Suz was a wonderful host to me and my four friends. The place is cozy and right on the river. It was the perfect retreat for a weekend away from the city. We will definitely be back again!
Thank you Suz for taking the time out to chat with us and make sure we were doing alright!
Suz was great! Decided last minute to stay there and felt very welcomed and was very accommodating with our last minute request. The fact it was walking distance to town was the big plus. Didn't need more than a comfortable bed to sleep on (which it was) so I can't speak for other amenities provided and whether it would fit others' needs.
Suz was a fantastic host, she personally greeted us and gave us a tour of not only the place, but also showed us her place and took us down to the river despite it being pitch black and freezing outside!
She also stocked the kitchen with snacks, which was really above and beyond!
This place was perfect for our group of 4 adult friends. These weren't issues for us, but some guests might find this useful:
- The house is right on the main road, and you can hear cars passing at most times
- The bedrooms are separated by a curtain
- The second queen bed is a pullout couch, and comfort is consistent with that of a pullout couch
But here are some great things you might also find useful:
- The backyard literally IS the Russian river, you can walk right down to it.
- The house was nice and toasty and plenty of hot water even though it was chilly outside
- Our small dog was a welcome guest, and loved walking around the backyard and the river
We were looking for a quiet place to get away with our dogs for a few days and Suz's house was the perfect place for us. It is quirky and full of history. It sits right on the river and is just a short walk from the cute town of Guerneville. The unit we stayed in is the bottom floor of the house where Suz lives upstairs. The floors are rough, painted wood, covered with rugs where it counts. This was perfect for us because we could let our dogs play without worry. It was a totally relaxing visit.
Suz is an amazing host. She loves dogs and played with ours any chance she got. She also loves people, and we enjoyed talking with her. She went to every effort to make our stay positive, stocking the mini-fridge with thoughtful staples and recommending a beautiful hike we could take our dogs on with us. Our comfort and enjoyment was clearly important to her.
We will definitely be returning for another visit!
Suz was very welcoming and accommodating. She provided a nice place to stay, with plenty of room for the six of us. There wasn't a lot of privacy between rooms, but there was plenty of hot water and towels for us, a convenient location, accessible river front, thoughtful supplies (coffee and bananas!), and all for a good price. Thanks Suz!
We were so grateful to find a place to stay last minute on Labor Day weekend, and Suz was impressively responsive.
Suz was very welcoming and clearly very invested in ensuring we enjoyed our stay. In the morning she left us fresh fruit and cream for our coffee and let us borrow her bike helmet and left us a nice thank you note upon our departure.
The place was clean and as described (the fellow who was upset about the floor material and lawn maintenance seemed a little over the top), but the smaller bedroom was indeed just a bed, really, and no closet space is available. The two bedrooms are indeed separated by a curtain, the smaller one accessed through the larger. The larger has two twin beds and a futon foldout, described as "really comfortable," so i think our expectations might have been a bit inflated. It was fine for a couple of nights, though.
It should be clear that there is only one entrance to the house; the entrance hallway opens to the stairs leading up to Suz's part of the house, and a french door closes off the rental portion of the house.
The backyard goes right up to the water with a lovely bench to sit on, which was wonderful! Bring your bathing suits.
Upon arrival, Suz spent some time showing us the house, including some dog gates, as we were heading for a dinner that evening. We left for our dinner and opted to leave the dog in the bathroom as we normally do when we travel with him. When we returned, she had left a note indicating that she heard him whining and thus gone to visit him, and she asked that we keep him with us for the rest of our stay (on the back of a printout of the house rules with that same request highlighted). We were a little surprised, as we could not imagine a scenario of employing dog gates while we were in the house and assumed she was telling us about them in the context of the dinner we planned to attend. As a result, we were forced to leave the dog in the car with the windows cracked when we went to (and rushed through) dinner the following night rather than with his bed and water in the house, which was a bummer.
Thus, it bears mentioning that the arrangement with the host living directly above and, as the above indicates, keeping an eye on us, left us feeling a bit "chaperoned" during the stay.
We found it a bit pricey for the offering but assume that was a result of the holiday weekend, as the billed rate is much lower than what we paid.
Nonetheless, I reiterate that we were very grateful to find this place and found Suz quite hospitable. This would be a fine place for a single couple or family to stay without a pet.
Suz was absolutely great hosting our group. The house is large and clean and the backyard leads you directly to the river. It was perfect for the six of us! Alot of fun and relaxation under the sun! Thank you again!
Suze is a very amiable host. We had rented the place for a race and didn't really spend too much time at the house to enjoy the local scenery. But the backyard is the river and should be good to hang out
Suz describes her place as "rustic". However, based on the price per night and the pictures, we were not expecting plywood floors inside and an unkempt lawn which had not been mowed for quite a while. The pictures of the yard show a tidy lawn and appear much wider than they are because they don't display the neighbor's property line which cuts the yard down the middle.
The pictures and description seem to imply 2 full bedrooms. However, in our opinion, it should be stated that the second bedroom is really a large closet that can only be accessed through the primary bedroom and does not have a door. We don't think this makes it "family friendly" as stated by Suz.
Finally, Suz mentions that the home is "designed for recreation in nature, for happy people activities" [sic]. What she doesn't mention is that both rooms are next to the area's most active highway (116) and that the flat has limited soundproofing. We were woken up multiple times by cars and then by Suz herself walking around on her upstairs plywood floor at 6am. We did have happy people activities in nature, but not as much while we were at home.
On the positive side, the bathroom was well furnished and hot water was plentiful.
My husband and I, and a few friends, came up to Guerneville for the Vineman 70.3, Suz's place was a PERFECT home base... she's on the race course (you can literally watch both the swim and the bike from her property) and she's only a 10 minute walk to the start line. Unlike other times we've gone up for a race, we could take our time in the morning and not have to stress about a 45 minute drive in heavy triathlon traffic.
Suz was wonderful even before we got in! She checked up with us on the road and made sure we knew the side streets to go through to avoid traffic. She greeted us when we got to the apartment and made sure we felt right at home. The apartment provided everything we needed for the weekend: tubes for hanging out at the river, coffee and cream, enough beds for 6, clean shower and hot water, and grill. The only thing missing was a stove, but we brought a camping stove and that worked out well.
Check out was one of the easiest ever. She was even kind enough to extend our stay and check out at our leisure. I highly highly recommend! Thanks Suz!!!
