Casa Kalana is a quaint, contemporary home situated on one acre in the middle of one of the last pieces of untouched coastal forest. It is full of monkeys, tropical birds, gardens and assorted wildlife. A surfers dream house with a two minute walk to one of the best breaks in all of Latin America! We rent by the week, month or long term so drop us a line if you are interested. We have local telephone and WiFi, but sorry, no traditional TV available, A break from TV is really good for you! ;)
There are two bedrooms adjoining each other through a common bath/shower. Please knock before entering is a basic rule. Upstairs is a large terrace for sunbathing and fantastic star gazing at night. There is a futon sofa in the living area to accommodate up to 2 more persons.
Interaction with Guests
I tend to leave the house when others are renting, but I am not more than 10 minutes away should anything arise. It is the jungle here, and things do happen, mostly nature. We are long time residents here and have enjoyed hosting guests who have left as friends. We work hard to insure your valuable vacation time is stress free and relaxing and we are honored that you would consider Casa Kalana and Playa Negra. If you have any questions, please let me know how to be of service. Mahalo, Frank Kalana
Playa Negra is so much more than just a surfing beach, there are empty roads for an early morning or late evening run or walk. Horses pass here daily for those interested, and the best canopy ziplines are a 10 minute drive away. We are a quiet, residential community, with restaurants and stores within walking distance, but a rental car greatly expands your options if you are here more than a week. Yoga studios, training programs, fishing, surfing lessons, we can make it happen.
Bus travel is daily into Santa Cruz, but with a rental car, you can be there and back with your shopping by the time the bus arrives in Santa Cruz. A real time saver when you are on vacation. You can also rent bicycles here, but a car is always preferred. Talk to me about your plans before you arrive so you minimize any downtime.
Other Things to Note
Costa Rica has a 13% rental tax which must be paid by the guests in CASH at the time of check in. We also will send you a rental agreement after your booking with AirBnB has been confirmed.
Never allow people you meet on the beach into Casa Kalana. You will be sadly surprised how many robberies occur from your new "friends". While we have been very fortunate, most of our beachfront neighbors have not.
