My BNB was originally named after my beloved dachshund Earnest who passed away in early January 2013. He loved to meet new people and have them in our home and I strive to stay true to that memory by providing the best experience I can for my guests. Jasper is already proving to love meeting new people and will be helping me fulfill Earnest's memory as we host our guests from around the world.
Guest have full access to the apartment, including use of refrigerator and cooking in the kitchen if desired. There is a coffee machine set-up in the guest room for use whenever desired. Because the guest room is on the smaller side, I encourage guests to use the living room area to relax, watch tv, etc. whenever they are back in the apartment.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the apartment full-time with my dog Jasper. I tend to be home most evenings. I am happy to hang out and chat with guests as much as they like or give them more privacy if desired. I am very easy going and am happy to follow the guests lead.
The Lower East Side is a great neighborhood with a wide variety of people from all different walks of life. Within close proximity is a wealth of restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. My block is quieter, without as many bars or clubs which I prefer as it is possible to avoid the crowds on busy night and weekends. The neighborhood is very safe, with lots of people around and I have never had any problems in the over 14 years I have lived here. None of my guest have had any problems in the over 3 years that I have been hosting on Airbnb.
One of my favorite local sites is The Tenement Museum. An old apartment building that is now used for tours to show what life was like in this neighborhood in the early part of the last century. It is a great way to get some history on this neighborhood and compare that to what it is like today.
My apartment is located a 5-7 minute walk from the nearest subway/metro station. From that station it is easy to get to any part of the city, Brooklyn and Queens using the trains available at that station or with one easy connection to another train.
There is a lot of street parking nearby. I've only had a few guests with cars over the years but they have all had success finding a spot nearby without having to pay for parking.
There are many options for getting to my apartment from the three nearby airports. Once the booking is made and the guest sends me their arrival plans I provide detailed directions and maps to make it as easy as possible to travel into the city.
I'm very easy going but do have a few rules...
No smoking at all in the apartment.
No additional guests without prior notification.
Please be sure to properly lock the door when coming and going. (Should be obvious, but...)
You are welcome to use the kitchen, but please clean up afterwards.
Please help me recycle - I can show you where to put paper and bottles/cans/etc.
Lost keys will incur a $50 charge.
Really enjoyed our stay with David. The apartment is in a great location, giving access to the New York many tourists would never see.
David was a helpful host who replied quickly to our communications to him before and during the stay to give us advice or directions. The space had everything we needed and was as he had described. Thank you to David and Jasper for making us feel welcome in your place!
A very convenient place. Nice apartment and friendly host, David. We enjoyed staying in his apartment. Near to Subway, Grocery store. The description on the site is accurate.
David's place was the first stop of our six night stay in Manhattan. We enjoyed his dog Jasper & comfortable bed for three nights. David is a great host, my son & I were very comfortable.
David's apartment is in a great location in the lower east side. It's within walking distance to a ton of great restaurants, and close to a couple different subway lines. David gave us suggestions of places to go to, and was really accommodating for us having 3 adults. Plus, his dog is super friendly and cute!
My kids and I where very pleased to stay in Davids apartment. The apartment is located in a historic street, where many immigrants haved lived. Perfectly located with great cafés, restaurants, foodmarked, and speciel shops in the area. Can recommend a visit to Economy candy, the baked eggs at Marf café, Moules frites at Shillers, cupcakes at Sweet sugar sunshine. Subway is nearby and takes you to any direction. The apartment is small, but very cozy and we felt at home from the very start, and it got all that we needed. Jasper is such a lovely dog...we miss him and David is a very good and freindly host, helpful with information and easy to stay around. We will be very happy and pleased to stay there again. Best Luna, Oliver & Caroline
About the Host, David
I'm David and I have lived in this apartment for over 15 years. I recently ended a 10+ year career working in the New York theatre. I am now a Program Administrator at a new company that teaches children how to build and create using real tools and materials.
I became an Airbnb host because when I travel to other countries I want the experience of living like a local and have stayed in people apartments for that purpose and to save on travel costs. I am pleased to offer that to travelers coming to New York and work very hard to make my guests stay as comfortable and easy as possible.
I also love food and cooking and can offer suggestions on restaurants you will enjoy in the city and provide homemade treats like banana bread for breakfast and ice cream for dessert whenever possible.
Thanks for reading and I hope I will have a chance to host you very soon!
