Staying at Almost Home is like staying at a good friend's house. Everything is there, nothing is terribly precious, and you are welcomed as a guest and friend. It is for folks who like to feel at home, cook, lounge. Five min from airport.
Almost Home Guest House was designed for the independent traveller who wished all the amenities and comforts of home while away. After taking care of a friend’s B&B I knew what I wanted and didn’t want. For more of the story see “about your host”.
Almost Home Guest has three separate bedrooms, one with a queen bed (Pink Room), one with a double bed (Sage Room) and one with a single bed (Blue Room), a shared kitchen and shared bathroom, back deck (great for happy hour on a sunny day) and greenhouse (help yourself to produce and flowers). There is a guest computer and free Wi-Fi is available though in the north broadband is capped so I request no downloading of movies or live streaming music. Most everything else is ok.
The house is located in the comfortable small neighbourhood of Valleyview, about 5 minutes from the airport and downtown by car. Walking to the bus or fitness centre (with pool and hot tub) is under 5 minutes and walking downtown takes 30-45 minutes depending on pace.
Please note prices are for a maximum of two guests in one room.
See reviews on Trip Advisor. Member of B&B Canada and Yukon Bed and Breakfast Association. It's Almost Home! Everything is somewhere. Poke around for what you need.
Guests will have access to a full guest kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator, cooking and eating utensils. There are many spices and condiments for the use of guests as well. Use of living room, sitting room, greenhouse, front and back yard including BBQ. Back deck is especially welcoming for happy hour. Canada Games Centre (with pool and hot tub is 7 minute walk from house) and there are many walking trails in and around the house. Bus downtown is a 3 minute walk away.
I welcome guests, answer questions, encourage them to call me on my cell if they need anything or can't find anything if I am not around. Texting is also good. I live a very busy life and also have a country cabin so I am not always at the house, but I'm never too busy to lend a hand or make a suggestion.
Very comfortable small neighbourhood with good views and good walking trails and a community greenhouse. Close to airport and downtown and to the Canada Games Centre. YET, it feels a little bit like the country with a back lane and lots of green.
Public transit is a three minute walk. Walking downtown takes about 40 minutes at a brisk pace. Be aware that Whitehorse buses do not run late into the evening. A taxi from downtown - well - likely under $15.
There are LOTS of festivals in Whitehorse. Check out the Department of Tourism website. Also, lots of whitewater rafting, canoeing and even agriculture tourism. I host a bunch of interviews with gardeners on gardening practices north of 60: the curious gardener ca
We enjoyed our stay at Almost Home very much. Arlin was extremely kind to collect us from the airport at midnight and we were ever so grateful for that after our five flights from Hobart Tasmania. Almost Home is just that - home away from home. The kitchen facilities were fantastic and the beds were most comfortable. Arlin is very welcoming and we loved having wireless access too. Many thanks.
It does feel like 'home' when you stay there. It's easy to feel comfortable in Arlin's place, and it's located in a very nice area of Whitehorse that's conveniently located close to the airport (for newcomers like me who doesn't know Whitehorse well this is good).
I really enjoy my stay at Almost Home. Arlin was fantastic! I had never been to Whitehorse and had a lot of questions for her. She was patient with all my questions/requests and provided great recommendations from where to get a rental car to which art gallery to visit. The place is clean, organized, and beautifully decorated. I would stay with Arlin again next time. :)
