About this listing
Private 2 level 3 bdrm/2bath house, 24/7 easy access to Times Sq, Empire State Bldg, Top of the Rock, Central Park, midtown, etc. Great for families or groups of friends. Comfort of a *real* home with benefit of 24/7 ease of travel to Manhattan.
Please look at my FULL profile for a listing of all of my places.
We used to live in Manhattan, and now we make Union City our home. Why? Larger apartments, as fast or faster to get into the city (faster than traveling on the express train from Harlem), and a great neighborhood vibe.
* Real home with a yard, a grill, a TV and a fully equipped kitchen.
* Fast dependable wifi
* Private keypad code for you only, no keys to lose
* 24/7 super easy access to Manhattan, buses go every 2 min, $3 per trip
* Walk home from bus or walk in neighborhood safely, very low crime area
* Supermarket, cafe con leche, fresh bread, restaurants, city skyline view all in walking distance.
* Real beds for six people, air beds for extras
* Baby grand piano, if you play
We hope that you'll come stay with us and discover for yourself how crazy it is to be in a different state, but yet so close that it takes you only 15 minutes to get into Times Square.
This 100 year old brownstone has three bedrooms a full bath and a half bath downstairs, a huge open concept kitchen/dining/living room, back yard and baby grand piano! This house used to be part of an embroidery factory - Union City used to be the Embroidery Capital of the world. Lots of German and Swiss history here.
FOR FAMILIES: Babies and kids are considered guests and are to be included in the guest count.
We have three queen beds in the house, and we can provide you with air beds for additional guests. The couch in the living room should not be used as a sleeping place please.
Many ask about the price and extra fees and how to pay. When you put in the dates and number of people you will get our total cost. There are no taxes on top of this, but AirBnB adds their fee. It varies between 6-12% on top of our price.
All the payments are safely made with credit card to AirBnB when booking. They hold the money until the day you check in and will then transfer it to us.
Bookings with us are done with the "strict" cancellation policy and all cancellations should be done through AirBnB. This being said, if we manage to re-rent the place the nights you have canceled we can give a bigger refund to you than what the strict cancellation policy dictates. The earlier you cancel the bigger the chance that we will find other guests.
To confirm that you have read the entire description, please include the secret word "rockefeller" in your inquiry to me.
TV, wifi, full kitchen, baby grand piano, back yard, parking permit if needed (please let me know in advance).
Interaction with Guests
This is a private listing so you will be on your own but we will greet you and be available to assist you during your stay! I love showing people around, so let me know if you want to explore together. I live only a few blocks away in another of our listings.
* Located in Union City, NJ, a very short direct bus ride to Times Square area and all sightseeing attractions.
* Five blocks from gorgeous Manhattan views (along Hudson River)
* Best 'cafe con leche' in town on corner. You'll wonder why you spend so much at Starbucks!
* Buses to Manhattan/Times Square run every minute during day, and every 4 minutes at night. Buses run all night.
* Great grocery and wine/liquor stores in the neighborhood including one right on the corner which is open until 11pm
* Very safe neighborhood, lots of great restaurants and bakeries but also very quiet at night.
Super easy buses that run 24/7 all night. Fare is $3 and you catch the bus in front of the New York Times Building on 8th Ave. You can also take NJ Transit #123, or 154, 159 - too many options to list!
About Transportation: I have received many questions from people who don't believe it possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation:
1. House is 5 minutes (6 blocks) from the bus stop.
2. The bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will step to the bus stop and a bus will be there.
3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out. No joke.
4-The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, and $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal
5. You won't find these buses timetable or route on the internet, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan.
* City bus runs every 12 minutes to Hoboken, home of the Cake Boss and every 20 minutes (during commute hours) into Manhattan
* Easy city bus access to Jersey Garden Outlet Mall, much closer and as good as Woodbury Commons
Other Things to Note
Great, reliable laundry drop off services one block away. Drop off dirty clothes on your way into the city and pick them up when you return. They open late!
Grab a delicious hero sandwich from La Bella Salumeria or roast chicken to go from Kikiriki. Lots to explore around here.
Make sure you check my Guidebook for more info.
All guests - including children, must be included in guest count.
Only registered/reserved guests please!
The house is in a residential area, so no noise after 11pm or before 6am.
Please wear house shoes inside
Please put your garbage bags into the bins out front
No smoking inside, cost of removing smoke smell from furnishings will come out of damage deposit.
Feel free to grill or hang out in yard, but please only until 11pm, the sound carries and we don't want to bother our neighbors

From Dec 27, 2015 - Jan 02, 2016 the minimum stay is 5 nights.
Prior to arrival, every contact to our host was answered very fast, within a few hours. The provided information about the house, the neighbouhood and the bus connection to Manhatten helped us to plan our visit. After a long ride we arrived at "She's a Brick House" and found everything as described. We were even contacted at the day of arrival and felt very welcome. The house was clean and in perfect condition. the handover at arrival and departure was very easy. We considered ourselves very lucky to be able to stay with our family of four in this spacious house and can absolutely recommend it.
Thank you very much!
Tolle Wohnung! Lage ist gut erreichbar mit Bus von NY
Es lohnt sich mal zu Fuss zum Hafen zu laufen. Dort hat es links vom Steg (Fähre) ein Resti mit View auf NY
Our trip to New York was a very important and special one, and staying at Maria's place just made it that much more special. She and her husband(whom we met upon check in) were extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs. Every time we had a question Maria responded quickly and kindly. The house itself is absolutely gorgeous and very spacious. After a long day in the city it was so nice to come home and relax in this beautiful home away from home.
The house feels so welcoming and comfortable as soon as you walk in. It's incredibly clean, all the beds and couches are comfortable and there is plenty of space in each of the rooms for your luggage and clothing, etc.
We used the "chicken bus" and it is as every bit as easy and quick as Maria states in her info. We also used the bigger city bus and that too was simple and easy. There were plenty of great food places to enjoy near the house and we wish we had enough time to have visited them all!
I definitely recommend Maria as a host, and we would love to stay at one of her places again! Thank you again Maria for a wonderful experience for our first time in the city!
My family of six and I just returned from our trip from New York, and had a very pleasant experience staying at Maria's beautiful brick house. Maria met us upon arrival, and had kindly accommodated some of our requests to have some additional conveniences available for our little niece.
The roomy ground floor had more than enough space to accommodate all of us after our long days exploring the city, and the beds were clean, warm and very comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet, we were not bothered by any noise during our stay, and there are several options close by for a quick bite to eat.
More dining options are of course available in the city, the bus stop for the Times Square service is a short walk away, and we never had to wait more than a minute for the bus to arrive. During rush hour, this is a 20-25 minute journey through the tunnel, and 10-15 minutes at quieter times. For large groups, I couldn't imagine a better or more convenient option for staying a stone's throw from Manhattan.
We'd happily consider booking with Maria again when we make a return trip.
Thank you for opening the door to your home for us!

Maria is an excellent host. I had a great time at her place and is very well located, since you have the bus stop 10 mins walk from the house at only $3, very handy to get to NY and the city center.
The house is in perfect condition, very warm and cosy, exactly like in the pics.
She was very helpful and proactive everytime I needed something, and always available. She also recommended me places to eat and have a nice coffee, always in a very friendly manner that made our stay to feel like at home.
I would highly recomment her place and the area is full of supermakets, reataurants and is well connected!

About the Host, Maria
We have a number of listings, so look for me online at superhostnyc. Each of our listings has very easy access into Times Square - we are big advocates of our local bus service which we call the "chicken bus". Buses run every 5 min, 24/7 to Times Square. Take a look at our guest reviews to see what travelers say about getting in and out of NYC. We are not agents, my husband, Jay and I take care of guests full time!
We are Canadians living in the US, and are well traveled ourselves and know how important a good nights sleep is while you're away.
We will make sure that you are comfortable here.
