Experience this beautiful old Queenslander with it's charm and character. In the heart of Cairns 200m from a large shopping centre, the railway station and buses. Just several blocks from the Esplanade and the Reef Terminal. More than just 2 guests? Then check my other listings (click on my profile photo) as I do have another room available but only have one party stay at a a time. Your stay will be more than just a bed, it will be a tropical experience.

The space

My home is a 110 year old Queenslander is being restored to it's grand beauty. That's the thing about old Queenslanders, there is always something to work on. If you would like your stay in Cairns to be a sample of authentic local living then this is the place for you. Traditional Queenslanders are open and airy. Wide verandahs surround the house and are built in with classic timber louvres. When they are open it really brings outside inside, however the favourite spot is usually on the deck.

Guest access

You have access to all the house and as your host I will make your stay as comfortable as possible. You will have access to the front (closed-in) verandah, the dining room, lounge and back deck. There is one bedroom with 2 single beds and a wardrobe. There is one bathroom. The kitchen is open for you to use at any time of the day. The laundry is under the house, again in less-than-princess conditions, but there is a washing machine and dryer for your use. The main computer in the house is available for your use and wireless wi-fi is limited but generally ample for travellers.

Interaction with guests

Most guests love breakfast on the deck. It saves lots of shopping for basics and is appreciated before a big day of adventure so I'm happy to include it. I'll even take you on an early morning walk if you aren't needing to race off to the reef or to catch a train to Kuranda. An idea of sights to see and things to do? If you need to discuss that prior to arriving then I can tell you the spots that the agents won't. My work takes me out of the house and my hours are somewhat unpredictable so you may find yourself getting home before I do sometimes.

Other things to note

The house is high-set with 10 steps to the top. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned.
My home has seen many years but is always very clean. Both bathroom kitchen are simple but functional. Nevertheless, it will be your home away from home and I strive to have you feel comfortable.

Nikola's home provides the old charm of a Queenslander, positioned for walking in a very central location to downtown/restaurants/shopping/waterfront, and she spoils you with her sincere kindness and exceptional warm hospitality. You will feel comfortable with your accommodations and this "super host" will try to assist in any way to make your stay enjoyable and memorable.

Nikola was a phenomenal host! She picked my brother and I up from the airport and showed us around town before we got to her house. The room is very spacious with comfy beds and a wardrobe. Nikola was extremely hospitable and helpful with everything related to our stay. We would absolutely stay again!

Nikolas place was so comfortable we felt right at home. Nikola is the best!! We were picked up at the airport, had a delicious breakfast made for us,and even a treatment for headache pain! I highly recommend staying with Nikola, you won't regret it. She gives great advice on what to do in the area, and is so conveniently close to the train station and bus stops. CBD is not a far walk. Plus her dog Coco is adorable. We wish we could have stayed longer!

I was lucky enough to find this Nikola's wonderful bnb while traveling with my Mom on my first trip to Cairns. To start off our particular flight schedule and her work hours allowed her to pick us up from the airport, which was great. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable and I really like the feel of this older heritage building with a beautiful lush garden out back. We really enjoyed healthy breakfasts of fresh fruit, yogurt and nuts with Nikola each morning and getting welcome travel advice from her. As a natural path Nikola also had some health advice for my Mom who had come down with a cold while in Sydney. We visited in May and with an open air place (shutter instead of windows with screen) we were amazed there wasn't a single bug to be seen as she obviously does an amazing job treating the home for bugs. It might be a different story in the middle of the summer I don't know, but visitors should be aware of this fact I guess. Like I said though, definitely a non issue for us. There was a bit of Friday night noise from a neighbor but nothing too crazy. If you want a sterile hotel room where you are treated like the number on your door you should look elsewhere. However if you want a nice clean and comfortable place where you are treated like a member of Nilola's extended family then look no further. We really enjoyed our stay and I would definitely look to staying at her place again next time I'm in Cairns.

Nikola is the best host you could ask for, she makes you feel like you are staying with an old friend or favorite family member. She has a lovely home. It is an older Queenslander, but you can see that she takes great pride in her home! It was very clean and has everything you need! It is about 15 minute walk to the reef terminal or a cheap cab, but she was so helpful she gave us rides when she was able to! She as great recommendations for all the day trips you will probably be planning. We had a lot of early mornings and a lot of nights just staying in and having great chats on the lovely back porch with Nikola. I would stay with Nikola over and over again if I ever go back to Cairns. Another note, a lot of your daytrip buses will pick you up directly at home just FYI!

If you are away from home, there is no better place to be than Nikola's. After she picked us at the airport, Nikola took the time to find out about our plans and expectations during our stay in Cairns and helped us finalize the plan to better suit our needs. We were able to benefit from her knowledge of the area. Nikola prepared a wonderful, delicious breakfast for us every day. Nikola is a qualified naturopath and uses the Bowen therapy and the Emmett technique together to help muscle relaxation. Nikola treated both my sister and I, at home, and it was wonderful for our akin bodies. Nikola drove us back to the airport and hugged us farewell. All good things come to an end...

I am a happy character, open to whatever comes my way.
Every morning I rise to take the dog for a walk, I like a round of gentle exercise and peaceful breakfast, often shared with my Airbnb guests.
I am a 5th generation Australian. I grew up in Victoria, traveled lots and then Cairns became my home. I have been here for over 20 years.
Being a traveller, I appreciate the importance of having a home when away from home. My house is your home whilst you are here with me.
