Very saddened by this review.
I shouldn't have accepted this group, made a mistake. Ian indicated they would come with 4 adults + 3 teenage children - which is already over capacity (as we only have space for 3 small children). However, in his initial message asking if we would accept him, he wrote:
"We are responsible and clean, and you can relax that we will take care of your house for the two days we are there. "
Which is why I accepted him and said that one of their teenagers could sleep on the couch.
Upon arrival however, they appeared to be with 8 (!!) people - 5 adults and 3 big teenagers. Strangely only Ian got out of the car for an introduction, the rest stayed in the car until our host Sandra was gone.
I didn't know about all this yet (we were on holiday elsewhere ourselves) - and just sent him a message I asked him if everything was OK when he arrived. This was his reply - which he sent only on the day he was leaving on August 3 (after their 2 nights stay):
"Everything was great Claire, thank you very much.
Great house and Sandra was very helpful.
Only after sending this message, he read my earlier mail asking what had happened (8 people instead of 7; why they had left the windows and doors open on a day they went to visit Amsterdam - not on the day he left, what he is referring to in his comments), he wrote the following message:
"I don't have time right now to look at the messages but I'm sure I told you 8 people”…
Follows a rant, ending with:
"We can leave it like this or you can criticize us more and I'll leave a bad review.”
I indeed left it like this - didn’t want to spend any more bad energy on it. Even though they left the house in a mess with laundry all over the place (they didn't want to pay for the cleaning as they said they would leave the house in the same good state they found it), and they didn't water the plants as specifically asked, nothing really horrific had happened.
All our other guests we had this summer were simply amazing - so it was for us overall a good experience having had AirBnB guests for the first time. Just this one hiccup :-(
