About This Listing
Welcome to this charming, private cabin that I call "The Caravan".
(If you like this, you may also like my other listings: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/397290 the Cottage, and the bigger Home with queen size bed https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1742586).
Have you ever heard of the term " Glamping" before? It is glamor camping.
That is pretty much what this caravan is.
This is a place for guests whose comfort zone allows for the reality of the "Air Head" composting toilet.
It also is a space that only the physically fit should book, since there is a steep ladder leading to the sleeping loft.
It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach,"Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking.
The caravan is a cozy light- filled and airy space with its high ceiling and many windows and a skylight.
The sleeping loft has an opening window and the skylight for a more spacious feel, as well as a comfy double size foam pad and futon mattress bed on a futon frame.
The galley kitchen is equipped with an under the counter fridge, a toaster oven, a hot plate, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments.
The unique trough bath tub and the easy to use boat composting toilet make up the bathroom.
All linens are provided (towels and sheets).
You may lounge on the inviting window bench seat to take in the open forest gully view, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long- due letters on your computer.
However, I was made aware that the WiFi is spotty, so I put in a land line that you may connect to. The 15' yellow cord, which is located under the table with the stereo, will allow you to take the computer onto the porch via the window.
Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds.
Please make sure to read the house rules and manual.
Please leave the space as you found it. Thank you!
And there is no space for more than two people.
No smoking, and I mean: NO SMOKING ON THE WHOLE PROPERTY!!! I feel strong about that!
No open flames please. That means no smoking and no candles. Thank you!
And PLEASE: do not ask me if your pet may stay here with you-as I already mentioned that there are no pets allowed! Thank you!
Mandeja has set up a wonderful home away from home. A perfect amount of space for two on a quiet weekend away. The house is wonderful and is stocked with most things you could need. The house is in a good location a quick trip to Langley and to Ebey's landing. Serene garden porch and lots of birds - wonderful.
We enjoyed very much our stay in the cabin. It is an amazing experience to take breakfast in the middle of the forrest and only hear the sounds of the birds. The place is rustic but very cosy, apart from the toilets in the kitchen. We would love to come back, but this time with a car to be able to enjoy the surroundings as well!
Mandeja's cabin was truly wonderful. It's rustic qualities were my favorite things about it -- the composting toilet, the little washtub shower, the loft bed (which was incredibly comfortable). And it was an excellent location from which to explore the rest of the island. Although I didn't meet Mandeja, we had a couple conversations, and she couldn't have been more lovely and helpful. Highly recommended for those looking for a unique, restful experience.
Mandeja was attentive, yet respectful of my privacy. As an introvert, I really appreciated the self-sufficient approach to the cabin access and setup. She checked in via email to see if I needed anything which was appreciated. It was a very relaxing experience and I will definitely AirBnB with Mandeja again as well as recommend to friends and family.
We had a wonderful stay at the Caravan! I brought my 10 year old son and he loved it, as did I. Beautiful little outside porch, perfect size for remembering living small has a myriad of benefits. It was fun to talk with him about why a composting toilet is easier on the earth.
We will definitely be back!
"The Caravan" is that secret corner in your house that you wish you can forever sit in and read all your favorite books at. It's that nook where you want to tell all the people you love but hesitates because it's so special, they might not understand and worse, you might overdescribe and kill their excitement- which means they might not understand yours. But it's that spot in this world that you want to whisper all your secrets to, and kiss your softest kisses and hold your loved ones with that eye-shut embrace that you know you will remember in your future long drives.
We whole heartedly thank Mandeja for her hospitality and for letting us experience this corner of hers.

About the Host, Mandeja
I am a dynamic woman who has traveled the world and found a pearl named Whidbey Island. I tried to leave once, but to no avail: she beckoned me back into the beauty of her many beaches with views of many different mountains, a community one may only hope for, and the serenity of nature that fills me with solace not found anywhere else on the planet.
I am looking forward to sharing this special place with you!
