosts and provided us with lots of helpful suggestions for activities and places to eat. They have a very cute dog which added to the fun experience.

The location is also great, being just a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of Ubud.

I would certainly recommend this as a great place to stay in Ubud.

  • Outstanding stay! This place was comfortable and private. We really enjoyed our stay here with the bonus of Pia's fantastic breakfast each morning. Barbara and Henry were great hosts who shared great stories about building their home in Bali with us. Milo was a great breakfast companion each morning. The place is very nicely decorated with a lot of great amenities, not to mention the beautiful landscaping and pool. The location was close to town with many great restaurants, shops, and activities nearby. Hope to make it back one day. Don't miss your opportunity to stay with Barbara and Henry!

  • This was a lovely place to stay and in a great location. The hosts, Henry, Barbara and Made Pia, were all extremely helpful and friendly and all of their recommendations were great (particularly the wonderful day spa).

The accommodation is very nice, beautiful gardens, very clean and well decorated with an amazing comfortable four poster bed. The only surprise and downside for me was the bathroom is open plan style round the corner from the bedroom (e.g no actual door separating the bedroom and toilet which I personally find a bit awkward when travelling in a couple). There is also a really cool additional outside shower and bath. Also the lovely outside veranda area with table and chairs is wonderful to sit out and read, eat or chill out.

Breakfast is included and is EXCELLENT – wonderful food and such friendly service from Made Pia, the house manager.

The local area was lovely – far nicer and calmer than central Ubud with some divine cafes and walks around in the area. Due to the narrow paths and stairs to get to the accommodation it would not be suitable for someone who is mobility impaired but if you can manage a few stairs then this is a fantastic location – tranquil and feels like a real taste of Bali.

  • What a little oasis Bungalow Jepun is! Set high up on the ridge in the mountain air, through tiny little alleys that lead you to all sorts of wonderful surprises. Our stay here was just perfect. Thankyou Pia for your delicious homemade bread, jams and cookies and for looking after us so well. The bungalow is just gorgeous and everything you need has been thought of. I would highly recommend this to any traveller who wants to be nestled just on the outskirts of Ubud for a bit of peace and tranquillity, yet still close enough to everything you need. Great little organic/raw/vegan cafes and a yoga centre are a mere stones throw away. Gratitude to all who make this special place what it is....a little piece of heaven. Many thanks, Alli & Greg

  • Bungalow Jepun was lovely! It is exactly like you see in the photos, very peaceful and has all the comforts one would like.
Barbara and Henry were excellent hosts, always willing to offer advice and recommendations on whatever I needed. They really thought of everything, including loaning me a local mobile so I could easily make bookings, or use it to call them if I was ever stuck.
Barbara booked one of her drivers, Blue, to pick me up from the airport. He was waiting there when I arrived and made my journey to Ubud easy and enjoyable. He drove me back once my stay was over, and was also available for any day trips I wanted to go.
The surrounding area is beautiful and has everything one needs; cafe's, restaurants, supermarket, day spas, yoga classes and is within walking distance to Ubud centre.
I would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a peaceful, easy experience. Absolutely beautiful. I would definitely stay here again should I return.

  • We had the most amazing time at the Bungalow! We, now, feel like we have family in Ubud! Barbara, Henry, Pia, Ratna and Milo made the experience in Ubud for us!!! They were incredibly welcoming, told us the best things to do, and even gave us a cell phone to use while we are there. The villa is absolutely amazing and located in the perfect spot in Ubud. It is out of the chaos and tourism of the city, which we really appreciated. We cannot wait to come back and stay again :) If you are coming to Ubud, this is definitely the place to stay! Couldn't recommend any higher.

  • Barbara and Henry were great hosts and gave us all the information we needed to have a great time in Ubud.
The Bungalow was beautifully furnished and we would highly recommend it.
Pia's breakfasts were delicious.(try her amazing black rice pudding!)

The location was great in the rice fields on the outskirts of Ubud. The area is so quiet and relaxing and only a short walk to nice cafes and shops nearby and It only took 10/15 mins to reach the town and all that Ubud has to offer.
    Hope to visit again soon

  • Thank you Barbara and Henry!
Danny and I had a lovely time at your place in Ubud. Made's homemade bread, jams and cookies were delicious - wish we could've had more!

Everyone was so helpful with accommodating the delays and arrival time changes due to the weather, which was necessary on arrival and departure (we came during the rainy season). The bungalow was lovely, ideal for a couple, with its own outdoor lounge area for breakfast and hanging out with a book. The outdoor shower and bath are an extra added perk, which was appreciated in the hot weather.

In reality, the pictures don't do the place justice. It's more than you see online.

Thank you again! We hope to be back and will look you up then!
    Cheers
    Iris & Danny

About
My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud. Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic. We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
