Becoming an AirBnb host is one of the most rewarding parts of my life. It is my pleasure to welcome guests from around the world and help them enjoy New York City as much as possible while getting a glimpse of what living as a New Yorker is like.

My BNB was originally named after my beloved dachshund Earnest who passed away in early January 2013. He loved to meet new people and have them in our home and I strive to stay true to that memory by providing the best experience I can for my guests. Jasper is already proving to love meeting new people and will be helping me fulfill Earnest's memory as we host our guests from around the world.
Guest have full access to the apartment, including use of refrigerator and cooking in the kitchen if desired. There is a coffee machine set-up in the guest room for use whenever desired. Because the guest room is on the smaller side, I encourage guests to use the living room area to relax, watch tv, etc. whenever they are back in the apartment.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the apartment full-time with my dog Jasper. I tend to be home most evenings. I am happy to hang out and chat with guests as much as they like or give them more privacy if desired. I am very easy going and am happy to follow the guests lead.
The Lower East Side is a great neighborhood with a wide variety of people from all different walks of life. Within close proximity is a wealth of restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. My block is quieter, without as many bars or clubs which I prefer as it is possible to avoid the crowds on busy night and weekends. The neighborhood is very safe, with lots of people around and I have never had any problems in the over 14 years I have lived here. None of my guest have had any problems in the over 3 years that I have been hosting on Airbnb.
One of my favorite local sites is The Tenement Museum. An old apartment building that is now used for tours to show what life was like in this neighborhood in the early part of the last century. It is a great way to get some history on this neighborhood and compare that to what it is like today.
My apartment is located a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest subway/metro station. From that station it is easy to get to any part of the city, Brooklyn and Queens using the trains available at that station or with one easy connection to another train.
There is a lot of street parking nearby. I've only had a few guests with cars over the years but they have all had success finding a spot nearby without having to pay for parking.
There are many options for getting to my apartment from the three nearby airports. Once the booking is made and the guest sends me their arrival plans I provide detailed directions and maps to make it as easy as possible to travel into the city.
I'm very easy going but do have a few rules...
No smoking at all in the apartment.
No additional guests without prior notification.
Please be sure to properly lock the door when coming and going. (Should be obvious, but...)
You are welcome to use the kitchen, but please clean up afterwards.
Please help me recycle - I can show you where to put paper and bottles/cans/etc.
Lost keys will incur a $50 charge.
"The Dappled Dachshund" was the ideal lodging for my recent trip to New York. David is a kind, conscientious, and extremely accommodating host. In addition to providing all necessary amenities, he made excellent dining recommendations, shared interesting details about life in the dynamic East Village, and fashioned a warm and comfortable living environment. (Also, due to a delayed flight, I did not arrive until around 2:00 a.m., and he remained completely unflustered and inviting!) Jasper, of course, is an adorable companion, who made sure that all affairs were in order! I will definitely make arrangements with David and Jasper when I return to the city.
We had a very nice stay at davids apartment! He is a friendly host and Jasper is wonderful!
I really recommend to stay at this place.
Staying with David was a great experience. He was very welcoming! His place is in a great location and is very homely, along with Jasper his beloved dog.
David is very easy going...he is there if you need anything but also not obtrusive in any way.
The place is very clean, warm, quiet and the extras from the Kiehl's bathroom products to the basic breakfast all make David's a great choice to stay.
David was a great host for our first AirB&B experience; very obliging, welcoming and helpful but at the same time unobtrusive. It was my daughter's 21st birthday and he even went to the trouble of surprising her with cupcakes; so sweet! Jasper was a hoot; a real little character and certainly an entertainer! [And not a very spoiled puppy at all ;) ] The room was exactly as we imagined; a little on the small side but pretty much on par with hotel accommodation I've stayed at previously in NY. We were quite comfortable during our two week stay. David gave us lots of good suggestions for places to eat, shop etc and nothing we asked was too much trouble. The neighbourhood was very eclectic and a lot of fun to explore. It has lots of hidden gems with some great eateries and shopping bargains.
I'm David and I have lived in this apartment for over 15 years. I recently ended a 10+ year career working in the New York theatre. I am now a Program Administrator at a new company that teaches children how to build and create using real tools and materials.
I became an Airbnb host because when I travel to other countries I want the experience of living like a local and have stayed in people apartments for that purpose and to save on travel costs. I am pleased to offer that to travelers coming to New York and work very hard to make my guests stay as comfortable and easy as possible.
I also love food and cooking and can offer suggestions on restaurants you will enjoy in the city and provide homemade treats like banana bread for breakfast and ice cream for dessert whenever possible.
Thanks for reading and I hope I will have a chance to host you very soon!
