We spent great time at Stewe house! Everything was perfect...the room, location and of course Stewe and his wife. The apartment is well kept and very clean. Metro just few steps away.
A famous italian writer says that you can understand someone by the music he listen...we saw Nick Drake full box collection (even Casabian and many Others....) so for me and Giorgio ...they got 3 yes!!! (like airbnb's got talent :))
The apartment is incredible. You have everything you can need during your stay. It is like staying at home. Steve and Rosalyn are wonderful and very polite. I truly recommend it if you want to have a fantastic stay in New York City.
Antonio (Seville, Spain).
I had a fantastic stay with Steve and Rosalyn. I recommend their place highly. They were lovely hosts who were always considerate and welcoming. The room with bathroom attached was fantastic. It was quiet for studying and sleeping and there also was heaps of closet room so i didnt have to only live out of a suitcase. I would stay there again without hesitation. Good value, lovely people.
As so many others have said, staying at Steve's place was outstanding in every way. 1,000 Stars!
My boyfriend and I stayed there for most of 2 1/2 weeks (with side trips to other states while visiting from the West Coast). I chose his place based largely on others' glowing reviews, and every single great thing that others have said is right on target. He and his place rock, in every way.
The apartment and the building are modern and impeccable, safe, extremely comfortable, with easy access to major subways, and so many little extras (the space in the cabinets and fridge, the kitchenware and food and cooking space, the washer-dryer, the bathroom stuff ... on and on and on ...) The shower is FANTASTIC (I really miss that water pressure now that I'm home!) and everything is sparkling clean and orderly. Steve really thought of everything in making a very welcoming, relaxing and convenient space for guests. Every little detail was taken care of.
On top of everything else, Steve went out of his way to make room in the living room for our two road bikes (I'd arranged this in advance with him) and that made a huge difference for us. I'm not sure he'd want to do this again, but we sure appreciate what he did for us!
He also provides lots of great written details about Harlem and NYC in general, and as a former NYC resident I can vouch that they're perfect.
As he notes in the listing, he and his wife live in the apartment while guests are there. But we hardly knew they were there -- they stay in their bedroom when the guests are around, though they're easily available if you need anything.
I could go on and on ... but read the other reviews for more details and know that all that great stuff is totally true. I'm so happy we stayed there. Thanks so much, Steve!!
Thank you very much Steve !
Five out of five stars! I had absolutely the best experience at Steve's place! First, the host: Steve is the quintessential host--an English gentleman-turned New Yorker who has thoughtfully attended to every detail one could ever need as a guest. If the concept of bed & breakfast is English (don't know for sure but that is my best guess) then Steve proves this concept to a tee. Breakfast foods and drink were available for guests in a beautiful, pristine kitchen and dining area. Second, the room and building: The room was beautifully appointed, with a private bath off of the bedroom with clean and modern fixtures. The room has a HD TV with cable channels. And what a pleasant surprise to see that the building was totally in character with Steve's place. It was clean and quiet--and when passing the maintenance workers before heading out for work I was always greeted with a pleasant 'hello'.
Finally, Harlem: First, as a seasoned traveler I never like to over-generalize places as I feel that no city or neighborhood is all good or bad and that goes for Harlem. I have a long relationship with NYC as I am a NY lawyer and have stayed in many NYC neighborhoods over the years. On this journey, I was in Manhattan working for one month (which became severely disjointed due to Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy) and stayed in two places prior to landing at Steve's. The first, in Central Harlem was the picture book stereotype of Harlem complete with drug addicts, cursing neighbors in the hallways and loud, booming rap music played all night where I did not sleep through the night..ONCE. The second, on Manhattan's tony Upper East Side, was in a beautiful neighborhood, however, the room was somewhat cramped and lacked amenities and the cleanliness of the building was superficial indeed--as I saw a large mouse scampering across the very filthy basement's laundry room. I share these prior experiences to say that you cannot always judge a book by its cover....
Steve's neighborhood, in what I would call West Harlem, was all that is good about Harlem. People clean their sidewalks in the morning, often greeting me as I passed by. As far as eating, there is a main grocery right around the corner on Broadway (where there are also the obligatory fast food joints) and there are also those tiny, omnipresent 'delis' where one can pick up their favorite junk food snack but hey, that's inner-urban life. One evening I hopped (email hidden) where I picked up dinner at Whole Foods and brought it back to the apartment. Some days I ate in Midtown because of my work hours. It all depends on what you're looking for and on the island of Manhattan if you are willing to explore you will find what you need.
Thank you, Steve, for providing me with a wonderful experience. You have been bookmarked as my first choice on my return visits to Manhattan!
I had a very nice time staying at Steve and Roselyn's place. They very nice and kind. I was there for a month, they respect privacy and at the same time they couldn´t be more helpful. As other reviewers have said, the room is neat, modern, and has everything you need. There's plenty of storage space and additional linens and towels. The neighborhood is safe, you have trains and buses very near. I had to work very much during my stay, I had a nice view from the window and the bed is very comfortable! I sincerely recommend this place.
Great neighbourhood and easy access to subways - I would absolutely recommend this place. Steve provides everything you'd need, it's like staying at a hotel.
Like all the other comments, i must say that the room was just perfect!
It corresponds perfectly to the description. We were near to the subway, 15min to downtown. There were all the accomodations that we needed + breakfast :)
The room was as good as a hotel room, but way more cheaper! The building is safe (key for the lobby and to use the elevator). Even if we were in harlem, the neighbourhood was pretty nice and quiet. We were 2 young girls, and we never had any problems.
Steve and Roselyn are very kind and discreet. If you had any question, they are here to answer it.
I'm really satisfied with my stay and my trip. I highly recommend this place! :D
