This one of the first build brick houses, originating from the sixteenth century, is restaurated 14 years ago and now available for rent. This three storey building in located in the old heart of Amsterdam on the former "Nieuwe Zijds Achterburgwal", now Spuistraat. Big oak wooden beems which formed the structure of this and neighbouring house can be seen in the shop on the ground floor and the first floor of this apartment, The roof shows the pine beems, all brought up and cut by hand to create an original roof for this house. The house is semi luxury, luxury for being a fine example of one of the first brick houses in Amsterdam and being very central, not luxury, as the house was kept as simple as it was originally build, so no fancy kitchen and bathroom, but see for yourselve. The house sleeps 6 person maximum, two rooms with two double beds, which can act as doubles, one sofabed in the attick. Room in the front of the house could be a bit noisy, as life always goes on in this part of Amsterdam. The house is located on the border of one of the small Red Light Districts Amsterdam has, but you will not be bothered by that, it is a safe area in walking distance of the Central Station and Dam Square and close to all the public transport you would need to find your way in Amsterdam. Also long term rental possibilities or sale. Price is based on a 4 person occupancy, extra person € 40,-/night, maximum 6 adults, 4 beds, one sofabed.

The location was amazing! You're within a 5 minute walk to Central Station, Redlight District, Dam Square, and many other wonderful attractions! The house itself was very cozy and I would recommend this home to anyone!
We paid £1150 to stay in this two bedroom apartment for 4 nights. The host was eager to make additional money. We were charged £30 for checking in 15 minutes after the suggested time. When we accidentally forgot to return one of the keys on check out the host illogically insisted that the locks had to be changed at a further charge to us of £150. On top of withholding out £174 security deposit we received a series of aggressive emails demanding a further £200 in compensation including false accusations that we had been smoking in the apartment. The apartment was great, very unhappy with how the host manages it.
Kind of strange to leave a review like this. First of all, these people left the house in a mess, five garbage bags of mess had to be picked up all over the apartment, cigaret buds on the floor, rests of food on the kitchen counter top and in drawers, and on top of that, they took the key. They skipped the appointment for check-out, left before the apartmentmanager arrived, otherwise they would have been told to clean their own mess and return the keys. So I did not want to risk to have these people to get in the house ever again. € 30,- surcharge is taken after 8pm, was mentioned before. I had to have the locks changed, they did not even bother to react to my email ASKING for compensation of leaving the house in a mess and taking the key. Their only reaction was that leaving the house like that was normal to them, they paid for cleaning, so leaving the house like they found it, tidy, was not necesarry. Compensation had to be arranged through Airbnb. Last but not least, a copy of their first email after they left the apartment, I guess this will shows the contrast with this review:
I have accidentally kept a set of keys with me and I am at the airport heading to the US.
I am back in Amsterdam on 18 January so can return the keys then. I will pay the costs of cutting an extra set.
The house was awesome. I will leave a positive review.
We were 2 couples having a long weekend in amsterdam. We were looking for a cozy & homely place to stay.
Soooo... Let's start with the problematic features of the old townhouse: No Mirror (except for the face in the bathroom), the stairs was hard to "climb up" or "slide down" with our luggage.
Pretty small problems I must say...
specially when on the other hand you get a well equipped and a clean and comfortable place to sleep and eat.
The location is just amazing as the map will tell - could'nt expect better than that.
Arriving to the apartment from the airport is easiest as can be, also reaching places in amsterdam such as Dam square, Leidseplein, Vondelpark and any other place - SO EASY!
I must say, we had the most awesome time in Amsterdam, and without any doubt, The Old Townhouse had a key role in the pleasure of our vacation.
WOULD DEFINITELY RETURN TO THIS EXACT APARTMENT!!
Dries was very very helpful. Replied all my questions immediately and was very clear. We had a great holiday. Would reccomend to all users without hesitation.
Die Wohnung ist wie beschrieben, alles hat gut funktioniert, problemloser Check-in, top Lage, netter Kontakt. Würde ich weiterempfehlen.
Came with 4 friends for a weekend in late july - loved every moment of it! Was actually very happy it was disgusting weather the second day – it gave us a reason to fully appreciate and utilize the townhouse. Fantastic amenities, clean linens and shower, and awesome upper porch. Definitely not a place you should go with non-friends; the place is very "open" and should definitely be used with friendly people. Location could not have been better, basically in the downtown/centraal area, close to all the night action, while just a nice stroll to the main museum area. Food/Drink places all around us.
I'm never staying in a Hostel again after this experience!
The location was incredible, right in the heart of Amsterdam. The place was quite large and easily accommodated the 6 people that stayed there. As most places in Amsterdam the place did not have AC and the front room was extremely hot in the mornings. Nonetheless the place was exactly what we were looking for and if I travel to Amsterdam with a large group again I would stay here.
Central and spacious, the apartment had all what a group of 4 friends needs. The host was very responsive and pleasant.
My wife and i are just come back from 5 nights stay at Old Townhouse Spuistraat Centre with other 4 friends. The house it's realy nice and excellent location, only the cleaning could be a bit 'better. Dries and Rita were a good host and smootlhy, they were very helpful to giving us the availability to leave our luggage in storage after check-out time. I recommend everyone to stay at Dries' place.
Had a great stay at the Old Townhouse!
Arrived hoping to meet up with warmer weather in Amsterdam compared to cold old Sweden but found ourselves fooled when leaving a sunny Sweden for a cloudy colder Amsterdam... Also since the apartment had been empty prior to our arrival the temperature inside was a moderate 13 degrees (!), but Rita who greeted us cranked up the heat and we were warm in no time.
The place was really spectacular and I'd really could see it work as a great home. Though if living permanently I'd put in Scandinavian doubbleglased windows in the street facing bedroom because it somewhat felt as we were sleeping on the sidewalk (yes I read the previous reviews and the renter's note regarding the street facing bedroom but it was a little louder than what we'd anticipated). No problem for me who's a heavy sleeper but my partner did struggle a bit...
The beds were great, and Martin noted that the sofa bed in the attic was surprisingly comfortable as well.
As for location we felt it couldn't get much better, just a short walk from the central station and all the sites within good walking distance. The only thing that could make it better would be if it had canal views, but you'll get lots of that in Amsterdam anyway so we didn't miss that too much.
Thanks for letting us take a part of your piece of Amsterdam...
