Description

The Space

Please look at my FULL profile for a listing of all of my places. Hermann, stop stealing my description.

We used to live in Manhattan, and now we make Union City our home. Why? Larger apartments, as fast or faster to get into the city (faster than traveling on the express train from Harlem), and a great neighborhood vibe.

Benefits:
* Real home with a yard, a grill, a TV and a fully equipped kitchen.
* Fast dependable wifi
* Private keypad code for you only, no keys to lose
* 24/7 super easy access to Manhattan, buses go every 2 min, $3 per trip
* Walk home from bus or walk in neighborhood safely, very low crime area
* Supermarket, cafe con leche, fresh bread, restaurants, city skyline view all in walking distance.
* Real beds for six people, air beds for extras
* Baby grand piano, if you play

We hope that you'll come stay with us and discover for yourself how crazy it is to be in a different state, but yet so close that it takes you only 15 minutes to get into Times Square.

Additional Details:
This 100 year old brownstone has three bedrooms a full bath and a half bath downstairs, a huge open concept kitchen/dining/living room, back yard and baby grand piano! This house used to be part of an embroidery factory - Union City used to be the Embroidery Capital of the world. Lots of German and Swiss history here.

FOR FAMILIES: Babies and kids are considered guests and are to be included in the guest count.

We have three queen beds in the house, and we can provide you with air beds for additional guests. The couch in the living room should not be used as a sleeping place please.

ABOUT PAYMENT:
Many ask about the price and extra fees and how to pay. When you put in the dates and number of people you will get our total cost. There are no taxes on top of this, but AirBnB adds their fee. It varies between 6-12% on top of our price.

All the payments are safely made with credit card to AirBnB when booking. They hold the money until the day you check in and will then transfer it to us.

Bookings with us are done with the "strict" cancellation policy and all cancellations should be done through AirBnB. This being said, if we manage to re-rent the place the nights you have canceled we can give a bigger refund to you than what the strict cancellation policy dictates. The earlier you cancel the bigger the chance that we will find other guests.

To confirm that you have read the entire description, please include the secret word "rockefeller" in your inquiry to me.

Guest Access

TV, wifi, full kitchen, baby grand piano, back yard, parking permit if needed (please let me know in advance).

Interaction with Guests

This is a private listing so you will be on your own but we will greet you and be available to assist you during your stay! I love showing people around, so let me know if you want to explore together. I live only a few blocks away in another of our listings.

The Neighborhood

* Located in Union City, NJ, a short direct bus ride to Times Square area and all sightseeing attractions.
* Five blocks from gorgeous Manhattan views (along Hudson River)
* Best 'cafe con leche' in town on corner. You'll wonder why you spend so much at Starbucks!
* Buses to Manhattan/Times Square run every minute during day, and every 4 minutes at night. Buses run all night.
* Great grocery and wine/liquor stores in the neighborhood including one right on the corner which is open until 11pm
* Very safe neighborhood, lots of great restaurants and bakeries but also very quiet at night.

Getting Around

Super easy buses that run 24/7 all night. Fare is $3 and you catch the bus in front of the New York Times Building on 8th Ave. You can also take NJ Transit #123, or 154, 159 - too many options to list!

ABOUT PARKING:
Being an urban area, parking is tight. We will provide a visitor pass so you have the same privilege as residents. Please note, that you must not forget to return this pass, otherwise we will need to charge you $35.00. For those who are not familiar with the parking system in the US, you must adhere to the parking rules - ie NO parking in fire zones / handicapped zones; sweep days; parking meters need to be adhered to and if you get a ticket, do not assume that you will not get another one if you don't move your car.
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
About Transportation: I have received many questions from people who don't believe it possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation:
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

1. House is 5 minutes (6 blocks) from the bus stop.
2. The bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will step to the bus stop and a bus will be there.
3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out. No joke.
4-The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, and $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal
5. You won't find these buses timetable or route on the internet, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan.

* City bus runs every 12 minutes to Hoboken, home of the Cake Boss and every 20 minutes (during commute hours) into Manhattan
* Easy city bus access to Jersey Garden Outlet Mall, much closer and as good as Woodbury Commons

Other Things to Note

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) BrickHouse

Q: How will I get the keys?

A: No keys! Just a four digit door code, specific to your booking. The door code will be active from 4pm on your check-in day until 11am on your check out day.

Q: Is it near the subway?
A: We are across the river from midtown, but there is no subway access (yet). Instead, we commute by the super awesome “chicken buses" or private jitney buses, that run every 5 minutes, all day and all night. As in 24/7 access. The cost is $3 per trip and I'll send you detailed info once you've booked.

Q: Is the neighborhood safe?
A:Union City is a very comfortable and easy place to be in. There are tons of families, professionals, apartments, private houses and the streets are well lit. You can walk home at any time of the night and not be bothered.

Q: Do I need to bring towels, a hair dryer, or linens?
A: Nope! I provide all these things. Same with basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, hand soap

Q: Can my friend sleep on the sofa?
A: I'm very particular about the guest count. You may only have the number of guests stay that you booked for. What if there is an emergency and we need to evacuate the building? Don't you want me to know how many people are there? Please communicate with me if you have a last minute friend want to stay with you.

Q: What's my total booking price?
A: Hosts see a different screen then guests. You'll see the final price on the pre-approval, or you can check the final price yourself by entering your dates and the number of guests. The system will calculate the amount and show you the total (but it won't show me the final total as I don't see the service fee). figure should be present after you enter your dates.

Q: Does the house look the same as the photos?

A: Yes, the pictures were taken by the official airbnb photographer. I may change around the linens or move some cushions around, but it looks like the pictures. Actually, this is a new dining room table, we thought it was better to have a larger table.

One last thing: Because you read this entire listing to the end, you get bonus points for your ability to follow directions. To redeem them (for increased chance of booking!) just include the phrase “I read the FAQs!" at the top of your message.

Grab a delicious hero sandwich from La Bella Salumeria or roast chicken to go from Kikiriki. Lots to explore around here.
