About this listing
For 19 guest reviews see Sage Room listing. Many positive guest reviews. Almost Home is a guest house. This room has a queen bed and shared bathroom. Free wifi, shared kitchen, lovely atmosphere. Nice back deck. Breakfast included.
Very comfortable small neighbourhood with good views and good walking trails and a community greenhouse. Close to airport and downtown and to the Canada Games Centre. YET, it feels a little bit like the country with a back lane and lots of green.
Public transit is a three minute walk. Walking downtown takes about 40 minutes at a brisk pace. Be aware that Whitehorse buses do not run late into the evening. A taxi from downtown - well - likely under $15.
I expect people to be thoughtful of other guests, especially with noise. If cooking, I expect folks to clean up after themselves and load the dishwasher and wipe the counters. Help keep the fridge tidy. Empty the garbage if I'm not around. Recycle and compost according to the house systems. Remember that the bathroom is shared so have some attention to cleanliness. If guests stay for a prolonged period, I do minimal cleaning until after they leave. If there is more than one guest I am usually in daily. Generally Artful Lodgers are just extremely considerate and if ever there should be a leak or a plumbing problem, they would put a pot under it and call me immediately so as to address situations as soon as possible!! Artful Lodgers also sweep the floor if they are there for a bit longer and leave me notes if anything is broken so I can be attentive to ensuring that it is all cleaned up. :-)
I had a great week in Whitehorse and the weather cooperated. I walked most everywhere and Two Mile Hill felt longer on the return trip each day.
Arlin's Bed and Breakfast was welcoming both in the home and from the guests within.
“Very comfortable, true place to be 'at home' while away!”
My husband and I felt very 'at home' in this well-appointed accommodation. We stayed downstairs which was roomy but cosy with our own bath, seating area and access to laundry. Arlin was very accommodating and let us bring our 5-year old grandson over to have a meal and sleepover and watch a movie (also a dvd player downstairs). The kitchen was well stocked with lots to help out with cooking and breakfast things ready and ample. The sunroom was lovely to sit and relax with a book or vintage magazine.
We were x-country skiing so we really appreciated being able to walk to Mt McIntyre Nordic Centre. We would definitely go again!
A couple of friends and I decided to go to Whitehorse for 5 days and staying at Almost Home was one of the best decisions we made for this trip. Arlin is an incredible host, who tries to provide any help and advice that is needed. The listing is lovely and a pleasure to stay at. The basement -- which was occupied by the three of us -- left us enough privacy while we are always welcomed to hang around in the kitchen and the living room. Not too far away from downtown or the airport. It was just perfect.
Arlin kept in contact with our booking, and helped us when we had trouble finding the house in snowy Yukon night. She set us up with all the info we needed and greeted us even tho it was late. Her house is lovely and cozy and full of neat artwork and momento's.
Arlin is a super nice host and her house is very cozy and comfortable:) everything is well-organized and prepared! u could find everything u need in her house. such a pleasant living there!
The day we came there Arlin was sick:( but still came to the house to welcome us and introduce for us!
After leaving, we forgot something at Arlin's place and we even didn't figure by ourselves ... Arlin contacted me immediately and put them into envelope at the same place! really appreciate!!
Had a great experience there and also with the other guests, Allen, Tracy, So Anne and Joey. Unforgettable!:)
I am a long-time Yukoner who lives in one of the communities. This was such an improvement over staying at a hotel that I wish I'd thought about it/discovered Almost Home years ago. The house was just as described and it was a pleasure to deal with Arlin. I truly felt at home and found it very relaxing. Nice neighbourhood and good location. I highly recommend a stay at Almost Home, short or long-term.
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

About the Host, Arlin
When my son moved away from home and I married I was too attached to my home to sell it and so I turned it into a Guest House/B&B. Whenever I travel I love it when I can stay at a good friend’s house – especially if they are away! Then I can cook and move through life much as I do at home. And so I created Almost Home. My friend Meshell came up with “for the Artful Lodger”. Mostly it is artful lodgers who find me.
If you were to do a search on me you’d find lots of links to my life in theatre and film. I teach acting as a sessional instructor at the local college, ran a theatre company for 17 years and created an event Burning Away the Winter Blues that is still happens every year around the spring equinox. There is a short video on YouTube or search the title of the event. I am the woman calling “Blues to burn away”. Recently I directed a play on substance abuse that toured the Yukon and I have directed two short films. You can see them if you want when you come!
My son is now a young man and off on his life adventures. My fantastic husband and I have a second house in the country so – well – you’ll be like an old friend visiting another old friend – who isn’t often home.
The Yukon and Whitehorse are fun. Book early in the summer thought. With bicycle relay races and canoe races and music festivals and international sports events it is BUSY. There is always live music somewhere and the arts scene is so vibrant it should have a color named after it.
