My BNB was originally named after my beloved dachshund Earnest who passed away in early January 2013. He loved to meet new people and have them in our home and I strive to stay true to that memory by providing the best experience I can for my guests. Jasper is already proving to love meeting new people and will be helping me fulfill Earnest's memory as we host our guests from around the world.
Guest have full access to the apartment, including use of refrigerator and cooking in the kitchen if desired. There is a coffee machine set-up in the guest room for use whenever desired. Because the guest room is on the smaller side, I encourage guests to use the living room area to relax, watch tv, etc. whenever they are back in the apartment.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the apartment full-time with my dog Jasper. I tend to be home most evenings. I am happy to hang out and chat with guests as much as they like or give them more privacy if desired. I am very easy going and am happy to follow the guests lead.
The Lower East Side is a great neighborhood with a wide variety of people from all different walks of life. Within close proximity is a wealth of restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. My block is quieter, without as many bars or clubs which I prefer as it is possible to avoid the crowds on busy night and weekends. The neighborhood is very safe, with lots of people around and I have never had any problems in the over 14 years I have lived here. None of my guest have had any problems in the over 3 years that I have been hosting on Airbnb.
One of my favorite local sites is The Tenement Museum. An old apartment building that is now used for tours to show what life was like in this neighborhood in the early part of the last century. It is a great way to get some history on this neighborhood and compare that to what it is like today.
My apartment is located a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest subway/metro station. From that station it is easy to get to any part of the city, Brooklyn and Queens using the trains available at that station or with one easy connection to another train.
There is a lot of street parking nearby. I've only had a few guests with cars over the years but they have all had success finding a spot nearby without having to pay for parking.
There are many options for getting to my apartment from the three nearby airports. Once the booking is made and the guest sends me their arrival plans I provide detailed directions and maps to make it as easy as possible to travel into the city.
I'm very easy going but do have a few rules...
No smoking at all in the apartment.
No additional guests without prior notification.
Please be sure to properly lock the door when coming and going. (Should be obvious, but...)
You are welcome to use the kitchen, but please clean up afterwards.
Please help me recycle - I can show you where to put paper and bottles/cans/etc.
Lost keys will incur a $50 charge.
David was relaxed and gave me space. Friendly host.
I love the location, close do the subway and some nice bars. You must try the Taqueria on Delancey/Essex Street
I would for sure recommend his place to anyone. Thanks David.
Nice place to stay in NY if you are out a whole day. Small bedroom with air condition but clean. Very friendly host were you can use the bathroom as much as you like. Jasper (
David & Jasper are great hosts, everything was cool and smooth. David even gave us tips where to go and what to see.
David was a great host and very welcoming. He was really nice when we arrived in the middle of the night and he had some breakfast foods provided for us. The listing was very accurate although we did not expect it to be that tight in the room, but we knew that that was normal for a NYC apartment. The neighborhood was really cool and the apartment was not too far away from the subway station. David's dog Jasper was also fun to play with and we had an overall good experience staying with David.
David and Jasper were very welcoming to us and gave specific directions from the airport to his place. When I say specific, I mean, down to which way to turn as we were walking out of the terminal or train station. He was willing to meet up with us at the Subway and travel the rest of the way with us....which we didn't end up having to do. Our room and his place were very clean and organized. He also wasn't daunted by our multiple suitcases but made room for them and accommodated us. The air conditioner was a welcome relief at the end of a hot NY day. If you're a dog lover, this is the place for you because Jasper is a joy and obviously loves playing host!
David could not have been more gracious and helpful. Jasper was equally welcoming and so very charming (he can shake a paw like a champ!). The location was great for museums and restaurants. Overall, the experience was great.
David was a wonderful host. He was out of town for half our visit, but kept in close contact to make sure we could get into the apartment. I'm a pretty light sleeper, but never heard David (or Jasper! what a cute little dog) come back to the apartment late. He must've walked and shut the doors so quietly. The apartment is a convenient distance from Delancy St subway. We took the F uptown and the J downtown. It's walking distance from Katz's deli and Russ and Daughters. The apartment itself is very tidy and clean. Loved using the Kiehl's soaps. David really did set up the apartment for guests. There's a coffee making area inside the bedroom and luggage stand. Napkins and silverware are all on the dining table for easy access. Great, cozy place to stay for a couple.
About the Host, David
I'm David and I have lived in this apartment for over 15 years. I recently ended a 10+ year career working in the New York theatre. I am now a Program Administrator at a new company that teaches children how to build and create using real tools and materials.
I became an Airbnb host because when I travel to other countries I want the experience of living like a local and have stayed in people apartments for that purpose and to save on travel costs. I am pleased to offer that to travelers coming to New York and work very hard to make my guests stay as comfortable and easy as possible.
I also love food and cooking and can offer suggestions on restaurants you will enjoy in the city and provide homemade treats like banana bread for breakfast and ice cream for dessert whenever possible.
Thanks for reading and I hope I will have a chance to host you very soon!
