A charming home away from home on a quiet, private, street - minutes away (by car) from downtown Halifax.
Dining room, great natural light, seats 6, handmade furniture, artwork, plants, access to back patio, kitchen, and living room. Mango wood table and chairs, treat with care.
Great home, great part of the city. Our home is architecturally designed and has a total of three floors, with beautiful front and back gardens with a porch on the front and a back patio with BBQ and outdoor dining. It's ideally situated and very close to Halifax's Point Pleasant Park and is very close to downtown by foot or by car, and the highway to get to the airport or other parts of Nova Scotia, like beautiful ocean beaches and lakes.
On the main floor, you can enjoy the living room with super comfortable leather couches and art from around the world, a kitchen with an expresso machine (yes!), dining room, and back patio. Upstairs is one guest room, and downstairs is another. A full bathroom is available for guest use on the main level.
My house is very cyclist and sports friendly. I can hook you up for mountain or road bike rides, and I can connect you to the arts and theatre scene too. A solid network of great people, I have.
We have two cats, a huge Maine Coon (he's still a baby at 1.5 years, and LOVES to play with aluminium foil balls), and a more mature female cat, who is much more mellow in nature.
Ideally located, the house is close to Halifax's main multi-use trail (walking, jogging, biking, strolling). Bus stop is very close by, and there is room for parking. It's a quick ride (5 min by car) to the downtown core of Halifax (less than 2km), and is within walking distance to sports facilities, the universities, Point Pleasant Park, boutiques, health clinics, banks, pharmacies, and grocery store.
We live in the house and we keep it clean and orderly. We would like you to keep it that way too.
You'll have a private room, and would have to like our friendly, playful, but shy (he's still a "youth" and getting used to new people) cat (dog-cat), and more mature mellow chubby cat. You'll have access to have wireless internet.
GREAT deck / garden areas to enjoy as well.
We have two spaces to offer, both rooms have queen sized beds, one upstairs and one on the bottom floor (open space), but private.
Pricing for rooms: each room is full price ($65) as listed in the "price" field of the listing. An additional person for the queen bedroom is $20 extra as listed in the "additional person" field of the listing. If a third person is booked in the separate queen bedroom, it is the "full price," of $65 (not $20).
Example #1: Three people book and want both rooms. Two people stay in one room, one on another. For the room with two people, it is $65 + $20 (for the additional person). For the other queen room with the third person, it is $65.
Example #2: Two people book, but want separate rooms. It is full price for each room, or $65 per person.
Example #3: Two people book, but want to share a queen bedroom. It is full price for the room ($65) plus and $20 for the second person.
I speak English, French, and... :), and we really enjoy cross-cultural exchanges and experiences. Welcome to Urban Oasis.
Guests have access to wifi, and common living areas are shared (living room, dining room, kitchen). The furnace room is not an area of access.
Interaction with Guests
If you have any questions, we'll be pleased to help you get to know our fair city. We welcome conversation, but also respect your desire to "do your own thing." We're always around during guest stay, either during the day or the evening.
The neighbourhood is FANTASTIC: close to a lovely park (Point Pleasant Park), walking trails, universities, a sports facility, the bus stop, grocery, boutiques, historic and beautiful Public Gardens, and downtown Halifax, museums, and the waterfront. It is a quiet residential area in the heart of the city with beautiful trees, and lovely gardens.
The bus stop is only a few hundred meters away and will take you downtown. Parking is available on the street outside the house.
Hi, and thank you for your interest in the Urban Oasis.
Welcome to my home. We hope you like it as much as we do.
Please see below for some standard house rules so that you and we can enjoy our Urban Experience:
- Mutual respect of each other, home, contents, critter (the cat)
- Shoes off at door, we have hardwood and handmade rugs. You can enjoy their texture through socks and slippers!
-No pets please
- All doors locked before exiting the home
-3 guests maximum (queen size beds). Mature professionals and students preferred. See scenarios in description for pricing.
-When you leave a room, please turn off all the lights, fans, heaters, stereo, etc.
- Please leave home in the same (or better) shape as when you arrived. We don't charge a cleaning fee, and you'll find cleaning supplies under the bathroom sink and under the kitchen sink, broom, mop by fridge.
- Please strip bed linen when leaving (pillow case, fitted mattress sheet, top sheet).
- Bathroom: please use bathroom fan when taking a shower and please wipe down surfaces from excess water, so the next person doesn't have to enter a splashy birdbath ;)
- Kitchen: wash dishes and replace in cupboards. There's room in the fridge for your food too if you choose to eat in.
- No candles or other fire. Ensure all appliances are turned off (oven, stove). Please unplug toaster and coffee machine after use.
-It's a green house: so garbage goes in garbage (under sink in kitchen and bins in each bedroom). Outside the side door you'll find a plastic blue bin with two bags: paper in one (including newspaper, magazines, receipts, cardboard, milk cartons), and plastic, metal, and glass all together in another bag. Compost: all left-over food (incl. meat) goes in big green bin outside the side door.
-Please be mindful of my neighbours. We have fantastic neighbours that like me, and we'd like to keep it that way. Loud noise should be avoided in the evenings.
We request of all guests to sign a liability waiver, releasing me and the property owner from all potential future claims associated with your use of the property. We will email it to you. Please sign and bring signed copy when you arrive.
Basically, please keep clean. Respect. Trustworthy. Friendly.
We hope you enjoy our Urban Oasis as much as we do. We look forward to meeting you.
Suzie and Richard are amazing hosts! Always open to your needs and the friendliest bunch in Halifax! I loved staying at their cozy home. Their two cats, Bookl and Louise are the cutest cats you could ever have. If you're a first timer in this city, I highly recommend staying with these folks!
Suzie & Richard's gracious home was a peaceful friendly place to return to after a long day, filled with art and collectibles and warmth. Convenient in the suburban South End near St Mary's and Dalhousie, and close enough to buses & downtown that even in iced-in winter I walked every day & left the car, which they very kindly gave up one of their driveway spaces for. Room and bath are nicely appointed and afford a great deal of privacy. Living spaces are shared and very comfortable and bright. They have two adorable, frisky cats which I was very entertained by. Suzie and Richard offered tea, coffee, espressos, noshes, and also made great restaurant recommendations. Also know a lot of routes for walks and outdoor exercise (weather permitting).
Fantastic stay! Suzie and Richard were great hosts, but more importantly they are great people. Cant recommend enough. Guys, thanks for opening your home to me. Mike C. Hobart, Australia.
Suzie has a nice house in a very calm area, over the road from a golf course. It is about a 10 minute drive to downtown. Halifax seems to be an unrushed place and it was easy to get around.
The little bedroom is upstairs in the attic area and is one of several rooms on the top floor, of which one other is also sometimes rented.
The bathroom is shared (if someone else is there).
The only negative was the very smallness of our room. Once the 2 suitcases were in, there was hardly anywhere to stand, and the bed is also only a double bed that is jammed up against the wall.
Suzie was very personable and eager to help......we only met her briefly as she was away a lot of the time, leaving the house to us.
Suzie was very friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants and places to see.
Suzie is the consummate host! Her generosity, friendliness and warmth made our stay with her a memorable one. Our 2 nights at her home at the end of August felt like time spent at home...the location was great and the atmosphere was perfect; will recommend Suzie and her home to anyone planning on visiting Halifax. Thanks again Suzie for making our stay in beautiful Halifax complete!
This was a great place! I had been traveling for a week already, and I had the best sleep of all the two days I stayed in her beautiful home. I enjoyed my conversations with Suzie and hope I'll be able to visit again next time I'm in town.
I love meeting new people and I have a wide network of friends. Traveling is a must for me, and hopefully will add a few new destinations sooner than later. I'm an outdoorsy-dinner-party-concert-going-coffee-outing-hiking-sailing-skiing-swimming-adventuring kind of person. I love to laugh and have fun, but I like my quiet time too.
Respect is my mantra. I give it and I expect it. I'm clean (not optional) and I enjoy hosting people. I'd say time is a precious thing for me, as I'm always on the go. I'm a working professional, so when it's work time, I work hard, and when it's play time, I play hard!
I'll help you discover this wonderful city.
Live life large and travel. It nourishes the soul. :)
