My BNB was originally named after my beloved dachshund Earnest who passed away in early January 2013. He loved to meet new people and have them in our home and I strive to stay true to that memory by providing the best experience I can for my guests. Jasper is already proving to love meeting new people and will be helping me fulfill Earnest's memory as we host our guests from around the world.
Guest have full access to the apartment, including use of refrigerator and cooking in the kitchen if desired. There is a coffee machine set-up in the guest room for use whenever desired. Because the guest room is on the smaller side, I encourage guests to use the living room area to relax, watch tv, etc whenever they are back in the apartment.
I live in the apartment full-time with my dog Jasper. I tend to be home most evenings. I am happy to hang out and chat with guests as much as they like or give them more privacy if desired. I am very easy going and am happy to follow the guests lead.
The Lower East Side is a great neighborhood with a wide variety of people from all different walks of life. Within close proximity is a wealth of restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. My block is quieter, without as many bars or clubs which I prefer as it is possible to avoid the crowds on busy night and weekends. The neighborhood is very safe, with lots of people around and I have never had any problems in the over 14 years I have lived here. None of my guest have had any problems in the over 3 years that I have been hosting on Airbnb.
One of my favorite local sites is The Tenement Museum. An old apartment building that is now used for tours to show what life was like in this neighborhood in the early part of the last century. It is a great way to get some history on this neighborhood and compare that to what it is like today.
My apartment is located a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest subway/metro station. From that station it is easy to get to any part of the city, Brooklyn and Queens using the trains available at that station or with one easy connection to another train.
There is a lot of street parking nearby. I've only had a few guests with cars over the years but they have all had success finding a spot nearby without having to pay for parking.
There are many options for getting to my apartment from the three nearby airports. Once the booking is made and the guest sends me their arrival plans I provide detailed directions and maps to make it as easy as possible to travel into the city.
Great experience at David's LES apartment. I wasn't around much but felt welcomed when I returned "home" to his clean and well appointed place. The bed was comfy, wifi fast, and host(s) hospitable. The area is super: check out The Black Cat for cappuccino and a croissant, Essex Market for a unqiue shopping/dining experience and Tiny's Giant for a late night sandwich. I'd stay there again.
David and Jasper, thank you for being the perfect hosts. Your welcome and warmth made my NY experience of the lower east side complete. David's attention to detail like in room coffee machine and tips on things to do and ways to get around helped me feel just like a local. The area feels surprisingly safe and quiet for downtown. The funky bars on Rivington St were a wonderful way to finish a day out with only 500yards to travel home. Definitely check out the tenements museum - a brilliant insight to the history of the area. A wonderful start to my AirBNB experience all around. Thank you David and big hug for Jasper.
I loved staying at David's place. The bedroom is small but it has plenty of space because there is a little cupboard in which to hang clothes . It's close to the subway and lots of things are within walking distance. LOVED the coffee machine in the bedroom. Jasper is adorable. David was very helpful with directions and since we got into town very late (bus was cancelled due to weather) and had to go straight to a rehearsal dinner, he even dropped off the keys to the apt at the restaurant. by the end of four days there, I felt a little like I lived there which was wonderful for me. Thanks David!
My visit at the Dappled Dachshund was lovely. The space is exactly as described and David and Jasper were welcoming and friendly. David was so helpful with my myriad of questions about why it's like to live in the city. The lower east side is an awesome place to see NYC, with lots of restaurants, cafés and bars within walking distance. The subway entrance is just a quick few blocks from the apartment. I have no qualms recommending them to anyone looking for a cozy, quiet place to stay in manhattan. Thanks guys!
David and Jasper are great hosts! Very friendly and great with communication.
He was very attentive and helpful in making my trip a great one, offering to hold onto my belongings so I could roam unburdened before leaving town.
David had some great insights and recommended some nice restaurants and sights to see while I was in town and I was not disappointed.
The bundle of maps and guidebooks was helpful to peruse and the town guide magazine he picked up had a great slice of trendy and new spots to hit.
I had never been to the LES before and it was a really relaxed and safe neighborhood to stroll around in and easy to navigate.
The room and apartment was clean, warm and the bed super comfortable after a long day of travelling. Jasper is adorable and very loving right off the bat, eager to welcome every guest :)
The Dappled Dachshund (the place) is a convenient comfortable stay on the Lower Eastside. The DD (the dog) is very cute and friendly. David is a very kind and considerate host. I was especially happy about the fastidiously clean bathroom and good shower. Would happily stay here again.
David and Jasper were great! Super quaint and comfortable apartment and David and Jasper did a great job at making you feel like it was your home away from home. It was my first time
AirbnB-ing it and wont be the last. Never being to the LES part of New York, I was clueless and especially with a winter storm going on David was awesome with telling me the best routes on getting around. 5 stars all around! Thanks David and Jasper!
I had a great time staying at David's place. I unfortunately did not get to meet David since he was away during my stay but he made sure to answer all of my questions and have everything as ready as possible when I arrived. The apartment is really charming and cozy and in a great location. I would not hesitate to stay again!
David was a great host! The room was nice. The place was clean. There was delicious home made bread for breakfast. Couldn't ask for more.
I had a very pleasant and snowy 4 day stay at David's apartment. I hadn't been to NYC in years and didn't know if I'd made the right choice of neighborhoods, but LES ended up being a great place to crash. As a girl traveling alone I felt safe there. There were tons of great little hole in the wall bars and restaurants, and I usually came back to the neighborhood after my long sightseeing days and ate or had drinks nearby. So many other cool neighborhoods in walking distance too (or a cheap cab ride if it was too cold!) and the Essex Market right by the metro stop was great in the mornings.
The apartment itself was small but cozy. It was brutally cold outside and the apartment was toasty warm. Actually the guest room stayed pretty cool at night which I preferred, but David offered me a space heater if I wanted it.
Also, I appreciated David's communication before I arrived. He gave me excellent directions and I had no problems.
